Better than Peter Beagrie and Kevin Keegan then was he? They were all rubbish. Add Reddy, Newey, Toner and Smith to that listThat was a hammer blow, we got battered a bit in the last 20mins or so but it wasn't as ridiculous as it sounds that 9 minutes. I was expecting 5-7 minutes, they had a few injuries. Would have felt a hell of a lot longer had that 3rd not gone in.
We were full value for the win despite that. Torquay didn't carve out too many clear cut chances despite an onslaught of late pressure. Whereas we looked dangerous all the way throught the first half.
Sousa and Efete look like a top quality right hand side for this level. Waterfall had another great game too, Torquay's main tactic seemed to be to launch the ball in and Waterfall lapped it up. Hope Danny Wright found his way out of his pocket before we got back on the coach back to GY. Towler looks calm and assured too. Proper Hursty pick that lad. No qualms about Hunt not being tough enough either, his timing alone in all he does means he can tackle players much burlier than him with relative ease and if he doesn't Coke smashes them. Looking forward to seeing Taylor's assist for the the third too as he burst forward and played a great through ball for Clifton. Fucking love a Clifton goal.
A negative would be the left hand side for sure. The jury remains out on Crookes, however he did make a couple of great headers and blocks in the box at nervy moments. We also invited way too much pressure in the second half when we seemed to have them on the ropes any time we applied attacking pressure.
The most pleasing aspects though we're probably the digging deep and the players reaction at full time. McAtee, Clifton and Coke all absolutely buzzing. McAtee is a gem, even if he's not in the game he's working his arse off and getting the fans up for it when the ball goes out.
Only going off the highlights, but they made it difficult for us at home. I could see them being an acca buster this season. Think they'll make the good teams work for any points and beat those around them. Dark horses, perhaps?
LOL what is your criteria for pulling that list together? You've got some dross and some class. Burnett, in particular, would go straight in as the best player of all time ever for Scunny had he had to stoop as low as pulling on your shirt. Handyside and Donovan both absolute bangers too, not even up for debate.
