Chris Malkin , that’s him . Good player but he had Tranmere’s great golden chance in the film and made a bizarre decision and produced a tame effort.

Around that time I really rated Tranmere, both Bristol Clubs and Oldham . Oldham away on the plastic pitch always seemed to be midweek and so tough .

This old days reminiscing is such a better football world to live in

Looks like this will be played in horrendous conditions. Which Tranny first teamers are out?

I’ll add my pen’ath to the nostalgia, we had a fantastic team then but then so did Tranmere. I remember listening on the radio when we met late on in the season in a huge promotion 6 pointer (night game?). Tranmere ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a Chris Malkin brace in front of almost 10k at Prenton Park but luckily we had the last laugh!
I was at both those games. Although we did not go up, we played some of our best football ever in the 1989-90 season.

Chances of being called off? It's supposed to rain from 1pm following periods of sleet. Heavy rain from 2 for the whole game.
IMO it should be OK, we are susceptible to frozen pitches due to the trent but the pitch holds up quite well with rain.
If it starts earlier maybe 10 then we could have a problem if it's heavy.
Its tricky due to the distance you guys have to travel so an inspection will have to be made at 11am id imagine.

We play Tottenham if we beat Southport.

Worth anywhere between 300k-750k just for playing them. It’s on TV, will be a big gate and they waived their TV and gate receipts for Newport last year.

Put your reserves out, should be enough for a solid point at least.

We’ve sold 600+ so not a bad following considering the games we have coming up, hard to make a prediction on the result all depends on mindset ahead of Monday

Update on the weather. Now sleet until 4pm but temperatures not expected to rise above 1C until the rain has kicked in.

Add to that we are next to the Trent which will give a feel of -2C...

Also an Amber warning for ice in the region so the roads could be nasty. Does seem that we will be slightly better off than the north west so swings and roundabouts!

Best check twitter/FB just in case but I'd say should be OK but need your thermals on!!

I hope the game goes ahead even with us not quite being a red hot run of form recently and needing extra time for recovery to injured players. Need to get some games under Ardley after we got the Nottinghamshire defeat sorry derby out of the way.

We’ve rested our back four but pretty much full strength in midfield and upfront besides the injured Ollie Banks.

What is the point in us even playing defenders away from home.

3rd best away attack in the league and we still have a negative away goal difference.

Surprised MM changed things at the back so much.

Third game in a row we score two away from home and lose... we need some new full backs. I can't feel my fingers or feet, that was baltic.

We need 3 goals to win any game which is a concern. Still shipping them in , but relieved with the win and looking forward to the honest match reports from all in attendance.

Vanni must be quids in , he nailed it. How much you win?

Battling win in horrendous conditions, not really the kind of thing this team has been doing all season. Happy with that.

We just about deserved the win but blimey, we are very brittle and short of confidence.
stead and Hemmings makes a massive difference up front, Thomas , who I'm not a fan of , had his best game for us and Keston Davies broke a lot of play up.
Dan Jones is a bit of a liability but with no actual competition he has to play.

Norwood did a great job of leading the line for Tranmere and the sub, blonde lad looked pretty lively.
We competed today, during the bouts of head tennis more often than not when it dropped we came away with the ball which hasn't been the case all season.
We also played much narrower rather than two wingers making us more compact and harder to break down. Still a way to go on that , but Ardley has seen what needs to be done.

Today was all about 3 points . Plenty of bumps in the road ahead because we are a currently spluttering unreliable old banger but the bandwagon has begun in Ardley’s first home game . He’s our only hope I’m fully on board

I did not think Notts deserved to win the game, to be honest, but we can have no complaints about the result with the manner that we gave the goals away. The second and third goals were absolute gifts and both our full backs were terrible.

We have been poor away from home all season, but today we rested the entire back four with predictable results.

A pity, because we were well in the ascendancy at 2-2 prior to the penalty incident.

Just over 6500 in attendance is a fantastic effort from both sets of fans especially with the awful weather forecast

I thought a draw probably would’ve been fair. There wasn’t actually that many chances in it for a game that finished 3-2, and all five goals were more of a result of terrible defending than good attacking. The penalty was particularly bad - could see from a mile off that Thomas was going to cut back and play for it, no idea why he went lunging in.

Don't like Hemmings getting on the scoresheet for the first time in ages (?) the week before we host Notts. Has he been playing often? I kind of forgot he was there, haven't been paying attention but don't recall seeing anything about him or remember him scoring for months.

He’s been injured along with Stead for quite a while hence why you’ve heard next to nothing. Before that he’s been pretty good in a clearly poorly performing side . Made a huge difference those two yesterday .

Away from home is a different proposition and out defensive frailties which don’t look like changing any time soon will once again raise their ugly head . Would snap your hand off for a point at BP with Grimsby in better form

All I want for Christmas is a new set of fullbacks and another centre mid. Is that too much to ask for? :hail:

Pretty much exactly what we need most :mell:
Difference being you’ve already spent double what we have.

Interesting to see whether we just accept a mid table finish or spend a bit as we clearly having nothing after our best 11.

We’ve spent at least double almost everyone lol. It’s very strange if Tranmere had come into town this time last season, it would of been a comfortable home win no doubt. We spend truck loads in the off season to add to the squad, change managers twice and we are a shambles this season.

That’s football, huge 3 points potentially

It’s a transitional season for us with a lot of players that are top end national league / bottom end league two players who won’t be here next year.

We’ll be much more competitive next year, but after our good start, if we fade into midtable obscurity that’d be underwhelming.

I think we're a few astute January signings away from maintaining a serious play off push at present. Monday's game for an extra hundred grand or so is huge to us for that reason
