I see Mansfield and Mal Benning are moving on from each other. Especially if we part ways with Monty which I think might happen he is someone I wouldn’t mind us giving a serious look at.

Been linked due to the Flitcroft connection. Would fit perfectly for us i would think and one a lot of our fans wanted us to target this summer on OVF.

Would probably mean the end for Monty unless using him as a winger next season, although guess get rid of Fitz and could keep both.

I think just reading between the lines a little I'm not sure DC is convinced by Monty primarily because of his injury record where he flat out questioned it on a couple of occasions. He did also if I remember rightly release him from Bristol Rovers when he was there so maybe the writing is on the wall with him. Monty to be fair is a different player to when we first signed him though, as DC himself said he never in a million years would have thought he could ever play leftback.

Fitz I feel bad for as he has been more than passable whenever called upon and while I think he is gone a lot of clubs could do worse than him.

Definitely be pleased if FGR's Godwin-Malife turned up at Crawley. He won't but he did impress me.

Casey
FGR supporters have been mightily impressed with Udoka G-M's progress this season.
He is a leading candidate for PoS.
I think inevitable he will go in Summer. We know other clubs are taking a keen interest in him.

I like Mal and I get the impression that he is a solid professional and reliable person on the whole. However, I think he has stayed with us for too long and should be looking at League One before Port Vale in order to prove himself at a higher level. I always thought there was some hunger missing from his defending caused by him being fully established and having no reliable competitors for his position. For example, there were a few times in the lower west where I was in line with where he was defending and in my opinion he wasn't determined enough stopping crosses into the box.

I think the issue with Monty at Bristol Rovers was that he was in competition with Byron Moore who still had another year on his contract when Monty's was ending.
DC never played him as a LB or LWB though

It was Aspin that tried him there and he’s been a decent left back due to his pace etc. I love Monty but it’s just that injury record which may cost him.

I'd rather keep monty as a lb or lwb as I'd prefer 30 games A season out of him than 30 games out of fitzpatrick.

If we stick with 3-5-2 definitely, I thought Fitz was ok but he’s more defensive so not ideal as a wing back.

Hopefully Clarke takes some of the dross he signed for us off our hands this summer can see him wanting a couple of them possibly James Clarke Josh Gordon and Liam Roberts.Rory Holden is under contract and would command a decent fee if he wanted him.

James Perch contract been extended, and we want to keep Stephen Quinn, I think both are around 35 but have both done a good job under Clough and he’s said we need to add experience if anything.

Sir Mal Benning and the club ‘mutually agreed’ to part ways, best of luck to him and I think it will do him good, he’s a good player and will always be well received at Field Mill. I agree with Stringy that it’s a little bit overdue for both the club and himself and I think he should aim for L1 too.

From what I gather Flitcroft is more involved in the recruitment side.

Just seen our out of contract players, so here's my personal view:

Goalkeepers:
Scott Flinders - Expect him to be offered a deal and be next season's number 1, assuming he's fully over his injuries.
Max Harris - Sub keeper, will be offered a deal but doubt he'll play even if Flinders gets injured.

Defenders:
Dan Bowry - Will be let go - has never broken through or even come close to
Sean Long - Will be offered a deal, absolutely no doubt about it.
Lewis Freestone - Will also be offered a deal

Midfielders:
Chris Clements - Probably the toughest to guage. Was brilliant before his season ending injury, but unsure if he'll make the step up.
Matty Blair - Will be amazed if he isn't offered a deal
Tom Chamberlain - Youth player who may be given another year, but wouldn't be surprised if he was let go

Forwards:
Alex Addai - Has fallen out of favour and gone out on loan a few times this season - he'll be off.
Tahvon Campbell - Never really broke through and will also be let go.

Matt Dolan has signed a 2 year extension to his current deal.

In our fan forum last night, Mark Palios said the club wouldn't be offering any new deals now until the season ends, to avoid causing unrest in the dressing-room.

That makes perfect sense as currently he doesn't know which division you will be playing in next season, it would be a bit daft trying to work out the squad requirements in terms of numbers and quality before that is confirmed. I suspect that there will be other clubs where that has already been made clear, perhaps in private to the players and management, if not publicly.

Now you're in a higher division then us again, are there any promising youngsters/squad players you might be loaning to us next season?

On the major plus side we seem to have come through this pandemic very well financially. Thats what happens when you have intelligent sensible people running your club.
We know we will still have a club to support in the future, no doubt with a frustrating team on the pitch.

Looks like from what DC said in his press conference yesterday that our retained list will be done by the middle of the week after the last game against Mansfield. Can’t imagine at this point much will happen to change his mind though it’s a tough balancing act of how much does this current form weigh up against when we were struggling with the same group of players.

That would be a first

No it wouldn't, we used to get players on loan from Cheltenham. I remember the likes of Josh Low, Ben Cleverley, Michael Whittington and Michael Taylor for example. In fact it was only 11 years ago that even our player/assistant manager Jerry Gill was on loan from them.
