I know it's not chip shop fare but I've been waiting days to make a worthwhile offering to this thread - I guess the battered burger is a poor/lazy man's substitute for a proper home-made Spam Fritter. Happy memories.

That looks awful, I think my heart stopped just looking at it

Battered bits, chips and chip shop curry sauce is now exotic to me. I could even have it for breakfast tomorrow.

COD?!! Eurrghh!
Those inflatables are not called Harry the Cod, you poor Southeners getting served that shit instead of a nice proper piece of Haddock!
I always ask for haddock. Two reasons, the first being that they have to cook it from fresh as it is far less popular than cod and you can be certain that it hasn't been sitting around for a while if the chippy isn't busy...second one, it is sustainable, not quite as endangered a fish as cod.

Good news for those of us in this division next season, one of the best chippies I have found was in York, about a ten minute walk from the railway station. Getting on a packed train and eating fish and chips was probably not the most sociable thing I have ever done, bordering on mental torture of my fellow passengers!

As nice as fish and chips is, I really don't like the greasy smell of it. Best chippy I've had is in Canterbury. Surprised at York, inland chippies don't tend to be anywhere near as nice as seaside chippies

Battered burgers? I must try this. Btw guys, anyone who wants a sit down chippy must try Steels in Grimsby. It is the best fish and chips in the land ( I haven't tried this Rochdale one).
Steels is very good but Ernie Becketts accross the road tops it for me, infact we have just got home from having our tea there so when i saw you mention Steels i had to chuck Ernie Becketts into the ring!

I know what you mean about the inland chippies, but I guess these days you can get fish fresh to just about anywhere in the country, the main thing is that it is kept cold and cooked properly.

Absolutely and must be fried in beef dripping not vegetable oil. Chips twice cooked at a minimum :)

Have you seen the Simpsons where Homer chooses to become obese and sees Dr Nick who tells him about the paper test? Battered burgers make chip paper transparent. I refer to it as heart attack because that's exactly what I'm expecting to have within the next 10 years because of it. Now only have one of them once every couple of months as a treat. I usually go for fishcake or battered sausage. One other drink I like, and I'm with LeWhites on Dandelion and Burdock and Cream Soda, is Cherry 7Up, but it is very rare. Only one chippy (of the five in Tewkesbury) I know actually do it.

I'm a huge fan of scraps as well.

Darlington 5-0 up on Whitby Town tonight! Promotion to Conference North now looks assured

Stop trying to derail the food thread.

On the subject of the Rochdale chippy, it is very good, even the players use it. But the one just outside Gresty Road is the best I've been to on a footy day.

Oh, I also hate fizzy non alcoholic drinks. Coke especially is the worst offender. Shove it.
But you drink Monster?! 7up is always good, as is Tango. Not a fan of those old-fashioned nostalgia drinks.

I once had macaroni cheese fritters so we can reduce that 10 years I feel.

Cream soda with a big dollop of Cornish Dairy ice cream in it. My word Clive.

Sounds good. I'm convinced that the 'Butterbeer' at Harry Potter Studios is just cream soda and squirty cream. Never had it with ice cream in but I used to love a coke float

When I was in primary school, my mate's mum made the best coke floats ever. My mum would never let me have one and I don't think I've had one since I was about 8 or 9 (I'm 31 now).

There are six acceptable drinks.

1. Water
2. Beer
3. Cider
4. Gin
5. Energy drink
6. Non fizzy Rubicon.

Energy drink is grim. Makes my piss almost glow in the dark, dread to think what it does to your insides. Gin is horrible. Mango rubicon is incredible though

Nice can of Tiser always went down well with a Satdy dinner time (between 12-1.30) chippy.
