Genuine blow to our title chances. Was counting on him coming back and being our creative spark for the rest of the season. Fuck sake.

I would not be surprised if we take a dip into the market to replace him in January.

Although having said that, we’ve barely had him all season and we’re sat top of the league so Rowe might not see it as absolutely necessary that we bring anyone in as we still have Khan, Mandeville and Kellerman who can play in those attacking midfield areas

There’s absolutely no mistaking Clarke’s quality though. When the games hectic and everything is happening 100mph around him, he always seems to have that little bit of extra time and composure on the ball… shows just how good he is. Needs to sort them hamstrings out once and for all though!

Big blow to the squad. Clarke is by far our best creative player - he often found ways to unlock defences last year in tight games and get us the win. Mandeville is miles behind and Khan is a different player.

I don’t think we will dip into the market though, we have Mandeville, Khan and Kellerman who can play as a 10 behind the strikers. I think with Akwasi coming back we will start to see 5-3-2 much more than we have (it’s been 5-4-1 for a while), which would mean we only need one CAM on the pitch at any given time.

This has just got ‘talented player who ended up fading out of the game due to recurring injury’ written all over it.

I hope we look for someone. You make a good point but Clarke is (was) our first team CAM, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with us staking our promotion hopes on Mandeville or Khan in that role. Khan is more of a CM to me, I know Rowe has used his primarily as a CAM but I think he makes a good box-to-box mid rather than somebody who can thread passes. And Mandeville is hideously inconsistent, as we know. His first touch when he came on against Halifax was violently bad, I almost wretched when he gave it away for the third time under no pressure whatsoever.

Southend P-P Bromley due to Southend's covid issues. We're in for a busy time, the Yeovil game postponed due to Yeovil's FA Cup game is on the 11th and surely they'll try and fit Barnet and Bromley in, in January and early February.

Mandeville is a strange one, there is absolutely no doubt he has kicked on massively ever since Rowe arrived and he’s had some really good games for us this season. Personally I think he’s better than a lot of our fans give him credit for, which is probably due to how inconsistent and ‘lazy’ he was before Rowe came in. I like how willingly versatile he is aswell, he will do a job anywhere and put a shift in which is something he was accused of not doing pre Rowe! Let’s remember that he did once bang 13 goals across all comps when playing for Donny Rovers in league 1, playing as a ST so you know the quality is there

I’ve also noted how this season opposition fans have tended to give him a lot of credit for his performances against them which shows he’s standing out to fans who don’t watch him every week.

I do agree with you both though that he’s not an exact replacement for Clarke anyway. He’s a little bit different in that he never actually stays in the hole between midfield and attack, he drifts everywhere which is probably what affects his goal and assists numbers. We could do with a replacement that is an out and out creative 10 that stays in those pockets all game similar to what Clarke does. What’s Jay O’Shea up to these days …

Sadly once a player’s hammy starts going regularly it can be bad news.. one of my favourite Notts players growing up, Gary McSwegan, did his. He’d be back for a few games then another 4-6 weeks out. When he was back you’d be wincing every time he stretched or pulled up and wondering when the next lay-off would be. This was mid-90s and I imagine surgical techniques have come on a lot since then, but the hamstring is just one of those niggly ones it’s hard to do much about once it becomes an issue.

Mandeville is dreadful. He is a one game in 6 or 7 player and we can’t carry people like that if we are serious about winning the league. He’s the polar opposite of an Alex Whittle who always turns out a 7 or 8/10 performance. For me Mandeville is an option off the bench when we need fresh legs behind Kabby to try and create something but his assists and goals for a player in his position is very poor.

The 2 points we dropped at Chesterfield mean anything but a win on Monday will leave us with a very poor return on the holiday fixtures. Pete knows that and the outcome will depend on whether Paul Hurst has worked out a way to stop The Shaymen when we're on fire (as he put it), yet. :bdick:

Guessing our line up for whenever we play next should be fun, as l am expecting some new signings to be announced from Monday onwards. Ollie Kensdale will be the first as he has been with us since just before the Notts County game.

He divides opinion mate, he’s just one of those players. I agree I don’t think he’s the answer to playing every game in the number 10 if we want to win the league, but as I said he has definitely improved and has come up with a few big goals and performances in big games since Rowe took charge.

He has improved yeah I’d agree. For me he’s ideal off the bench as over 20 mins he can add some real energy to our attacks.

Alty have apparently got the Covid so our game is off.

Sure it’s nothing to do with having no strikers and more than likely being able to make more money by having more people in the ground for the rearranged date.

We’ll now go over three weeks without a league game.

If they could stop releasing players & sending them out on loan, it might help matters

No reason that I can see why the league shouldn't make them play us on say the 11th? They've got Covid cases but isolations will have been by then. Both clubs are free.

Them loaning out and releasing a load of players they don't think are up to scratch during a Covid crisis in their squad isn't dodgy at all.

They’ll have signed a decent striker or two by the rearranged fixture I bet.

Totally agree you could even give it an extra day and push it back to Wednesday but you know the soft arse league won’t.

We've only had 3 home league games in 93 days by the time we play Yeovil.

Statement from Woking that we’ll be getting wristbands to stop us moving between the seating and the standing. This is going to potentially be carnage.

Is it down to number of available players now, I think right? It might be out of the clubs hands

Unless we’re just after some good PR (although not sure who is listening other than our own fans who are all shouting ‘call it off), we’ve said we could go for a postponement but don’t want to unless we physically don’t have enough players to field a team. :surr:

Clarke looking like he’s going to be out for the season now that he’s having to have an operation on his hamstring. Gutted for him, hope he comes back stronger and puts these couple of injuries behind him for next season!
Awfully sad news. Genuine huge blow to us, his return was big for the 2nd half of the season. One of those really gutting ones, and awful for the lad too to have such issues at this early stage of his career

Like Cashis I think we look for someone now. We don't really have a direct replacement with Clarkes vision and passing

Is it like, if you have 14 players + a keeper you have to play? I'm sure I heard it changed to that recently, which I think is way fairer than it was tbf. I guess if it does go ahead despite not having the numbers then the bench will tell, when there's like 1 or 2 guys sat there!
