On a seperate note after our dreadful defence has now gone five hours without conceding after only keeping two clean sheets all season (one of them against ten men) we need to get Inniss signed until the end of the season! Wasn't his best game today since joining but again anything in the air he had for lunch. If only we'd had him since the start!

Good win at a place we never seem to get much at. We deserved the win on our defending alone. Neal didn't have to make more than 1 big save, the rest were easy. Notts should have had a red card for the push in the face of Neal but the ref bottled it, Pope was wrongfully given offside 3 times where he could have gone on to score. Clean sheet again was very very pleasing.:woot:

The referee was a clown! Booked three of our players and two of theirs yet not the deserved red for their lad. The Dodds penalty claim Id like to see again seemed a clear arm in the back.

The clean sheets are a plus, we struggled when they ran at us through the middle but in the main luckily they were pants and Neal hadn't a great deal to do. It's giving us a solid base to build on, I'd still take comfortably safe but why not live the play off dream whilst it's still there to be taken.

That ref was the same ref we had when we played Notts at Medow Lane last season and didn't give us a nailed on pen we should have had.

Drysdale is just appalling - no idea how he keeps getting a gig. Clear penalty for us second half with the handball.

As for the game; I genuinely think being a notts fan must be one of life's most depressing experiences. At least McCourt's performance offers some hope for the rest of the season

I was surprised when he didn't give the pen for the handball it looked nailed on, but it looked a foul on Dodds as well. He just seemed to be a ref that never makes a big decision, loads of fouls in the middle of the park but waved away any big calls.

I agree i thought it was a peno for handball but as you said marc it was a nailed on pen for the foul on Dodds, Dodds is not that kind of player that goes down for no reason.

Refs literally never give penalties for arms in the back in fairness - they do for clear handballs though. That 'melee' was weird, could have easily booked 5 or just not booked any and not wasted about 6 minutes in the process - I know which one I'd have preferred.

Not sure about the praise for your defending...they allowed an awful lot of easy chances in the box for a team that supposedly 'deserved to win for the defending'. Thompson's 2 misses will haunt me forever, a striker unwilling to shoot with his weaker foot from less than 6 yards out is not one I want at my football club. Both were absolute tap-ins with his left-foot and he's tried to bizarrely like shovel/flick at both with his right - twat.

Our luck was apparent with JCR's chance too, straight under the keeper's body and it's barely caught his right buttcheek, and it stops rolling dead on the line.

We have kept 3 clean sheets in a row and thats a record for us as we have been dire defending all season. I expected more from JCR, thought he was more huff n puff. He was better for Utd at our place.

He was good in the first half - just couldn't cross and then in the second reverted to running around in circles and killing attacks. We should've just given it to McCourt every time we got it, he was in a different league to anything else on the pitch. It was harrowing watching him beat 3 players whilst the rest of our team stood still watching. I don't mind Bajner in general but his movement is fucking atrocious, he doesn't seem to know where he's supposed to be half the time. Garry Thompson is just fucking horrific though. I don't give a shit that he scores a screamer every now and then, a striker can't get away with missing the amount of easy chances he does, I dread to think how many points he's cost us in the last month or so.

I thought he was poor for United and meh today, Marshall kept him busy running back, he is hit and miss hence why he's in league one similar to Marshy and Moore for example. Last season Dicko was ridiculously exposed by Jeno who just didn't track back ever whereas the wingers we have do so.

County will moan they missed chances but Willo had a couple he pissed about with and one headed from virtually under the bar when Pope was about to knod home the second. I was never particularly nervous that County would equalise bar the little spell just before half time which considering I usually clock watching when we are ahead says a lot. We didn't defend overly great at times but between them they got through it and considering that's only our second clean sheet away in a victory in 15 months (the other being a fortnight ago) it's certainly progression. Five hours without a goal against, when we never usually last 50 minutes between goals conceded!

Decent couple of pints in the Canal Pub before the game too so all in all a decent day.

Comfortable win in the end against a team in freefall. Didn,t play too well but didn,t have to, never really felt in danger , the stocky midfielder for them with gloves on ( Thompson ) was hideous he couldn,t pass wind and we had a lot of possesion. Derry's summary of 'we should of been out of sight at half time ' ,, what is that all about? Inness has been immense for a 19 year old. I think we should aim to beat last seasons points tally and would consider that as decent progress.

Well if you have two absolute donkeys up front and haven't the quality to take those chances it's irrelevant. We should of had six or seven at VP so over the two games the points haul probably reflects correctly.

I thought we were poor yesterday but still created enough to think that we should've gotten something out of the game at least. Personally thought Vale were probably the weakest team we've played at home in ages, but that's all you need to beat us there so whatever, i'd be delighted with that win if it was us.

To be fair it was the weakest of the three performances in our run (we destroyed Doncaster and eased to three points at Walsall with very little problems) but that's the difference Page has instilled that Adams couldn't in that we can get results playing ugly ala Peterborough at home, Dale at home and the draw against Bradford.

With Byron Moore who was quality again yesterday and O'Connor in form were always going to get the chance to score but I'd expect if Notts had equalised we wouldn't have sat back so much and came out to get back in front as we did as the game entered the final 20 minutes when we should of put itmto bed, we finished the game very strong but I was disappointed we sat off too much but we got the result so can grumble too much, my only change would have been Dodds in behind Pope who gives us more in midfield, especially as like the game last season Willo couldn't hit a barn door!

Loved the purple kit too!

Melee incident was a joke

Mullins should have been sent off, shame Marshall couldn't convert from the little shits backpass in the 2nd half

Neal should of rolled around holding his face rather than react and he might have walked. The referee lost control and started waving cards like confetti without dealing with the incident itself. There wasn't a booking in the whole game other than that incident.

I was pissing myself at Drysdale repeatedly blowing his whistle during the incident. As if that'll do anything you card.

Neal, Innis, Moore & Marshall were great.

Both teams had stages of pressure. Notts County probably had a few more, as you'd expect with them being at home.

I think we were just making attacks mainly on the break in the second half. If the final pass had been better and the finishing more clinical, we could have had another goal possibly making it more comfortable.

McCourt looked tasty for Notts. Good signing that.

Byron Moore is like a new signing for us, what has shocked me is his work rate and tracking back something i didn,t think he would have in his locker, after his family problems it,s great to see he can finally move forward and start showing what he can do. McCourt did look decent and Campbell-Ryce is good despite not doing much yesterday, really surprised Sheff Utd let him go it,s not like he hasn,t been in their team.

Fucking hell, I thought you were supposed to be the normal Vale fan on here...

Moore wasn't very good at all yesterday, no idea where that's come from. Marshall was though.

Moore was quality hence the press up Vale gave him man of the match over Neal. Set up the goal, tracked back, set up the cross that your lad had to head wide from a yard out with Pope ready to pounce. Best player for us.

Moore was very good. He battled, won the ball, turned and put a smart cross in towards Williamson for the goal.

He will be crucial over the next two months along with Marshall.

The press saw Moore as having a good game as did the Vale fans there. Involved in our key moments and although Notts fans probably wouldn't have paid attention his tracking back was invaluable. Barely any threat came from Notts left hand side where Moore was working hard with Veseli. Probably our strongest area on the pitch yesterday.

That's because we literally didn't play with a left-winger...There wouldn't have been a threat if I played right-back for Vale.

I don't rate Moore's performances as much as a lot of Vale fans do, but then I like a winger to take on his man and get crosses in but he prefers to cut inside and then pass to somebody else.
