I put this up on Twitter earlier:

As a percentage of their home crowd, @Wealdstone_FC have the fourth best away support at 11.92% in @TheVanaramaNL . Only Southend 17.28%, Grimsby 14.42% and surprisingly Dagenham 12.44% are higher. Bottom of the pile Eastleigh at 2.53%. Lge avg so far 8.67%.
Not surprised, our home gates have dropped considerably over the years we’ve been consistently losing from 1500 to about 1100 hardcore, our away support has stayed the same.

Has anyone noticed how steep train fares are these days compared to pre covid, barely a bargain to be had heading out of London to the anywhere so far this season. Only went Stockport as we went via Doncaster which was £30 cheaper than direct from Euston. Notts away end of month was coming up at £70 return use to get it for about £30. I would usually do 15-20 aways but can see that being only 10 this season, can’t stomach a coach.

Could Dover do a Histon at some point this season?

Yep, it's ridiculous. I posted about this a while back too. If you want a laugh, check out the first class prices for some of these trips. You're looking at more expensive tickets than to places like New York right now! I paid £95 for a day return to Torquay. Obscene amount of money. Booking in advance doesn't seem to really help that much either.

Check trains via Megabus. I got Chesterfield to St Pancras for £42 return on Sat, was £80+ on trainline. They go on sale fairly last minute but usually always a few trains at decent times.

Didn't even know what was a thing. Was that a train all the way there and back, then? Not train partway and Megabus the rest?

A good tip people might also not be aware is that if you go from London to East Midlands Parkway on the Megabus it's a train all the time.

You can do most places a lot cheaper if you know how to do some splitting and looking for weird combinations of tickets.

The randomness of the pricing is a disgrace, though. Both Grimsby and Altrincham recently were pretty much half the price for me splitting the ticket half way, exactly the same trains/journey.

Was the train all the way, just the usual one from Chesterfield to London with East Midlands Trains. It's been a good option for years if you don't have a railcard etc or want to travel fairly last minute.

What do you use to do this? Every time I try to do this it only ever knocks off somewhere in the region of 45p to a fiver.

There’s a few websites that do it pretty well, otherwise just years of doing it haha. It doesn’t work for everywhere, but some are ridiculous.

Altrincham recently, a standard return from Nottingham is £45. But a return to Stockport, where you have to change anyway, is just over £20, then the little local service to Alty was a couple of quid on the day.

Was looking at Eastleigh earlier - normal return is £80 from here. Series of split returns on the day and I can do it for about £40.

If you’ve ever got a specific one you’re looking at, drop me a PM and I’ll do some digging.

Ah nice cheers, I might well take you up on that at some point, most appreciated.

I've just done the same for Solihull.
Return to Birmingham was about £30, but Derbyshire Wayfarer to Burton and Burton/Birmingham return come out at a tenner.

499 Harrow at Portsmouth. Where on earth did they find 4 times their home support to travel down to the South Coast?

I was stunned when I saw how many of them were in the away end. They hardly ever get more than 150 at home and don't seem to be a huge part of the local community.

Friends and family plus some very loose support I can imagine has bumped it up. I mean fair play to them, I’d have been buzzing to be supporting the Stones at Fratton Park today.

Bit like the 874 Havant at Charlton that were there today - funny when they had around 100 at our place for a top of the table clash a couple of years ago.

Very surprising figures indeed, considering the total Saturday attendance of the current National League South is about 87.
