Why the hell haven't we got a thread for the king of all prizes?

The title is, of course, won by the first team mathematically unable to go up or down.

I think we're still in with a shot at this, if we hit our traditional second-half slump again this season.

Worryingly though, this title is often a close-run thing, and if it's a photo-finish between 2 or more teams on a given day, we're never going to win it, because what with our relentless time-wasting, we get at least 6 minutes stoppage time every game.

I quite fancy Carlisle for the title, I have to say. They're nicely poised already in 13th, and with a beautifully mediocre GD of zero.

Let the trash talk and hot bantz commence.

We own this thread, the attacking/defensive effectiveness graph on experimental 361 has us nicely positioned right at the origin.

Usually those teams in mid-table gain safety from relegation fairly early on but it's not till the last couple of weeks that they start becoming mathematically incapable of reaching the play-offs.

Safe to come in here now I hope!

11 from relegation and 11 of the play offs! Hopefully we keep progressing and open the gap to the bottom (win tomorrow and it’s 14) and close on the top seven but looks most likely this is where we will end up, possibly even winning it!

Don't rule us out - our ability to win at home and inability to win away means we're as mid-table as it comes.

We're also 11 pts from relegation and the playoffs.

Let's keep the dream alive, guys.

I think we may have blown this for this season, sadly - I don't think we can get relegated (well yeah, sure, mathematically we can do it, but it would take a truly exceptional set of results to go down with 55 points), but I fear unless we have the choke from hell, we're not going to be able to mathematically be banished from the promotion race for some time.

Otherwise, I still like the look of Carlisle - they're quietly going about their business, staking out a robust claim to the centre ground. Crazy like a Fox indeed.

Interesting stats. Just shows we're actually better then a lot of people give us credit for.

Stevenage Cambridge and Carlisle are joint winners as it stands, both being a combined 24 points from playoffs/safety

24 - Carlisle - 10 from playoffs 14 from 23rd
24 - Stevenage and Cambridge - 13 from playoffs 11 from 23rd

Nice to see I'm spending my week off productively :ffs:

It's between Carlisle and Stevenage, but deffo not us. We've got Lincoln, Notts, Accy, Swindon, Wycombe and Luton all coming up, and honestly I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if we lose all 6 games.

In fact, I'm worried we'll be sucked right into a relegation dogfight if the sides below us pick up enough points over the next 6-8 games.

Well it'll obviously change between now and then, that's just where it is right now.

A tentative hello to this thread from dahn sour.

We are so shit I cannot believe we are here. Our last couple of wins have come with our keeper winning the man of the match awards. Still points on the board don't lie.

In the 90s we had a spell of finishing between 10-14th for years, could well be heading that way again. Looked very sorry for ourselves at the weekend, first I've seen that under the Cowleys.

I think we've got a very good chance of seeing a CUFC hoist the hotly-contested grand prize here, with Carlisle in 10th, Col U in 13th and Cambridge in 14th all looking bang average.

But mere "bang average" is not good enough - you have to be the bang averagest to come away with the glory here. Who's up for making history?

I have a feeling we may come out of the dark and really stake a claim for this over the coming few weeks.

Exciting times!

I think Cheltenham and Stevenage look good for this. We might have a few too many points, disappointingly.

Yep, if only we hadn't sacked Derry :( The Swindon game is last chance saloon if we're serious about winning this but it's not happening as we're going to beat them.

Disappointing I know, but not winning the CUFC league is a bigger one afaic. There's no way we're going to beat Carlisle 2 or 3 nil at theirs, even though HG thinks his lot are shit.

Looks like it's between Cheltenham and Boro then for this. I'm going with Stevenage as they tend to win or draw their home games but lose all their away ones.

Can we make a late charge for this prize too?
