I would translate it to "the future is almost as bright as the pretty pretty lights I see on all these antidepressants"

Terrible overoptimism. Style of football gets you nowhere, substance gets you everywhere (whatever style it is in). Substance and good style get your players bought quickly! Not a bad thing but it makes pushing through leagues harder. If you target multiple promotions it's almost more prudent to play in an ugly style with players people don't want to pay money for.
