Bad set of results for Pools especially Torquay getting Gary Johnson-timed-into-it-again but it doesn't change what we have to do really. Win the next 6 (or possibly 5 and a draw) and we'll be up as champions.

I would have no problem with Pools being promoted, good club. As has been said before though, you are a very similar club to us and so what will happen is that you will end up in the play offs and you will lose at home to Bromley or Eastleigh.

Soz.

You might be right but while we have a chance you have to believe.

They get 10 minutes of Johnson-time each match if they need a winner, seems very suspicious.

Still see Sutton as winners and Stockport to win play offs.
Our position in the table is about right never mind season will be finished soon and transfer window will be open

The investigation will show that if you keep trying to attack until the end you will score late goals. Simples.

All in the mind, once you've done it a couple of times the belief is there that you will always get one more chance. Plus it's in the heads of the opposition that you keep doing it so they start dropping off deeper and deeper and nerves start to creep in.

Can't fathom while Shots were time wasting and playing for a point towards the end as surely they need wins if they have any chance of catching the play off contenders.
We were wasting time from the kick-off,pretty much. Amuses me when our home support has a go at visitors for exactly that ; I will remind them when the next one has a go.
Shots attitude has been poor for weeks, even when we had a chance of making the playoffs. Go for it, what’s to lose... No, let’s settle for a safe, “ hardworking “ performance, and cosy mid-table. Pathetic.
Rant over.

Starting to feel like a proper title race now everyone's basically caught up on games, Torquay have some tricky fixtures, our next two are make or break for the top three, Sutton have an easy run minus the game with us and Stockport are just on a tear.

I think Torquay winning last night was bad for Stockport in terms of them winning the league. 5 points is a fair gap now

Yeah I'm not at all confident with the games we have coming up, really tough next 4 games against 3 play off contenders and title hopefuls Stockport.

By the time you play Sutton one of you will probably be saving players for the play offs so might not be such a big game after all.

They've still got a lot to do but my money is on Stockport.

Stockport County.
Sutton will win it. I was looking at their fixtures and they're piss easy apart from when they play Hartlepool.

We need to push for top three though. I thought it was closed off a couple of weeks back with Sutton, Hartlepool and Torquay nailed on. We'll be shithoused by Bromley or Eastleigh in the QF'S of the play offs if we don't get in. Can't be arsed with that at all. I would take getting done by Torquay, Hartlepool or Sutton on the chin slightly better to be honest. All three have been more consistent than us and deserve to be ahead of us.

We've not won more than 2 games in a row since one occurance of a 4 game winning streak right at the start of the season. A good indicator of why we're not title winning material and why after 2 wins in our last 2 at Boreham Wood and Kings Lynn, the smart money is that we will not beat a good play-off side in Halifax on Saturday.

Someone on our forum posted that Torquay have now scored 18 goals on 81 minutes and later. For comparison we’ve scored 7, Stockport, Hartlepool, Notts County, Halifax and Bromley have all scored 8 in that slot.

Sutton for me, too. Impressive at the Rec, unspectacular, simple , pragmatic. Just need to hold their nerve. Game against ‘Pool will decide it.

Sutton’s fixtures are very kind, they just need to hold their nerve. Game against Hartlepool is obviously massive and the trip to Notts next week is tricky partly because of the horrible form we’re in, but other than that their games look comfortable.

Seven on 90 minutes or more too, and 6 of those winners.

Thats not luck, sign of a tenacious team.

Definitely, we were basically having a stroll against them for 75 minutes on Saturday and they managed to find the fight and resilience to come back from nowhere. Ultimately the reason why they’re where they are (and we are where we are tbf).

That was kind of the point of my ‘confusing season’ thing above. All of us had been saying for weeks, months even, that our form was completely unsustainable and we were stinking the place out game after game while managing to win. Scoring wonder goals to win games while creating very little and seeing the opposition fluff chances at the other end. It had to turn.

Somehow it’s managed to turn at the exact moment we decided to change manager. We’re by no means great under Burchnall, I’m not sure we have the players to be tbh, but I think we’re playing a lot better than we have been since the Covid farce against Maidenhead tbh. Yet we suddenly keep missing absolute sitters and every shot the opposition has seems to go in.

Ultimately we’re going to end up about where our performances deserve, just having got there in a bizarre way.

Yes. I have a lot of sympathy for IB in many ways, not least the total lack of rub of the green he's had, especially compared to Ardley, who as you say was often dug out by a wonder goal or ridiculous bit of play laying on the winner for someone. Aldershot in his first game we get mugged for a pen in the 3rd min and never recover, then two decent wins, then go to Pools and look to get back in the game when Roberts gets injured and we're down to 10 - game over. Solihull away next, playing well, 1-0 up, miss a couple of sitters to seal it, lose 2-1. Eastleigh at home was poor - fair enough. Torquay we play well and blob it in the 98th. Then last night dominate the game, miss a few sitters, Eastleigh win with their only two shots.

Obviously a bit more to it than that, but the overall play is far better, the signs of improvement are there, and he deserves a chance with a few of his own players IMO. Sadly the pitchfork-waving mob is already forming. Not that our owners will sack him, but if he doesn't get a few wins before fans are back on May 22 it could be a toxic atmosphere at ML. Probably be the only ground in the country with crowds back where the manager is taking pelters, rather than folk greeting people they haven't seen in a year, etc!

Yes we do keep going for the entire match.

As for Notts game Mark Ellis needed treatment twice with head injuries when Umerah was sent off. So we scored in the last minute of injury time for the point.

Last night there were 4 minutes to go when we had a penalty given too us. Boden has his hands on the ball in the box but Aldershot got him to speak to the linesman and he changed the decision. Never a penalty in a million years. after the goal kick he stops play and book a couple for decent . Then we scored in the last minute of Gary Time. We should have wwon the game normally anyway missed a sitter in the first half. We gave them a goal there only effort on target with shite defending.

Even bloody Hornchurch we should’ve been 3 or 4-0 up before their first foray forward - a speculative shot from 30 yards that was going miles wide before it spun off Rawlinson’s heel and went in.

The big problem is that our reaction to things going against us is horrible. You would think such an experienced spine would be able to stop everyone from panicking if we concede against the run of play or have to defend a couple of corners to see out a game late on. But no, they completely shit themselves every time.

Shots are notorious for conceding late goals, and may well be the worst. It would be interesting to see statistics. So last night was no surprise .
I don’t think it’s lack of fitness, probably a “job done” mental thing. I have always had the impression that Searle is not a great motivator, so I blame him.

FYI, here's an insight into the football processing faculties of the 2 common or garden Shaymen muppets who are also on here sometimes (depends if we're winning or not):

Asked for a prediction on the next game- checks how the last game went, predicts same.

Asked how we're playing tonight- checks score: winning- "we're doing ok"/ NOT winning- "we're playing crap!"

Thanks for asking. :ds:

We scored tonnes of late goals when we won the title in 2016/17. I think it was 25 in the final 10 minutes of games.

Summed up best by being 1-0 down against Torquay on Good Friday until the 86th minute and scored two in three minutes to win and then followed that up on Easter Monday being 1-0 down at Gateshead until the 91st minute and scored two in two minutes to win 2-1.

One game will be TV, almost certainly involving a team in the promotion chase, so to make sure no one has an unfair advantage all games will kickoff at the same time as the TV game. They do this every season. In 2017 we had to go to Macclesfield for a 12:30 kickoff for an end of season dead rubber.
