Amazing how you can be under the cosh for long periods of a game and come away with a 4-0 victory.
Got to say to DSL that Worsnop pulled off a string of great saves in his first game of the season and Shaw is unrecognisable from last season. He was full of running, energy and fight, all of which were absent last season under Burr. The referee was probably the worst to ever take a match at the Deva. He got virtually every decision wrong, including the pen for our 3rd. He even refused to stop play when Theo Vassell was out cold after after a really nasty head injury, which required, paramedics, stretcher, head brace, oxygen and hospital.

I'm pretty confident we can stuff our perennial jinx team on Monday

Tranmere looked anything but top of the table material today against a dogged Southport who were full value for their point. Cook's well taken goal aside, Tranmere didn't threaten until after the 86th minute when Belford pulled off a couple of quality saves. Southport's substitutions changed the game even if Almonds goal was a bit flukey.
Ah well, another good day out spoiled by Brabins feckless tactics.

Comfortable win for us - even when we went a bit sleepy in the 2nd half and left some sitters for North Ferriby their finishing was woeful - if we were still playing now I don't think they would have scored. From what I saw of them today i'd be suprised if they stayed up this season.

As for us, can't complain with 3 wins from 3 at home and no goals conceded. The 2 main areas for improvement for me is that we need to be more clinical against better sides and need to improve our away form. If we do this I think we'll finish in the top 10.

Total football? Yep. Plastic pitch? Not a problem, can we roll it up and take it back home with us please?

Pissed it. Starting to get going now, still a work in progress but when we really click, wow.

Btw great gesture from the Stones to let our coach lot in for a fiver, friendly club top stuff. :brill:

Not very often Southport can boast the days highest conference attendance. 3046 at Haig Avenue.

Just back, I was on the ill-fated coach and missed the first two goals, but delighted to see three more of course. Really seemed to be clicking, all playing well but I reckon Noble coming in is a big part of it.
As said, Maidstone made very kind gesture letting us in for a fiver, helpful stewards and friendly fans in a tidy little ground. Shame we were too late to spend more on your beer. Your number 15 was your stand-out player for me.

Deserved win for us today.

We were well of the pace first half, though. Sloppy passing in midfield at times and we really struggled to get the ball into wide areas and then crosses in for Rhead (who looked off the pace). That said, we kept Macclesfield at arms length and they didn't really create anything and the goal came from a shot, which hit the post and landed nicely for their player. I wasn't really sat there at HT overly worried because we do create.

Much better in the second half and I felt Macc gave us a hand. They started the first 5/10 minutes quite quickly and that suited us. Good counter attack for the first. Seemed to take an age to go in and I thought he'd missed the chance to shoot but he dug it out. Second was from the 2nd phase of a corner and Marriott scored only a few minutes after coming on. Saw the final 10 minutes out with relative ease, really, and Marriott is probably kicking himself for not shooting instead of squaring to Anderson (who had the beating of both Macc FB's).

Given we had no Wood, a half fit Rhead, a makeshift CM pairing and no Raggett or Muldoon we did fairly well.

Found Macc's tactics very un-Askey like. For whatever reason, they kept lumping the ball from right back to left wing all game. That'd make sense if Beevers wasn't about 6'2" and could head a ball but they weren't really getting too much joy from it.

That's what happens when you put your only out and out centre forward on the left wing. Askey seems to use that tactic most when against the better sides as an out ball, but like you say when up against a big fullback who's decent in the air it just doesn't work. We really need a decent forward so we can play properly when going forwards.

I dream of being as shite as Tranmere :D
If we play like that on Monday, you might break your duck.

Draw about right, Southport raised their game and aside from their player-manager, who was lucky to stay on the pitch, all played fairly well. Didn't understand why Almond wasn't in their starting xi. Rovers had too many off-form or tired and Brabin's subsitutions were a throw-back to last season.

