I retract my previous comment in this thread. Fellaini, via spineless officiating and his own dreadfulness, has been the most entertaining part of this match.

We were the better team in the first half - had a bit of luck along the way though. Another penalty in the second half and we might just sneak this.

I'd like to see Lingard and Martial rotate positions with a bit of frequency.

I have to agree that our attacking midfield (the wings, at least) does look a lot quicker and more dangerous with Mata left out of it. If we are going to play this slow build-up, risk-averse style of football that Van Gaal seems set on then it's probably worth sacrificing Mata for pace on the wings for the odd occasion that someone actually spots a run and plays the ball forward.

Ideally Mata would be the number ten and we'd have a more mobile player like Herrera partnering one of our more defensive midfielders in the centre of the pitch but Van Gaal doesn't seem to like that idea very much.

You're more fluent against an open Newcastle side that like to give the ball away with rubbish sideways passes.

It's the more disciplined teams that you struggle against.
