Better team lost there.

Both sides looked nervous all game but I'm not sure that can fully be blamed for the complete lack of quality over the 120 minutes. Newport's set pieces and crossing caused Tranmere more problems than Tranmere's long balls to Norwood.

Because we are less shit than all the other shit teams.
And you conveniently played against 10 men each step of the way. Very ordinary side, even when you beat us 1-0 a point would have been fairer. Poor style of football, one clinincal player. You’ll be straight back down.

2 consecutive promotions is a great achievement. But it really flatters you.

Thank you Tranmere for keeping my acca going. Newport had a great season tbf, would imagine Flynn will be in demand.

Once he goes they're toast you'd think.

Agreed Newport should have been down to 8 and a stone wall pen for us first half but each to their miserable own. Tequila!

Can't imagine he'll stay there next season. Like every manager, if he stays in the same place too long he'll eventually be sacked. He can certainly continue to show Newport loyalty but it might be at the cost of his own career and for nothing if he ends up sacked.

Congrats to Mike Dean FC.
Mike Dean supports Tranmere? Why has nobody mentioned this before?

Congrats Tranmere. Bummer to lose a close away from the fans point of view. Be interesting to see how they do next season if Norwood leaves, hard to replace that kind of production. Best of luck to them.

They’ve just achieved back to back promotions so I doubt their fans give a shit right now whether they’ve been lucky or not.

There was a moment in the second half where a Newport player, with nobody within 5 yards of him, just decided to boot the ball up in the air. That was awful.

Norwood looked decent, so did Butler for Newport. I’d imagine Mike Flynn is probably on our shortlist in our search for a new manager, maybe this result changes things in that’s regard.

I'm sure any Plymouth, Bradford, Scunthorpe and Walsall fans watching that will either be greatly encouraged by the 'quality' needed to get out of this league or alternatively depressed as fuck knowing that's the 'quality' of football they've got to look forward to. Maybe a bit of both?

Pretty much everything went Tranmere's way in the play-offs but fair play, back-to-back promotions is some achievement. Micky Mellon doesn't seem to get the credit he deserves for some reason, although he seems like the sort of person who prefers to go under the radar (unlike Cowley, it has to be said). What's this, his fifth promotion?

Christ why can't people just be magnanimous.
Predicting relegation already is childish.
I'm sure Tranny be really bothered when playing Pompey, possibly Sunderland etc .

Selfishly I'm disappointed to lose Tranny and County as bring 2000 between them. Proper games with an edge to them.

Congratulations Tranny and great effort by Newport .

Fair play to them, they've done very well but I can't remember thinking previously how poor one of the promoted teams was.

They’ve got a 30 goal striker and that’s usually enough to get you up fair play. It’s small margins after all.

Coventry were guff whenever I saw them last year but have done ok this year.

Thanks all, I'll miss this bit of the forum (though I can't imagine it'll be too long before we see you again!). Not a great game, certainly for the neutral, but I definitely enjoyed that finish!

All the best Newport, superb fans and I hope you come up next year.

Given how lucky they were with the incorrect decisions on the red card and the wrongly given penalty at our game in Newport, Flynn can’t really argue about decisions going against him in the final.

Coventry had quality all over the pitch, they underperformed last season.

Congratulations Tranmere.

I think it was Napoleon who said he'd rather have a lucky general than a good one.

Fifth promotion in ten years as a manager, and the first back to back promotions in our history. He had money at Fleetwood and Shrewsbury, to an extent, but when you consider our budget this season was probably fifty percent of Lincoln's or Mansfield's, it is a remarkable achievement.