Relegation material stuff from us in the first half. We changed from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 today and got completely overrun in midfield by York's narrow diamond. Improved in the second half but, like Dagenham last week, the game was already over.

While I still think we'll stay up - there are 40 games left - we need a result soon. It's probably only going to come if Yakubu and DSY are involved so we need them back fast.

York - moved the ball quickly when they realised they could dominate midfield. Second half wasn't great from them but like I said the game was dead. Connelly is a decent player, absolutely ran the show in the first-half. They won't be troubling the top 8, if the top 10, though.

Good win today, but 4 nil made us look good even though we spent most of the game without the ball.

Some strange decisions from the ref; didn't have a clue, seriously risk the health of vassell.

Good work all round when defending today and good that we're scoring. Wish i was going to Woking given there form.

Our early goals must have been down to Sutton having to get used to playing on grass :pmsl:

Southport fans, how did Stanley and Howe get on for you?
Howe was a MOTM contender, very little got past him and he seemed to quickly form a good partnership with Josh Thompson. Stanley made himself known early on with a flying tackle, then was quietly effective and seemed to still have decent stamina despite his lack of games for you.

It was nice to see our lads grow their balls back today after last week. We were well worth the point.

Thanks to the 2000+ Tranmere fans for popping down, your gate receipts have probably paid one of our player's wages for the season!

Looking ahead to Monday. There's a lot of tough games to predict. A fair could go either way . Interesting fixture list.

They come up next Saturday, can't remember us doing anything against those jammy gits.

Think the last time we beat Woking was two years ago, Jamie Menagh with a cracking little goal on a Tuesday night. Anyway, looking forward to finally seeing what Ben Gordon has to offer on Monday, SEE YOU THERE Sparrow.

Agreed.
Thanks for letting us all in. It was a decent atmosphere and the policing low-key, but no significant trouble. Cheshire and North Wales police could learn something from this.

That was 3 years ago. I think the lucky Southerners have beaten us 4 consecutive times since then.

I hope we have a decent ref next Saturday against FGR.
Last year's ref was a spineless so and so and didn't punish any of their thuggery.

It was probably a fair result, and to be fair to Torquay, they looked half decent, whilst we in turn looked uncustomarily shaky, especially at the back, and letting in a brace against a team who had only scored twice in the previous five games is if nothing else annoying.

Equally annoying, no change that, more frustrating really, was seeing the difference the subs made, especially MIller, and I know Kinnear hates changing any winning side, but with the latter we are talking about the best, or certainly as good as any forward in the league and he just makes things happen, but if nothing else this result as disappointing as it was, especially considering thje journey, will hopefully mean he returns from his bench sitting duties and probably our Orient loanee Moore as well. Okay I couldn't really say how good he was based on his thirty minutes, but can say, despite a strong first five games how poor the gaffers son was. So a two player change in the line up for the Aldershot game looks inevitable, with Lafayette possible moving to the left wing with Emmanuel, whose performances in general, despite some moments of real skill have been largely disappointing popping his arse on the bench.

The game could have been completely different if Thomas had scored with what was a sitter in the first half, but can't really claim we would have won. At least we kept battling, and could, should have equalised in the dying seconds, but no complaints really

Excellent 4-3 away win at Darlington. But my god we made it hard work for ourselves and we were hanging on in the end despite being 4-1 up and cruising at one stage. Scored 17 and Conceded 15 after 6 games! Never known anything like it.

There wont be any thuggery from us, just from your lot trying and failing to kick us as we run rings around you.

Another TOTAL FOOTBALL MASTERCLASS. Most of your fans will already be in the pub or heading home by half 4 next Saturday as they can't stomach watching their side get HUMILIATED by the Barcelona of the National League.

Discipline in keeping our shape along with an injection of confidence and we'll be ok.
We've been far too gung ho in attack up to today leaving our centre backs far too exposed.

Disagree, you lost to North Ferriby and are therefore penalised with mandatory relegation.
