Predicting Villa to win their next 4 after only winning 4 of their last 51. Optimism is the opium of the people.

6 games, 6 wins, 4 clean sheets, 17 goals scored, 2 conceded.

Largely more successful than I thought it'd be.

Yeah alright mate, no need to rub it in.

It's like a millionaire, fit bird on his arm, entourage in tow, walking past a tramp, laughing whilst waving a plane ticket to Barbados in his face.

Hardly. Was more referencing my pessimism at the start of the month in a previous post claiming I'd take draws in this and draws in that.

Yeah.. It's Newcastle...

With the squad you have I'd be more concerned if you didn't win 6 out of 6.

10pts from Villa, Brighton, Huddersfield, Norwich and Newcastle.

We'll lose to Rotherham in our next game now, absolutely nailed on.

We usually hit our stride in November, but we've been unconvincing of late. If we get less than 6 points I think we'll have sold ourselves short.

Leeds (H) - New manager buzz, 2-1 WIN.

Brentford (H) - Score draw I reckon, DRAW.

Huddersfield (A) - Tough couple of last games, doubt we'll be up to this yet. LOSE.

Sheffield Wednesday (H) - Draw again. DRAW.

5/12 is hardly inspiring but it's where we're at.

7 out of 12 is a very good return considering the opposition played and the rut we were in previous to "McClown". More than doubling our goals and points tally for the season, happy with that.

Yeah you're right there's no point in anyone else turning up. To be honest if we don't win all of our remaining games you can consider me out. Zzzzzz

Don't take it personally.

Your squad on paper is packed with solid Premier League players, and hand picked the best players in the Championship. On player talent alone it's astounding that you were relegated in the first place. You also have a manager who has won the Champions League and was at Real Madrid 12 months ago ffs.

Just saying but a squad of your ability, it's no surprise to win 6/6... it is what is expected of you tbh.

Well we're shite, but new manager could (should) change things up...

PNE (a) - LOST, the end of RDM.
Wolves (h) - Seem to have dropped off, and we should have the new man in by then, we are so far (amazingly) unbeaten at home, though have only won one... Gonna count on the honeymood period here and say 2-1 Villa, we always tend to pull it out of the bag Vs Wolves. - WIN
Reading (a) - One of the form teams in the league, but we always seem to do well against Reading. If the new man isn't in for Wolves, he certainly should be for Reading. Can we finally win away from home? Fuck it, let's be positive for a change. 1-0. - WIN
Fulham (h) - Had them down to drop before the season started, and I've seen nothing to change my mind yet. Easy win to us, 3-0. - WIN
Small Heath (a) - They're going to be well up for this, especially if Bruce is our manager, but Bruce will also want to get one over his old team whilst in charge of their rivals, and to get our season well and truly up and running I reckon we'll win here too. 2-1. - WIN

Heh, never thought I'd be this positive, especially since we're playing some teams who've had good runs so far, but I feel it's about time we kick started our season, and I believe the new manager will help with that.

Don't worry, the usual pessimism will be resumed when Wolves beat us.

Well not quite as good as I predicted, but 8 points from 12 considering we'd managed 10 from a possible 33 previously (this season, I am NOT working out the ones previous  ) can't be sniffed at. Onwards and upwards.

Less than 34% possession against Reading and Fulham and managed to scrape a win. Second best against Wolves and Blues and stole a point in both. Could and should had been 2 points from that last four... the fine margins in football.

And under Di Matteo we had the majority of possession most games. Possession means fuck all, what you do with the ball matters. Fulham and Reading we did well and got the wins, Wolves I'll give you, how we escaped that game without losing is beyond me, I wouldn't call us 2nd best against your lot. First half we shaded it, 2nd you were the better team.

Our team is not built for a possession game, how the hell can you expect to have more possession when your midfield options consist of Tshibola who is decent but injured every 5 minutes, Gardner who is shit, Jedinak who plays like he's 80, Westwood who couldn't pass forward if his life depended on it, and Bacuna who doesn't know what his best position is?

Bruce has identified that and decided to have us play a counter attacking style where we get it forward ASAP and are better without the ball. If you'd watched us play, you'd know that. I'd rather have 34% possession and actually do something with it than have 61% possession and lose 2-0, never looking like scoring as we did at Preston. :dk:

Dominated possession, more attempts on goal and created the better chances.

Notably the two from Donaldson and Maghoma’s one-on-one with Gollini. Villa struggled to get out of their own half for the majority of that second half. You was fortunate to get a point in the end.

For what it's worth, I watched that game on TV and thought Birmingham were easily the better team.

In the second half yes, first half other than the Donaldson chance they didn't offer much at all.

Neither did Villa bar the goal.

Shading a gash first half and getting dominated in the second half would suggest being second best to me, but ho hum.

I'm still amazed this didn't come to fruition.
