Was originally planning to go just for the day but snapped up an offer of coach travel and hotel for £80 pp. Hotel is around the outside of London so don't get an awful lot of time to do much on the Saturday but seemed far too cheap to turn down. Leaving 7:35am, not sure why it's that bloody early considering we're leaving a day earlier.

Not sure how I feel about the match. A little nervous, a little confident. It will literally come down to whoever wants it most on the day as the quality between the sides is almost incomparable.

Oops phone doing crazy things in my pocket, deleted the other 2 posts now!
In reply about why shop at Wembley, my wife found some new shopping arcade on the internet, which we are hoping is close enough to the stadium that we can find each other afterwards! As novices to London, this seems our best bet, as all day Saturday will be spent in the centre, so no need for her to be there Sunday as well.
And it has free parking as i can't leave my car in the hotel car park after i've checked out, you see, a method to my madness! :D

Just saw that Robertson is ruled out for Grimsby, although don't think that'll make much of a difference, not like he played against Eastleigh.

I've got a feeling Sinclair will take a place on the bench for us, which would be nice. He's been pictured taking full part in training. Could be a decent person to bring on later on if legs get a bit tired.

I think it's still a blow, it means our back 4 will remain flat with little attack support from the fullbacks although I'm not sure how good Robertson was going forward, very barely seen him play. Personally didn't think Toto was all that convincing at right back against Eastleigh although he was up against a very good winger in Jai Reason.

I'd have much preferred Robertson back in at right back but I guess it's one less headache for Hurst.

Yeah i thought that, at least now he doesn't have to tell either Toto or Gowling that they are not playing.

It's funny because I saw 3 of those dotted around Bristol for your JPT game, never once saw a customer. Wild.

But please keep researching, posting and taking an interest in us. It's all rather flattering.

Oh by the way, is it true theres a thread on your forum with your own fans thinking you can be as big as Dortmund?:lol::lol: Are Cardiff even your rivals anymore? Must be looking at Southampton now

Good luck Rovers. (rinses out mouth and goes for a lie down)

No, seriously. You have had a great season and narrowly missed out on automatic, so you deserve it.

There will certainly a few thousand Pirate converted Imps for a time on Sunday. At least whoever wins it will be a real club unlike certain others. Still cannot believe Town have only sold around 13k tickets, seen some funny pics of Wembley needing extra setting to cope with all the Mariners fans!

If I'm going to be ultra-fair to Mariners though on the 13K uptake:

Been there a few times recently, Wembley novelty factor now non-existent, just another game etc.

The prices are ludicrous - the Conference and FA should be fucking ashamed of themselves. Without being judgmental/trolling at all, I think it would be more affordable for Bristolians than a certain few from Grimsby looking at it economically.

Still, I maybe would have expected nearer 20K, but there we are. As I said earlier, the perfect conditions for Grimsby, it's another away game.

Oh yes I agree, it's funny how some Mariners fans were laughing at how poor some of our home and away figures were when we got to those 5 play off games back in the FL. Without doubt there is a kind of burnout factor here. My brother who is also an IMP lives near Bristol and knows quite a few Rovers fans, one mentioned recently that he couldn't believe we took so few fans to Rovers for our play off game, he said it was mainly down to the lack of appeal after being in the PO's so many seasons. Pricing may be a factor but as it's such an important game surely you would just find the cash whatever?!

Think pricing is a big factor but not the only one. The Seetickets thing is too. I can't believe they can justify £3 booking fee per ticket, even if you order in bulk. The nearly £3 postage despite a first class stamp being less than a pound. The 6p per minute phone call. Charging you postage even if picking up from Wembley. No way to buy from the club if you want too. (though some how GTFC got hold of tickets to sell to the public the last few days.)

We have been to Wembley recently and this will be our 5th trip in 17 years plus one to Cardiff. Most day trippers have been there done that. Its also on TV and finally and probably the biggest, its a non-league game nobody really cares except the regular fans, most that would turn up for a game like this or have done in the past just aren't bothered any more.

I think its disappointing we haven't managed to get near 20k, but can certainly now see why we haven't.

I think the fact that it's not really viable to do a day trip on the train will have put off a few people too. A bus replacement between Grimsby and Doncaster and the first rain (bus) out of Grimsby gets into Kings Cross a little over an hour before kick-off, leaving precious little time to get across London and have a few beers and soak up the pre-match atmosphere. Also to leave time for any extra-time and penalties you won't be getting home till about 11pm. You can do it no problem but it would all seem a bit of a mad rush, not taking into account sitting on a bus for 2 hours calling at every stop between Grimsby and Doncaster and the same on the way back.

I'd be there at any cost and I am disappointed at the number we have sold, but I can fully understand why so many people are choosing to stay at home and will no doubt be packing out the pubs of North East Lincolnshire on Sunday to watch the match with a few pints during the game.

Interestingly, how many would you have taken if it was held at old Trafford? Don't think we've been there since 1956 (could be wrong) but I imagine we may have actually have taken more there than Wembley this year!

Can't see it - further away, not as prestigious. When the play-offs were at Old Trafford/Etihad before the Olympics I don't think the crowds were particularly great.

We've been to Old Trafford FA cup 1963, League cup 1972 & League 1973/74 season. Also we played them at Eastville 1956 .

You sure? Pretty sure I have a mug somewhere that we beat United at old Trafford in the fa cup 4-0 in 1956..

Gashead, my main point of thinking was;
1. We've been to Wembley before
2. The floaters went with city so that's 3 times in what, 5 years a Bristol club has been?
3. The coach/train would probably by a very similar price if not cheaper
4. Not many would have been to Old Trafford, especially supporting Rovers

We beat United 4 -0 at Eastville in 1956. They went on to win the league that year. 1963 we were well beaten either 4-0 or 4-1 and in 1972 we won the reply at OT 2-1 ( Best missing a penalty ) I was there. 1974/75 season we lost there 2-0 in a league match (I was also there ) drawing at home later in the season.

Looking forward to Sunday and hoping it'll be an enjoyable game. Won't be surprised at all if this is not the case, as there have been quite of few of those dull, totally uninspiring finals in the past, when clubs were more intent on not conceding then on scoring. But it's understandable really, a lot hinges on a game like this one.

Should be interesting for us neutrals, with no nail-biting and heart stopping moments just like when your club's involved. Oh, who am I kidding? Come on Grimsby.

PS - No offence Rovers fans! I don't mind your club at all, and wish you all the best for the future. It's just that Grimsby have served their time.

Excepting all the things the others have said (novelty factor gone, non league game, rip-off prices, distance, lack of travel options, on telly...) I think a pertinent point is that we've lost our last 3 major finals. The journey home after losing is awful and many won't want to risk having to do that again.

Heading down to London this afternoon.

I'm confused though. I feel more nervous now than each time I was in that hospital bay waiting to go into the operating theatre to have my head carved open. How can a bloody football match affect me more than that? :dk:
