Yeah I've been eating a lot of stuff out of date the past four days, and my tea tomorrow will be something three days out by then. Doesn't bother me.

I had some 'use by 26 Dec' coleslaw yesterday. Bit queazy and farting like a good 'un. Got a whole brie that's not been touched which is out of date tomorrow. Can I make some sort of Linda McCartney knit-your-own-yoghurt, gay-whales-against-the-bomb, fucking Liberal Democrat, stew out of it?

The one thing I most definitely will NOT touch if it is 'out of date' is milk....absolutely no way!

As in the smell? Or just some anal reaction to the actual date?

I once reheated a paella with prawns and it very nearly killed me.

Going a few days after the best before is fine but when it comes to anything containing milk or dairy it's a risky one. I still have flashbacks to the time as a teenager when there was a carton of opened chocolate milkshake in my fridge that I opened up and guzzled one morning. It was only when the lumps of curdled milk passed down my throat did I realise that it had gone off. Rank.

I'm having some 2 month old pork chops for tea tonight, reduced to clear so bunged them in the freezer. Hopefully I'll survive.

I love a good reduski. It's hard for me to find the time to get them in but it's always worthwhile having a gander when I'm at the supermarket.

Most yoghurt is fine weeks after the sell by date, as is cheese, as long as you cut the mould off. The only risky dairy product is milk.

smell or no smell, with milk if it's past the date then it's a big GTF....

Agree on the milk. I noticed someone mentioned reheated prawns. Always a tricky one with seafood. Mussels is another one you have to be careful with.

Reheating seafood? My word Clive.
Never thought about it at the time. It hit me within 2 hours. Like someone had turned a tap on in me arse while hurling at the same time.

Became very dehydrated and got put on a drip.

Aye be careful with seafood and milk. The rest though will be fine for at least 5 days if it smells and looks fine.

I thought you can re heat prawns. I buy cooked ones and then re heat them in a stir fry or whatever, if they do not have the raw ones.

I love a bit of out of date food. The girlfriend is more cautious, but as above if it looks and smells fine, then it is fine. Normally.

Had no problems reheating prawns. Had a king prawn curry many a time where I've reheated it the next night, and it was fucking deelish still.

Being a veggie i have no worries about eating out of date food unless it's changed colour or stinks. With the rest of you on milk though.

It's not great, was having this discussion with a housemate yesterday, you don't strike me as a Malaysian 21 year old so don't think it was you?

Anyway, guidelines will say you shouldn't, I do but only if it was made the previous night. You've gotta cool it down fast and get it in the fridge and make sure it's very hot when you reheat it. It's due to a type of organism that grows on rice (forgotten it's name) that reheating won't kill.

You can you just need to cool it down really quickly after cooking and then put it into the fridge as soon as possible. Probably not recommended for take away rice though.

Edit: what blade said.
