New Brentford Manager Speculation

We're still in the dark as to who our new manager will be. Most assumed it would be sorted out during the last weeks of the season, and announced pretty much straight away, but nothing has been announced yet. Probably means it's a manager / coach at a club who still have games to play, and it will only be announced once their season is over.

SkyBet opened a book on this the other day, but I don't think they have a scooby as most of the managers with shorter odds have already been debunked.

My guess is that it's either going to be Paul Clement (which I would very much welcome) or someone completely left field.

Stood behind someone who looked the image of Paul Jewell as he queued to get a ticket at Waterloo this morning. He was wearing a red and white striped top and was carrying a large inflatable bee. Noisy so I didn't hear him but it sounded like he asked for a "Single to Entford, please, mate".

Only takes one or two people betting on it at this early stage and the bookies will cut the odds massively. Back in December Jimmy Kebe (still at Crystal Palace player at this point) was fourth favourite in odds to be next Reading manager. Obviously it was never going to happen.

He has been treated fine. He was offered the new role but rejected it so it was his decision to leave. The whole situation is much different to how 95% of the media have been portraying it.

Effectively the main change was Warburton was told from next season the manager wouldn't have a veto over player transfers. As Warbs is only on a rolling 1 year deal that expired at the end of the season, he told the board he didn't want to work in the role (which is the same role) without a veto, so wouldn't be renewing his contract. The owner tried to get Warbs to agree to the change, they don't want him to go, but the veto removal is non-negotiable. Once it was clear neither would budge, they agreed to part ways.

Warbs isn't being sacked, it isn't acrimonious, he has just chosen to go.

I see, it does seem a pity they couldn't find a compromise.
Maybe Warburton thought they would cave given his success.

Most of the reason we are in such a better position now than 4-5 years ago is down to the owner, we have to back him on decisions like this. No doubt we'd prefer to have Warbs in charge, I think he's a great manager, a true gent, and no one else would have done as good a job, playing as good football.

I'd prefer to have both stay, and am absolutely gutted he is leaving, but Benham vs Warbs, I'd have Benham every day. Hopefully we can get in a good manager to replace him.

I agree though, as much as I value what Steve Evans has done for my club.......Tony Stewart would be the one to back if it came to a showdown.

Nobody has a clue who it's going to be which is pretty exciting, usually there are rumours about which give some clues. More than likely it will be someone completely out of left field that none of us have heard of.

Realistically, what proven British manager is suddenly going to want to work under the terms that Warburton turned down? I know the DoF-type model is becoming increasingly common over here now (and has proven to be quite successful in the cases of Saints & Swansea), but I can't see even those being so extreme that the coach isn't able to veto incoming transfers. Happy to be corrected if wrong.

Seems almost bound to be a foreign coach, or a relative unknown coach from these shores stepping into his first role. Not to say either of these scenarios won't turn out to be a decent appointment - look at how the left-field managerial choices have served Watford, Boro and Norwich this season.

Adkins at Reading had transferred vetoed over his head quite often, but then again he hated that and it was part of his problem here, so maybe can't go through with that again. He has at least worked at two clubs with DoF models. As I said above, i'm surprised he's not more closely linked.
