90,042 population Halifax... 200,000 in Calderdale yet Halifax Town get about 1,300 fans. That must be the worst % of population to attendances around. No other sports teams in Halifax either.

Do people in Halifax not like football?? Surely Huddersfield etc aren’t that big of a pull on the Halifax population. The Shay is a good ground too shame not many people turn up.

A town that size with limited competition should really be pulling in 5-6,000 at least. I know it’s a reformed club but even the original Halifax were the poorest supported FL side at the time.

Similar situation in Chester, large, fairly affluent place, poor attendances. No real competition on the doorstep. Yet they struggle for 2,000 fans.

What gives? Also sorry for going off topic.

Manchester is 40 miles away and Liverpool is 20 miles. Not doorstep by my definition. And you can’t be seriously suggesting Wrexham have many fans in Chester nor Tranmere....

Take my club Bury. 6 miles north of Manchester, 5 miles east of Bolton, 10 miles south of Blackburn etc etc the list could go on. 70,000 population and get about 3,000-4,000 on average per season. Not great, but then Bury and similar clubs such as Rochdale and Oldham have a monumental task trying to get fans through the gate due to their geographic location as suburbs of Manchester.

Chester do not have this issue, nor do Halifax, to the same extent. Both towns populations are bigger than that of Bury, Chester is larger than towns such as Preston and Burnley... so what gives??

It’s not. But why can clubs from towns with smaller populations than both Halifax and Chester, and much more intense local competition, get more through the gate?

Chester have quite favourable conditions for a decent fanbase, yet they don’t have one. Same for Halifax.

Even if we were promoted i doubt we'd average anywhere near 2,000 home fans in League 2. Sad to say but just the way it is.

But I must say if we don't get 2,000+ on Saturday I will be disappointed.

Let me answer this. Bradford and Huddersfield both have ridiculous offers on their season tickets which makes it far cheaper to go watch a premier league/ league one team than it does to watch a team doing shit in the conference. Also, our club are notoriously shit at promoting the club, bringing new fans in, and just in general do not interact with the local community. We get Huddersfield coming over to our local schools giving kids free tickets etc and promoting in and around Halifax. Given that it is then cheaper for the parents to take them to watch a decent standard of football, it is just a no brainer for them.

Bradford were offering £100 season tickets the season we were in League Two with them, they averaged something like 14,000 a week back then. At this point Halifax had folded and started a new club so it's not much of a surprise locals could be easily swayed to go elsewhere.

20 miles is nothing. Surrey is full of Man United fans 300 miles from Manchester.
