With the NL fixture list coming out on Wednesday, time to look ahead to the first game of the new season.
Personally, I'm away for the opening weekend,so would prefer to start with an away trip of some distance, perhaps an Aldershot, Boreham Wood or Maidstone [given it's going to be near impossible to get tickets for that]. If it has to be at home would want to avoid any of the promoted sides as the chance of an upset is high on last season's evidence.

Wonder if any of the openers will be televised this time around.

I really hope we get nobody in this league as that would mean the last 2 months have all been a dream and we actually lost to Braintree in the Semi.

When do they announce the TV game for the 1st weekend?

Inclined to think us, York or Tranmere will be on dependent on who we get opening day.

They'll probably have a game like York v Solihull on the opening day for TV.

Gateshead away, or maybe Barrow, get the longest trips out of the way at the start of the season.

Edit: I half expect it to be Dover, then we would have played them in four out of five competitive games, if you include the end of last season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Maidstone get a live game near the start of the season, if not the first game, would be good if it is against someone like Tranmere or Wrexham.

One of the trips out west - Truro, Bath, Weston or Poole.

Would like to play Wrexham away, and for it to be on TV.

The way Mills likes to play up against our new free flowing attacking football with both sides having a number of new players meaning they might be quite open at the back, could well make it a classic. Could see us scoring quite a few and letting a couple in. The kind of game BT needs as far too many were turgid hoof fests last season.

Either that or get Gateshead or Barrow away out of the way nice and early.

Not overly fussed, most teams in this division have an excitement level for me

Yep I'd like to play any of the pre-season favourites, if only to compare our team to them.
But I hope it is not the same as last season when FGR's first and last games were both away.
And also for the sake of all our teams, lets hope the guy doing the fixtures this time gets it right. We all played four teams home and away before Xmas while there were four teams we still had to meet.
I also hope the fixtures are kinder to us during the winter months. We seemed to be playing away up north every weekend during February.

Would rather not, it'll sell out anyway and I'd rather keep the bigger supported sides for later in the season.

Don't care. Why anyone is excited about finding out what Non-League side they get to play is beyond me.

People are excited about seeing their team start a new season. Given that this is a non-league division, it's quite likely that the first league match will be against a non-league side.

And Woking have been non-league for 126 years of your 126 year history. And everyone is excited about playing you. Especially this season.

It's not a given there will be a televised opener. Think Rovers v Woking was mooted last year, but as the game would have to be switched, most probably to a Friday night or Saturday morning it didn't happen.

With the ground developments at Maidstone reducing numbers, there is some merit in getting one of their games televised early on.

It is probably because there are some supporters of teams in non league that have not already written their season off like you appear to have done.

No, I just don't care. There was a time when going to Lincoln and winning was fun but now it's just boring. It doesn't matter to me whether we win there in August or April.

Yes please especially if you still only have 6 players:brill:
Have heard that Nicky has been working his backside off to get some bodies in. Expecting several signings very soon. Also expecting a crazy start to preseason. Trialist scores from a cross by trialist etc.

That can definitely be very confusing. The MTFC twitter account gave us this genius piece of commentary last season:

64 | Great work between Trialist and Trialist who plays in Trialist down the right, his ball in just misses Trialist. Still 3-0.

What, direct long ball to the big man? Because that's his thing these days. And seeing as he'd be up against a historical hoofball enthusiast like Cooper, I don't see this being a game anyone wants to watch to be honest.

I wanted a home game on the Saturday because I struggle for midweek games, but I'm at a charity do on the Saturday evening so I'll probably not get to either!

I think our fans are still smarting from last year's home game bore-fest. I'd rather pick up a bit of momentum before playing the bigger games such as Chester and Wrexham, if only to give the club a bit of time to get the fans on-side.

So, in short, I'm not really bothered who we get on day one.

We'll have more new players than existing so have no clue how we will compare. A home game would be good, other than that not bothered who we play.
