Newcastle’s New Ownership Plans Squad Overhaul​

The Saudi Public Investment Fund’s buyout of Newcastle United was not without controversy. There are many voices concerned about the Saudi state’s involvement in the club’s workings and affairs, even if the buyer guaranteed that it won’t control the club. One thing is for sure, though: the buyer has deep pockets, and won’t shy away from spending on the success of Newcastle United.


The first signs of this money influx are already starting to show. While it won’t have an impact on the club’s Premier League fixtures 2021, the club’s shopping list is already starting to take shape.

Aaron Ramsey​

One of the reported targets for Newcastle is Welsh international Aaron Ramsey who currently plays as a midfielder with Serie A club Juventus. Ramsey started his career with Cardiff City as a schoolboy and remained with the club once he turned senior. For a couple of years, that is, because, in 2008, he was snatched by Premier League club Arsenal.


Ramsey rose to fame in his 2013-2014 season with the Gunners, when the absence of Mikel Arteta from the midfield allowed him to take on a deeper midfield role - where he thrived. The rest of his time with Arsenal was a tale of success - and ended in a transfer to the Serie A.


His transfer to Juve in 2019 turned him into the highest-earning British player on base salary - he was signed with £400,000 a week. But he worked hard for this big pile of money - he played in almost 50 league games so far, and last October, he played in his 50th Champions League match, an achievement reached by only two Welsh players before him.


According to the Daily Star, Ramsey will be the first marquee signing made by Newcastle’s new ownership - and Juve sporting director Federico Cherubini is eager to let him (or rather his hefty paycheck) go.

Anthony Martial​

Another football star rumoured to be headed for Newcastle is Manchester United forward Anthony Martial. The 25-year-old Frenchman made his senior debut with Lyon in 2012 - but his stay there was short. He left for Monaco just a year into his professional career, but he didn’t stay there long either - in 2015, he signed his first four-year contract with Manchester United. Here, he turned out to be a reliable goalscorer and an overall positive addition to the club, helping the team win the EFL Cup and the FA Community Shield, the Europa League in 2017, and earning a Manchester United Player of the Year in the 2019-2020 season.


Internationally, he helped France win the UEFA Nations League in the 2020-2021 season.


Martial is seen as a decent addition to Newcastle’s lineup, and one that will cost the club a great deal: he is unlikely to leave Manchester for anything below his current £180,000 a week, and he will likely also come with a hefty transfer fee.​

Going by what we have to choose from, an "overhaul" is an understatement. General consensus is maybe half a dozen max should be retained. Most are at best good Championship players.
St. Maxamim is a keeper, Calum Wilson....God alone knows where we'd have been without this bloke. Injured half the time but ALWAYS a huge contributer.
Dubravkar, great keeper but incessantly injured for long periods.
And really you're having to think from there. And thats not a good sign. Some, like Shelvey are past their sell by date. Will do a good job for a Championship club, but no longer good enough for Prem
And thats been Ashley operating ethos all along.

True enough, but the big spend will be in the summer, assuming of course we're still in the Prem, given underperforming players injuries and vindictive activities of other Prem clubs (Southampton currently only latest ones to be throwing a tantrum) but the bile spite etc haven't just started with the Saudis its been going for a good few years now, coinciding with Ashleys rule actually, and not a little before that even.
No, there'll be a few more after Trippier who was a good start at 12 mill. But really as the feller above says anyone half decent is better than Ashley lumbered us with

Tbh if Trippier is the sort of signing you will regularly make this window then survival shouldn’t be a problem.

We need not just a new owner. We need an owner who is prepared to SPEND MONEY on class players

And we did quite spectacularly.
And starting to get up to speed this season too
I doubt we'll finish where we are at present (4th) still a bit early but 6th is where I think we'll finish the season.
Ranted and screamed at by usual suspects who spout hypocritical drivel but a growing number are intelligent enough to see through the press agenda and campaign against Newcastle for what it is. Whining by London based "journalists" who scream against PIF while praising Qatah - who are no different. Why ? Because of the "hospitality" they get and likely more than the obvious too. Money ? Theres clubs who spend the equivalent in real terms as Newcastle every year who are the worst ranters. Man U and Liverpool not to mention Everton and Villa - this "Bad if Newcastle do it, excellent if OUR teams do it" is wearing thin and more people are waking up to the hypocrisy. Klopps ranting about "ceilings" His centre half cost more than Newcastle's entire defence. And IT'S THE SAME FFP CEILING FOR BOTH CLUBS. Petulance is an understatement. Its like a tantrum throwing 5 year old because it's no longer all about him

Eddie Howe has done very well with a core group of players who were already at the club adding a bit of extra quality like Bruno and Trippier .
