hi gang...i just wanted to get feedback on a well intentioned post from one of our own...


Good morning Oakie,

Firstly I’d like to thank you for running the Prediction Competition once again this season.

Running a competition of my own I know how much work you put into it. So, therefore my appreciation and congratulations to you.

It is just a shame that the number of Predictas has considerably dropped from just a few years ago.

I suspect that might go back to when the website was a nightmare and nobody could log in. Prior to that you had League Tables of Predictas and every match had its own thread.

The one thing that you have done this weekend is seemingly ended competition by declaring Chris winner. I would have liked to have carried on till final game of season, which is norm for most other prediction competitions. Reason is that it offers me another chance to check out our opposition for coming games.

BTW why don’t you enter your own team’s forecasts? The more the merrier I say.

And I’ve just read message for Admin concerning upcoming Euro competition. I’m sure it is a round robin so good luck with adding plenty of Predictas to the summer competition. This time I’ll make sure I read the rules properly before placing my forecasts



On another serious point [and please I don’t want to upset you] but after six years with same format I believe it should be updated and brought more in line with traditional prediction competitions.

[1] Get rid of ‘Missed’ column. I find it slightly offensive as a ‘name and shame’ tactic and a deterrent to others for joining competition. This season nearly everybody missed a game or two for various reasons. Last season I missed a few games because I could not log into site. If a Predicta misses a forecast – so what!? Just don’t add his name to that week’s update but bring it back the next time they enter a forecast. There might be legitimate reason for them to miss a forecast or two, such as illnesses. Therefore I say keep everybody’s name alive throughout season.

[2] The scoring is perhaps over complicated and negative. Six out of seven Predictas have a minus score!

Can I suggest you adopt scoring used by others including FGR where we ask for result and score:

5 points for correct WDL forecast,

10 points for correct forecast using Joker,

Zero points for incorrect forecast,

Minus 5 points for incorrect forecast using Joker,

3 extra points for predicting perfect score.

There is no minus score for missed forecast.

[3] On Saturday night print off the entire list of forthcoming games. That might encourage others to join competition throughout the season.

[4] Best remove Columns ‘Games’ ‘Missed’ ‘Correct’ and ‘%’. We have previously spoken about % and I still think it is not needed, just a straight total point’s Column would suffice. The other Columns are surplus.



Oakie, please don’t think I’m being negative towards your competition, I mean well. You are doing a better than splendid job and I sincerely hope you continue doing so for many years to come.

Tbf I get the thing about kicking out people if they’re ill or the site crashes seems a bit harsh, but you do get timewasters that take the piss as well so get why you do it.
Definitely think you should keep minus score for missed games gives an incentive to people to not forget.

Points system is fine imo, something different to other prediction leagues,

So each game day folk can gain a maximum of 12 points by predicting each winner or drawn matches and get a point for each correct result. If people miss predicting then they just get nil points which is enough a penalty.

Firstly Chris my congratulations to you on winning 2020/21 competition. Well done.
But I disagree with some of your reply.

This season there were just 13 guys at start of competition but that dropped by almost half to seven.
I’ve been playing Fantasy Football and Predict the Score for many decades and know that the dropout rate is about a third. To lose nearly half, as this competition has, is unheard of.
There are 48 teams in EFL 1 & 2 that this competition includes, so that means 41 teams are not represented.
Therefore a fundamental review of the completion is warranted.

I thought the winner was declared a bit prematurely, what if he goes into Liquidation before the season ends, or those claims of Match Fixing by FGR fans are found to be true?

There is some merit in your suggestion, although it would have to be run separately from Oakie's competition.
What you are suggesting is more akin to the old Pools competitions which some clubs run.

Some fans hate predicting their own team's results so may prefer that type of competition. My mate won't enter a forecast in case it puts in a kybosh to an expected win and cannot bring himself around to forecast a loss.
He is brilliant at forecasting other team's results.
