In slightly more positive news, Roberts might be ready to make his latest attempt to return from Covid on Friday. God knows we need the boost of it lasting more than eight minutes this time.

Big Ben Turner playing it out from the back.
Is he still playing professional football? Christ there’s hope for me yet. He can barely move he’s that stiff.

I still have nightmares about his performance in the playoff final and I’m a neutral.

Ardley gave him a two year deal...

Man moves like that big ship stuck in the Suez Canal. Enjoy his contribution to Halifax’s 95th minute equaliser against us earlier in the season.

We have capitulated again. Even the small morsel of beating Barnet on Monday will be a forlorn and distant hope. Even they will score three or four against us.

We won’t be scoring 3 or 4 goals in a game any time soon. Your defence will be fine.

Text book defending that. Still don't know why he didn't just meet it and pelt it out of the ground. Should have been booked for diving aswell after he lost the ball haha

If Notts County forego 3 points to us on Friday I say we award them an honorary Brotherhood title.

"Pretty good" - 21 points from your last 10 games compared to Notts County's 13 points from 10... I'd say you were a shoe in to get the points.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
More than anything, surprised by County’s tactics last night. It’s relatively easy to beat Aldershot by pressuring and attacking, but if they are given time on the ball to play their passing game, they are quite effective. Nouble and Ogie had all the space in the world on the left flank, and should have taken more advantage, but our strikers were as profligate as usual in front of goal, and we were left hanging on for the points. Notts defence looked jittery for the entire game.
Too late for Shots, County still have it all to play for, other than Sutton, it’s a lottery

We’ve got a weird disparity between our home and away records - only lost one away game all season (shhh Dover have gone) and that was back in October. No idea whether that will continue under the new manager, but generally we’re much better away.

Although none of that is much use because I’ve just checked and apparently we’re at home again on Friday. Bollocks.

That new Notts manager sounds like the type that would get chewed up and spat out if crowds were in.

Amazing what a decent win bonus does to galvanise

End of the day, we have some glaring weaknesses in the squad. Recruitment this season has been awful which is bizarre as last season Ardley didn't put a foot wrong. Should have kept Crawford for starters, we've certainly not signed better.

Thats definitely had an impact but there is a few factors at play with our upturn in form.

Bringing in Dior Angus and Tyler French in January. French is a very good player and has added a lot to the team, and Angus coming in and Yussuf going has led to Thomas playing his proper target man role with Angus a far better second striker doing all the running. Thats improved our shape. On top of Angus scoring 4 goals Thomas has 6 in 12 whereas before he had scored 3 in 17.

The players are almost all playing for contracts in the summer.

Its a pretty new team and its taken a while for us to settle on a formation and system that works.

We aren't amazing or anything but we look a lot harder to break down, and much better going forward, than we were in the first half of the season.

Been hit and miss Crawford when he's got a game, often times looks lazy and gives the ball away too much, still he's only a kid so plenty of room for improvement.

I suspect Ardley’s complete aversion to playing Crawford, Bird and Osborne on any kind of regular basis last season and dumping them in the summer might be one of lots of small things that contributed to Ardley going.

I doubt it’s escaped the owners’ attention that Crawford and Bird are both proving to be useful squad players for teams close to us in the league while being younger and cheaper than our equivalents, while Osborne has obviously been one of the stand out players in the division below.

I liked him, thought he was rangy and always looked to pass forwards quickly, which is not something we've been guilty of this season. It speaks volumes that he's a bit of a fringe player for you but would absolutely walk into our team if he was here now.

I liked Ardley and it's a myth that he didn't play young players having played plenty of young players this season. But, he did get rid of three players who would all have warranted a place at times this season.

He's just not getting in ahead of Featherstone, Shelton, White & Holohan, sometimes he's not even on the bench. We have good quality at this level in the middle of the park.

Hasn't really impressed me in the games he's played. Didn't think it was a signing we needed. Should've signed a better forward with that money.

Probably right with our mental lot, some of whom have decided 'they don't like him but can't put their finger on why', and that he's 'Jamie Fullerton MKII', despite Fullerton's experience being a kids' coaching school in Spain and leaving Bolton u21s two years before he took our job, and Burchnall leaving a job in the Swedish top flight last summer. What they basically mean is they haven't heard of him, and they would have preferred someone like Gary Mills back because 'he knows non-league and at least he's played the game'.

Honestly, if someone had said 10 years ago people would be so upset at losing an FA Trophy game, you'd have laughed in their face, once you'd established they meant FA Trophy, and not FA Cup.

The calls to 'reinstate Ardley' are particularly funny, given it's literally entirely Ardley's squad, bar Enzio.
