Yeah, that sounds more like a top 5 budget.

Don’t think it was. Power has said next season’s budget will remain the same - £2-2.5m.

Things certainly do change. When we were last promoted from this league, our playing budget was circa £2.2m - one of the highest in the league. I suspect, as discussed, this is now a top seven budget and £3m+ are the top 3?

Sounds about right. Dale ‘knit your own yoghurt’ Vince ain’t shy with the money and fuck knows what those Manc upstarts will throw at it.

The Radfords will finance Mansfield well again - hope they give it to Flitcroft to waste.

Scunny might have a wealthy owner ( well his wife is anyway heiress to the Wilkinson stores fortune) but the club are massive debt upto 10 million depending on who you believe.

What as in debt that’s been loaned to them interest free via the owners or proper debt?

Pretty sure Swann charges them interest (£200k a year and increasing every year, whatever that works out as)?

IIRC, they owe Swann £7m.

Got a feeling we will be running a reduced budget with the new appointment - pre Evans style budget.

Pretty much impossible due to players already on the books I imagine, but we have no clue until we make signing what the ‘full backing’ quote from JR means.

I am not sure how many players are contracted - full backing could mean anything.

Pretty sure he would have said Murray had 'full backing' but his budget was reported to be half of the big man.

Brave move but Flitcroft blew a 3 mill budget - he had to go.

Our budget last season was 3.3 million (including staff) and I don't believe it is being cut (much) for next season. Not sure where that leaves us in the budgets.

Top 3 this season, probably top 5 next season. Bradford, Plymouth, Salford, Scunthorpe will all have close to 3 million and over.

Edit: maybe Orient too?

Don't think we will have a top 5 budget. We already loaded off our highest earner in Gilks in January, we will then lose Morris, Ojo and hopefully Burgess and McArdle. All high earners. Swann will probably cut the budget again.

Always remember Artell saying ours was the 5th lowest in the league in the paper but somehow I just can't quite believe that given some of the teams in the division and our Category 2 Academy costs.

I'd say we're far more likely to be middle of the road given some of the players we have in this side.

Don’t think it was. Power has said next season’s budget will remain the same - £2-2.5m.
Yes that was what he said , but if you listen to what wellens said during a interview near the end of the season, he said he will have to work very carefully with his budget .
Also , as you yourself said, that budget also covers all backroom staff.

just a quick one , Brown wanted Hussey to come to us, as he was given a free transfer from sheff utd, but in the end we could not afford him, and so where did he up?........

No he still has another year.

I expect he will go to a League 1 club though which could net us a tidy amount. Maybe even you lot will get him. If he doesn't move on though he's a guaranteed 20 goals I reckon.

I dont think he will come back mate he was well fooked off getting dropped for cole stockton then james alabi!!!

He warmed up in front of us and we used to have a laugh with him . There was an occasion we were getting beat at home ( sutton or dover) and mellon brought on jeff hughes before him he turned and screamed f**k off out of anger and walked to the corner flag and took his frustrations out on it! Spekkys were shouting stuff like ' you should be on andy' and ' whats mellon thinking' to which he was turning round nodding and agreeing !

Every game after that mellon made a point of going over and telling him how well hed done after every game or when he was taken off to be rested!

The only thing that will bring him back is his relationship with the supporters we lived him and vice versa . I think if he goes to l1 it will be somewhere like posh or even sund'land if they dont go up

Doubt it. Think we’ll be somewhere in the 2.2-2.5 range.

So our player wage budget was last night confirmed by the club, don't think that's ever happened pre season before.

It is set to be £2.6 million, I'm out of touch with league 2 where would people think that stands? Top end or tin pot bucket shakers?

We will also receive add ons for Cahrlie Wyke should Sunderland get promoted and a 15% sell on should Oli McBurnie get sold.

Our playing budget will be around £1.5-£2m apparently, similar to this season.

Our chairman agreed a £3.1m wage bill last season, but Edin Rahic decided to overspend by £1.1m. The FA Solidarity payments reduce by £400k following our relegation - but we also receive a parachute payment of circa £90k due to said relegation.

Should Sunderland achieve promotion, we receive £150k through the Charlie Wyke deal. As mentioned, the big one is the McBurnie deal - which I’m sure Swansea will want to cash in. This could be worth up to £2m.

Interestingly, none of our current crop of players had relegation clauses in their contracts. £1.6m of the £2.6m playing budget is currently taken up by contracted players. So if the worst case scenarios happens and Sunderland and Swansea fail to do their business, we have £1m to spend on new players. It doesn’t sound a great deal, but you could get 7/8 decent players on £2.5k+ per week with that. I’m sure the club are playing a game of smoke and mirrors. Bowyer has already come out and stated a lot of our targets are wanting over the odds on wages...and their agents’ responses are the same “but your Bradford City”. I believe there’s more money to spend if required, but the club won’t be bent over a barrel, either.

Id guess that would be atleast a top 7 budget. Ours will be around half that at a guess.

Sounded like we were apparently going for something similar.

I’m still majorly off football mind, the nations league finals in Portugal in a fortnight should hopefully see to that!

Still worried we’ve no-one with contacts at the club, hopefully we can carry on linking up with forest

Look up Lee Glover, he’s literally bathing in a good record for player recruitment.
