They did beat us in the fa cup 1st round replay while in the conference though

We were lucky to get a replay, we packed that little stand plus a few blocks in the main stand in the original tie and I think Gary Silk got a poxy last minute equaliser haha.

Winning 1-0 but it should be 3-0 by now.

Should of scored a few more, dominated and FGR didn't really cause problems at all.

Got to say that forest green were absolutely fucking dire.

Time wasting from the start, play acting from the start, it was embarrassing. In the end they were outclassed offering not a decent chance at goal by a Mansfield side that barely got out of 2nd gear (almost reverse in the first half)

Mansfield started slowly, interrupted by a FG side who were intent on disrupting play at any chance and falling over at a gust of wind.

2nd half we were much better (bar the poor Angol) and dominated from the get go, 2 goals in no time settled the game. Interesting to note that despite his side getting 6 yellow cards, he thought we were the dirty team.

That was a league standard performance or team.

No disrespect to FGR but I think we will need to get used to the 'weaker' teams coming to FM for a draw with the usual tactics of time-wasting, etc from the first minute. Thankfully we overcame this today as FGR were extremely poor and the ref wasn't fooled too often (thought he was quite good). It won't be that easy very often methinks.

They came for a draw, wasting time from minute one, kicking players drawing pointless fouls.. FGR we're there for the taking. Nice to see Lee Collins still can't defend. FGR looked a dirty side based on the fact they had to foul the likes of white and bending who were running rings around them and a few FGR players got it on them because they were loosing.

2-0 should of been a lot more. We started slow but looked streets ahead once we got into gear.

Personally think we need another midfielder to make things tick, digby and Byron both seem a bit quiet. And a striker is definitely needed

Well we got a good beating today, a very fair result and it should have been by more.

We put in plenty of effort but it’s taking too much out of us, and were not able to focus on our own game.

We simply have to strengthen before it’s too late, of our new signings perhaps Lee Collins is the best, but not impressed with the others. Bloody hopeless recruitment really.

However perhaps more credit to Mansfield is required, they are a very forceful side. Bound to do well.

Luckily for me I was pointed in the direction of the Railway Inn before the match, great real ale, great prices and very friendly locals/supporters. Mansfield have gone up in my estimations after todays trip.

Yeah Railway is good, don't go any further down the hill towards town centre though, because it's a dump full of wreck heads.

Aye was in there earlier. Usually in from ahout 11-1 in that front room on the right and know the landladies for years so always pop in the side room and beat the queue.

Always recommend that pub, it's decent.

The green dragon is alright also.

Thanks for the honest comment.. it's nice to actually read something positive about a visit to Mansfield.. as for the game, I wasn't there!.. I'm in London at the athletics for the weekend,
Sounds like we deserved it!.

Yeah, well beaten. Actually didn't think Collins was deliberately time-wasting first half, he was just looking round desperately for anything on and there wasn't.
Far too lightweight in midfield and barely registered a shot. Apart from that...

You'll have enough about you to stay up (and more) if you try and play football - there's enough shite down there to have enough about you.- you've enough there.

Just don't play act and time waste all the time, yeah we've all done it, but after 5 minutes? Ultimately fitting in is the first thing to do when you come up, but you won't win any admirers playing like that.

Not a go, just an honest observation - though I guess you lot are used to dealing with criticism etc

You have to be really, really shit to get relegated from this division.

FGR ain't gunna be in no relegation battle.

Going to have to come up with a few more options than whacking it long for Doidge to knock down to people who aren't there. Didn't help that Noble had a poor game, usually much better distribution than that. Thought first half you were a bit off it too which kept us in it but you sorted yourselves for the second half and took your rewards.

I've seen much worse than FGR over the years in this division. They'll be fine once they find their feet. Once they get three points on the board it'll be a weight off of shoulders.

However, ignore people who say there's not much difference between League 2 and the National League, there is a gulf in class. Anyone can beat anyone here, whereas in non-league the poor teams are generally a ready made three points. Teams get punished far much more for making mistakes in this league.

I kind of agree with the above comment. A few years ago, when we were a reasonable Conference side when we played Northampton Town in the FA Cup. At that time they were really struggling near the bottom of Division Two, a team ripe for beating, but on that day we made them look like Brazil. Some of our fans seem to think we will do a Bristol Rovers and breeze through the division in one season. I am a bit more realistic in my expectations and just hope that our proud record of never being relegated is preserved come the last day of the season.

I wasn't expecting anything from the trip to Mansfield and am just grateful we didn't get a thrashing...although that didn't seem to affect our next opponents Yeovil who bounced back from their opening day education at Luton.

Agree, though we haven't got the AGM Cup to save us here, which did help with that record!

Very true, eternally grateful to the good people at Salisbury City being as good with money as the bankers of the World in the run up to the financial crash...don't suppose we can hang that one on them too?

I've yet to find one FGR fan who thinks that.
There are many, and I'm one of them, who would dearly love FGR to be promoted as there are hundreds of fans wanting same for their club.
Wishful thinking and breezing through are not the same.

Looking forward to seeing how we get on against Yeovil at home on Saturday. This will hopefully give us another more positive perspective. Take it from there, but still expect at least one more signing of some quality, probably a few hours before the deadline.

I see the Yeovil game is no longer all ticket, why would it be!

Deserved defeat, fair play to Mansfield look a good side probable promotion contenders. Anything from this game would have been a bonus.

Yeovil should be more winnable for us, no idea why it was all ticket, not a police decision luckily now reversed by the club.

It's a strange one, sides like Bristol Rovers, Crawley and Fleetwood all did very well (I think one of them didn't gain automatic their first season) but for everyone of them you have sides that struggled.

The season we won it - I still maintain probably the hardest conference there was for some years- due to the sides in it - started well the season after then didn't win for 3 months - we were found out and didn't have a plan B - the issue was the plan A worked in the conference and we didn't need to change it.

As FI said earlier, there is no easy teams here, every team can literally beat each other or give it a damn good go - it's how sides do against those around them which makes the difference.

Not an observation just from Saturday but in general as well. When did this game we all love become about boring the fans to death in the vague hope you may whittle away enough time to draw or maybe nick one from a set piece?

I go to watch a game if we get beat so be it but god save me from all this time wasting and gamesmanship the % of success must be less than 10% just play the game and have a go. I honestly felt for the FGR fans who made the trip to watch that and still get beat.

Goalkeeper booked for time wasting in the first half... utter madness.

FGR were conference standard on the day but luckily theres a few teams around the bottom that will be far worse. Interesting Collins was CB, he wasn't good enough there so we tried him in midfield where he was better but ultimately not good enough.

Did better than the last time a Mark Cooper side came to the mill.... good ol 5-0 county

I don't think the lad was deliberately time-wasting. His kicking was very poor in the our game v Barnet (and even then he was taking too long to kick the damn thing), so I think he knows it's a weakness and takes heaps of time trying to get it right and given his youth (he's 19 I think) he just didn't have to maturity and game sense not to piss off the ref.
