Aftermath of this game has just got worse, Maynard got a hamstring tear so he’s out, Gordon and White are doubts now for Saturday too.

So that leaves us with Rose as our only striker, and all our right sided defenders injured.

Step up the youth team!

Still in shock after that shite.....

we don't have a midfield
we are not a top 3 side,
we brought on kids and lost
we probably wont have a senior player on the bench next game

Do Mansfield actually have any decent kids coming through? Can't say I'm aware of any academy players coming through since Radford came in? Is that fair, or have I just not been paying attention? You seem to do alright at bringing youngish players in from elsewhere and getting them to perform in the first team but can't recall any recent homegrown players?

The academy are the first do win their league 4 years in a row... For a league two club the set up is fantastic, its not far off category 2 or what ever the level is I'm not sure?... A few players have shown some real promise but fizzled out when it comes to first team.

Jordan Graham is a striker who could be decent in league two but hes done his ACL.
Jimmy Knowles who's only 17 is scoring for fun in the reserves and youth team and will soon be involved with the first team a lot more.
Alister Smith is getting some minutes here and there and looks bright.
Jason Law, a right back who played in the checkatrade looked really good.

Lots of good prospects, just not any stand out stars yet but they'll come. Just needs a manager that can afford to give them game time.

Cheers, will keep an eye out for them. Hang on though, our academy won that division last season I think? Or is this just a lie that all clubs tell their fans, hoping that nobody checks

The manager is pivotal though, you're right about that. We're really starting to see the benefits of Jolley's belief in the youths now but for years and years it was like you had to be 100% ready for the men's game or you had no chance at BP which is absurd as no kids are really ready.

Still waiting for the goods from the youth team SoC but you got to remember Radford had to start it all over again after he brought the club, like mentioned the facilities are top notch now and we are successful in the YT but it’s not translated to first team players....yet. Jordan Graham has a shot at it IMO.

Tom Naylor at Portsmouth was probably our last proper academy player to go on to better things.

Did you sack it off in your second year down in the abyss like a lot of teams do?

Cannot remember what year, probably because it’s due to funding being cut off I think.

The academy doesn’t cost the club a penny now thanks to the directors.

No our U18 did win the youth alliance league last season, Mansfield came 4th, they won it the 3 previous seasons though.

We pretty much had to the first season we went down, we nearly went out of business. Haslam left the club basically with nothing and parted the club from the ground.

The 3 “amigos” - perry Saunders and Middleton saved us from basically going under in that season - it was thoroughly horrific - going from being in the league with all its benefits to being in non-league was just unreal - literally the only saving grace is that we hoped that we’d be in a better state after Haslam had left.

What younger Mansfield fans forget who didn’t suffer or know the real details of him understand just how much better we are as a club both on and off the field as to what we were then.

I'm not convinced that we will reap any success yet with these youngsters. Are they talented enough to offset their lack of experience and play in the first team? I would argue that I haven't seen evidence of this yet. These types need to rack up a significant number of appearances to be effective. I thought Smith looked some way off the pace, for example. Can we afford to keep them on a FT contract and loan them out while they build up the necessary experience? It's the right thing to do but is it the most effective? I'm not so sure. Hopefully hard work will pay off and we'll get a few gems.

And therein lies the problem with having a significant wage budget for this level. Realistically, they aren't going to get that time while you're going out and buying established L1 players, etc. and the focus is so firmly set on promotion.

And one of these 'amigos' was allegedly a friend and puppet for Hasloan.

We were just lucky that given the shocking state we were in we’d have sold to anyone, thankfully for us they had our best interest at heart
