Based on one game, Mansfield will have to be much better in the final third if they want to trouble the top 7 this season.

They obviously have the players, but something doesn’t look quite right.

Today they played against an absolute shambolic mess of a team with a woeful defence, yet needed a softish? penalty to win. There’s probably 20 teams (at least) better than Carlisle that won’t concede anywhere near as many golden opportunities, so Mansfield will certainly have to improve their end product.

But at least you aren’t Carlisle United.

Oh we’re more than understanding of our forward options, they’re nearly and bad as Kane hemmings from last season lol.

It’s why we’ve not lost but drawn so many. We’ve got to improve to move up the table

was it the case that we wouldn't attack or was it more that we just couldn't attack?

We were just much better than you in midfield, pretty much.

I was actually surprised by Carlisle, you’ve started well and normally play decent football, what you served up today wasn’t what I expected at all.

We all have off days, no-one is immune from that, but it was just substandard from what I’ve seen of Carlisle over the years.

Carlisle came and offered nothing and got exactly what they deserved, nothing. Bloody piss poor effort.

350 fans from Carlisle is a good effort, and Sheridan and the Carlisle players offered them absolutely sod all.

Mansfield themselves were average and missed a string of sitters in the 2nd half to double the lead. I find it odd Carlisle have won 3 games playing those tactics, which would suggest Sheridan maybe got it wrong today.

Nervy from Mansfield, and a milestone for me. I actually saw flitcroft win a home game. Whoop.

The referee what a bald headed twat like that was not a penalty and the player did not even appeal he just slipped, fucking ref FUCK OFF YER c***. FCKIN KNOCK HIM OUT.

Meh expected to lose this one, 1-0 isn’t too damaging even though it sounded an abysmal performance. Pen looked a very poor decision looking at a video on Twitter.

I thought it looked harsh at the time, and having seen it back I think the Mansfield player just slipped. He got straight back up and wanted to play on. No appeals at all. The ref was in a perfect position as well so fuck knows how he saw it as a foul. Dreadful refereeing again in this league.

But I stand by my comment that our performance deserved defeat so we can’t complain too much. But equally Mansfield have been let off the hook for their pathetic finishing.

In fairness drysdale had a history with Mansfield’s fans (though he’s been alright of late),but he made some ridiculously daft decisions all round.

Well I thought Carlisle were no worse than Newport, and Newport are in the automatics! But I agree that Carlisle were very poor and the match stats reflect that. I thought the set pieces were the highlight of our play.

I didn't think the penalty was a penalty but I thought there was a foul on Davies later that should have been a penalty.

That was a pretty blatant penalty not given later in the game to be fair, still cannot get over that referee performance.

Yes we were very poor because we are a poor team run by a poor club, why did you expect us to be good??

You're fucking shit too by the way after not pissing the league last season like you were supposed to and still being down here.

About as piss-poor a performance as you'll ever see in professional football. Brings to mind that famous Bill Shankly quote, we were lucky to get nil. The fact that we've got a performance like this in us is very troubling and we just have to hope that they're occasional abominations rather than regular occurrences.

From how we've approached games so far this season, I'm sure this level of not troubling the goal wasn't in Sheridan's game plan, after all it's clear we weren't exactly restricting Mansfield's chances. I'd have to hear more from those that were there, but if we've been dominated in midfield despite putting an extra man in there, then that must be what backfired. Midfield has normally been the best place on the pitch for us and perhaps adding Glendon from the start upset the balance somehow, perhaps Devitt is, as I suspected, better used as a central rather than attacking midfielder.

He’s just an odd one and very eccentric.

His decision in the 2nd half to try and play advantage when we clearly had none made no sense and it riled the home fans when it thenp went out for a throw in to Carlisle - the fans weren’t bothered about Carlisle doing anything wrong it was the ref.

The penalty was soft but as others have said he let a really strong penalty shout go when it looked like Davies was taken down.

We have to start taking chances.
