Good result. Further confirms the play-offs. Southport are one of the packets sides I have seen at this level. If only they had some attacking threat.

Let's be honest, no sod could have predicted that, everything literally flew in. We just got our goals aided by some fairly pathetic defending from Aldershot at times and grew in confidence. As it goes going forward Aldershot didn't look that bad and troubled us a few times but couldn't defend for fudge. As weird it may sound, I rate them more than Bromley who we somehow failed to beat on Saturday.

Alabi will get all of the plaudits but personally delighted for teenager Sam Hughes who also scored twice himself and was excellent again. A star in the making. Hannah with the goal of the night as well, although Aldershot's opener was decent.

Actually I was a little harsh on reflection. Lafayette (who scored our first) played really well and I actually clapped him off in the 2nd half but he is about the only one who escapes with any credit!

Everyone else's performances were totally unacceptable and I was embarrassed to watch that tonight!

By the way any chance I can request that no more '8' jokes are posted. Ive had enough messages from mates in the last hour to last me a lifetime

That was a really good 0-0. Braintree are a very dangerous outfit when they play football, just a shame it's amongst a lot of playacting.

We had some good chances and I feel either side could have won the game, without really dominating proceedings for the majority. Also, the Braintree no 10 is the most dangerous player I've seen at this level. Every time he got the ball I was scared.

Would have taken a point beforehand, and the results went our way tonight too. We are well and truly back in the fight, and I just hope that Blissett going off is more precautionary than anything severe.

Pleased with that result after a nervous and shaky start to the game. Defended for our lives as Tranmere had lots of attempts on goal but we had plenty of chances of our own. Shame we couldn't claim the winner and hit the bar instead but a draw was probably fair overall. James Hurst scored both our goals but for some reason Dicko has been credited with the first on the BBC site.
Great to see Olli Johnson get on the pitch for the first time since the play off final last year, if his recovery progresses well he will be a big asset for us as we look to consolidate our position in the National league.
Referee Stephen Ross was excellent, didn't really notice him at all which is to his credit.
Bromley away next, bring it on.

Wish our game was postponed again - a duller 90 mins you will not find.

I don't think 8-2 was a fair reflection of the game. 11-1 would have been about right.
I've waited more than 40 years to see a performance like that. It wasn't that Aldershot were that bad ... they just couldn't live with us. Sort of makes up for the referee robbing us at theirs. We took Alibi off and I think if he'd stayed on he would have got a couple more. Ref denied us a pen (again) and missed a lot of handballs.

Well. I've seen some poor refs in my time watching the game but I don't think I've seen anyone as incompetent as that clown tonight! I think his worst decision though was when he gave them a free kick on the edge of the box right at the death, after what was an obvious theatrical dive by their player. He could well have cost us 2 points tonight.

As for the game, I thought we were superb for the first 5 minutes or so, not much can be said about the rest of the game.

Just got back. What a complete shambles. With 11 players against 10 they were there for the taking but we didn't capitalise. Too much side-to-side rubbish before either being offside or giving away a stupid free kick. Murtagh then goes and gets himself off, at a time when we looked second best even with a man advantage. Obviously the inevitable happened and our horrific defence finally gave way.

The atmosphere around the club stinks. We're in trouble and the players, management and board know it. It's still possible that we could get relegated so we might as well take the embarrassment now instead of next season. Cheltenham are absolutely going to Chester our bunch of kids on Saturday. Nice confidence boost that they needed.

Oh, and on Eastleigh, they won't make the play-offs, don't worry. I know it's customary to celebrate a last minute winner a bit more mental than usual but they actually had fans running on the pitch. This is a side who had beaten a bunch of under 21s with budget three times as big. Hobby Club-tastic.

Our defense went completely missing for your goal though. Leaving Crocombe exposed to one shot was bad enough, there was no chance he was going to deal with a second shot.

Our main/only attacking threat came off the bench with 10 minutes to go, he's had a knock recently and we need him fit for the more important games where we stand more of a chance of getting a result.

I found it quite funny that your crowd objected to absolutely every decision that didn't go your way! The ref was far from perfect for both sides - O'Brien's yellow card could well have been a red (Cartwright may just have been in a position to cover though), Phenix somehow won us a free kick by managing to continually fall down over a distance of around 20 yards, and for you Arnold got away with wrestling Challinor when I've seen bookings given for what he did. You lot should have been more pissed off with your players for failing to take apart a struggling side who were on a long midweek away trip, and instead resorting to running down the clock in whatever way they could.

Fair assessment.
Well that's Guiseley ticked off my list and I won't be making that drive again. Awful traffic going and on the way back got stuck in the Valley Parade football traffic and then the M62 was shut at Oldham.

I thought Guiseley were decent, and obviously fresher than us. I thought the game was there for the taking, but yet again we couldn't convert possession into goals. They looked far better than chester or Gateshead on previous showings, and a draw was a fair result.

Frustrating... first 15 thought we were exceptional, the rest of the game exceptionally average. Guiseley greatly improved as the game went on, and finished the game as the better side. As the Gary Brabin coaching manuel clearly states that, when you're not controlling the game, hoofing it to the big lump up front (who can't jump) is the way to go, no prizes for guessing what the second half was like... Hope McNulty's fit for saturday.

As I said on Saturday, Aldershot are garbage, it's a miracle they've escaped a relegation battle.

Because, up until last night we have been very good at beating the sides below us (our only defeat to a bottom half this season before tonight was against Kidderminster)

Slip ups from #teamgloucestershire this weekend and that flicker of hope that will inevitably be dampened gets a little stronger. FGR have displayed a few instances of poor form when bouncing back from defeat already this season, so the sucker in me is hoping for more of that. I've said all along that we can catch them in 2nd but that the title is a spot too far and I'm sticking to that.

"they actually had fans running on the pitch." Pretty sad that was I agree.

I'd 8 2 have been an Aldershot fan last night.

Just out of interest though all 8 Chester goals were either scored and/or assisted by an ex Grimsby Town player.

Also, one of their fans travelled through Halifax on his way to the game. You see, I'm getting in on this too. :ds:

Interesting plot twist:

"The Messiah" Jim Harvey may relegate Halifax after all.
It's not a twist at all, the narrative has moved further along towards our Conference North title in 2017. :woo:

Big week for us next week now. Need to beat Macc (Sat), get at least a point from Dover (Tues) and beat Kiddy (Sat). Anything less than 7 and that's our already very slim chance gone.

Even doing that, and considering our away record isn't great, 3 of our 6 remaining away games are Dover, Tranmere and Cheltenham (on the final day).

If anyone's interested, here's an article about the PO contenders that an exile did on our Lincoln Vital board - http://www.lincoln.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=438401

On balance we deserved to win yesterday, but our defence got cut open multiple times by a poor Welling side which is worrying with Tranmere and Lincoln coming up.

Yet again the referees in this division astound me - somehow didn't really affect the game but I counted no less than 5 occasions where he gave free kicks against the player who was fouled.

Was hoping for a more convincing win to set us up for Tranmere on Saturday, but 3 points are always welcome. If we can beat Tranmere then the play-off push becomes a whole lot more real

"In short, 12 of Dover's 13 fixtures are against sides either chasing promotion or fighting relegation; and that many games in 7 weeks against sides with everything to play for may present too difficult a hurdle. And with only 588 people in the area interested, one wonders whether it is worthwhile in the first place."

No need for that dig! We got 724 last night!
