Genuine question, can OUFC ever maintain success as long as Kassam owns the ground?

Short term looks OK for Oxford, put together a decent squad, could well be in the play off mix come May, but what's the mood like in terms of long term? Is there any sort of light at the tunnel in terms of Kassam sodding off?

Big Bird.

What's success for clubs like us? Yes, we could get to the Championship. But staying there?

Both clubs are limited by their stadiums and the financial gulf is now vast. Be great to get there again, though.

Agree 100% Dan. We'd never be able to maintain Championship football without redevelopment or a new stadium. It's basically a Premiership 2.

However while our hope is slim surely it's non existent at Oxford with Kassam owning the ground for as long as he wants.

Apparently a cool half million per year in rent. Why would he give that cash cow up?

On a pure rivalry angle I obviously wouldn't want Oxford to go anywhere but down, but it would be good if a 'normal', financially average club could manage it.

I think the days of L1 and L2 clubs being attached to the 2 higher leagues could well be numbered.

I'm not at all ITK but I believe an ex chairman signed a long term contract which will shortly be expiring. Say in 1-2 years.

That'd probably represent our best opportunity to get shot of the ground, which no OUFC fan has love for, or else to pay something sensible.

There's all sorts of rumours about a potential site in North Oxford but I think you'd be very lucky if you read one that was in any way reliable.

As for the 5 in a row thing - promotion is obviously better. No one is denying it. No one ever did. But now we have caught up with you anyway and we are enjoying L1 together, and it is hugely satisfying to be celebrating at the ground while you and your muggy mates cry about it.

It might not have the after party, or the reward of a higher division, and it might be less of an achievenent. However I bloody love the derbies and I pity anyone who is too lost in football-hipsterness or delusion to not enjoy them as much as me. Great atmosphere, sell out crowds, two teams absolutely going for it and a lot of wanky red shirts crying about defeat - absolutely everything that football should be.

No, it's not sustainable with ka$$am owning the ground, but things are happening on that front. We have the best chairman we've had in my long lifetime and I am privy to certain things and for the first time since that bastard got hold of our club we may soon be rid of him. It's because of ka$$am that we ended up in the conference, the bloke is a cancer on the club and has raped us over a number of years. When he arrived we were top half of the Championship, when he left we were weeks from the Conference. And despite all of this, we refused to die and are now on the up again. If and when we sort the ground out, watch us fly.

As for Saturday, I think you Swindon lot are running scared and putting all sorts of spin on our recent record against you. Do I want to beat you more than going up? At 5pm Saturday evening only one of those will matter!

Nobodys running scared Eric.

Of course we don't want #6inarow popping up all over the place but we're more than capable of dominating the midfield on Saturday and coming home with the points.

Whether we do or not remains to be seen.

It's good to have you fuckers back in some ways. Can't wait for the game.

All we hear from you lot is 'the players are still gelling'. Excuses in early sounds like!

Our side has the same number of new players in the team, 2-3 injuries etc. Still think we'll turn you over quite easily.

So, does that mean that out of 50 games we've only lost 10.

10? Fucking only 10?

Well, whoda thunk dat.

Are you sure? Just checking mind - 10 you say?

On this thread, you have brought this subject up more than all Oxford fans combined. You are truly a bizarre man, sat in a room arguing with yourself.

Last twenty years = 9 Wins 5 Losses

Last five games = You lot being over confident every time and us winning all five. This year sounds very familiar.

It could be argued that the only one that matters is the last one.

You can do all sorts with statistics.

The closer this gets the more confident I become. You always bottle it at our place and I think the intensity of it gets to you. It certainly got to the Italian facist prick, who made himself look a complete c*** with his ridiculous outbursts before the game and inability to deal with it which he transmitted to your players. Yeah, looking forward to turning you over.................again.

I've mentioned it once. Robie and Eric Read have both brought it up - along, now, with yourself.

Maths not your strong point?

I didn't bring it up, I responded to you. Reading and comprehension not your strong point?

You also brought it up twice. Maths and self awareness also problems?

You didn't quote anyone, either time. Sounds like Oxford got in your head. Maybe give Saturday a miss and find a nice roundabout to photograph?

Do you seriously get a lot of enjoyment from games you didn't see or that took place before you were born?

I've seen us play you lot 16 times, and of those we've only lost 2, including 6 times at your gaff and we've lost one of those.

Don't care & go to JPT games & haven't managed to get tickets to the league games at your place in recent years.

My first game against you lot was 1969, League Cup at the Manor. One nil to us, Davy Sloan diving header from about 15 yards out, 19,000 in attendance, and hardly a Swindon fan in the ground. I remember it like it was yesterday. Same season 0-0 at your place 21,000 crowd and Oxford everywhere running your fans ragged.

It's tame now, and too sanitised by comparison. I'd have those days back in a heartbeat, it beats arguing about it on the Internet.

Yes. Does England's World Cup mean nothing to you?

Not really?

I'm all for the England team but I have never watched the game, I didn't celebrate it and I can't really feel like ive taken much enjoyment in something that I just wasn't close to being a part of.

Your prerogative I guess.

I wasn't alive when Swindon beat Arsenal in 1969 to win The League Cup but still proud of our clubs finest success.
