Well done Southend.

Some might say it's a bit unfair on Wycombe as they finished 4th, but it was only goal difference that separated the teams in the league, as evidenced by a final that by all accounts could have gone either way, and in the end it was Southend who triumphed by the only means that could separate the teams, and by a single penalty. And while Wycombe have done tremendously well to turn their fortunes round so quickly, the fact is they're bloody lucky to have still been in this division in the first place, so I imagine many Rovers fans won't be too unhappy about this result, as well as Colchester who will look forward to renewing acquaintances with Southend after their great escape.

Get in!! Given Wycombe "stole" 3 points by late late goals vs us, it was somewhat karma like what happened today. It was a poor game - but Southend should have had a penalty and Jacobson's free kick was well struck but went in as a fluke.

After his mediocre spell with us - odd to see Deegan celebrating promotion - his beard is even more bigger than before! Wycombe may well struggle next season. Holloway seems to love playing us so he will get at least two goals then.

Congrats Southend.

Agree that we were too negative in extra time and that that bit us on the arse.

Agree also with the Carlisle fan who said we'd be likely to yo-yo straight back down again from L1 had we got there.

Anyway. I know a lot of people take a cut out of the playoff pot, so they're not as lucrative as you might think, but we should at least be able to afford a couple of extra players after all that.

Congrats Southend. I thought they were the better side in the two games we played against them this season and a lot more positive than Wycombe. Four fully deserving promoted sides in my mind.

Oh and the idiot Southend fans who left before the end should be banned for life from football stadia for being so weak.

Won't lie, I'm chuffed Wycombe threw it away this evening. Our trip to Adams Park next year has the potential to be lively!

I've just got in and seen the score. I can't believe we've lost another southern team to make this league even more northern!

Well done Southend.

nothing against Wycombe, but that was a pleasing way to get promoted. Pretty crap game, but that really doesn't matter back we go to Division 3 - see you all again in anywhere from 2-8 years.

Congratulations Southend, was thoroughly expecting them to go into the play offs on a complete downer and throw it away in the semis. Great character to bounce back though and the players and Phil Brown deserve great credit. Think they'll adjust fairly well to League One and while Brown is in charge can't see them being in any serious danger next season.

Heartbreaking for Wycombe though. Guess we'll see how good a manager Gareth Ainsworth is next season, will they challenge again at the top end?

I'm in pieces.

I legit cried tears of joy at the end.

We didn't sell as much as we would have liked but it was only a week between tickets and we went to Wembley 2 years ago which puts off day-trippers. Also more expensive.

21k is decent though.

WE DID IT TOUGH!!

HELLO LEAGUE ONE.

Full credit to Southend. Been there or thereabouts in recent years so they deserve a shot at L1 in my opinion. Unfortunate for Wycombe, but I don't think they'd make much impression in the third tier had they gone up.

Saunders emerges back onto the bench on Crutches.

Shame is that.
Not being funny and I certainly don't want to see players injured, but he left one of our players on crutches a few weeks ago. And he had no other intention.

Congratulations to Southend - happy with that result; I don't think Wycombe will be anywhere near the level of this year. They will have a bit of a hangover after that.

It was reported on Sky during the match that the gate receipts were shared and on average getting to the final was worth about 200k for league 2 finalists

You're kidding me .... Wycombe can hardly be considered north even if Southend is nearer to your back yard!

Just catching up with it today, absolutely gutted for Wycombe but I bet the Southend fans (the ones that stayed at least), couldn't believe it.

Be interesting to see how this affects Wycombe next season.

So what you've basically said is, you're not sorry he's on crutches. Well played.

We've had Saunders on the books for a number of years, and he definitely is not that kind of player. Injuries happen, don't wish ill on people just because they happen.

Couldn't cope with the inevitable Ainsworth love-in if Wycombe went up so for that am pleased. Lost a cracking away day though

Really pleased Ainsworths mob didn't go up, horrible side. Feel bad for their decent fans though, like Mowgli etc.

Happy for Southend too, can't see them coming straight back down

It's the typical way Luton fans react to things like this. Last season Jon Nurse broke Jon Smith's leg - completely terrible challenge but very accidental - Luton fans all ran to the end of the stand to throw coins and scream abuse at him as he walked off the pitch in tears apologising to them and the Luton players.

Horrible mentality.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
At least the Wycombe fans can enjoy the luxuries of the Carlisle Billionairre-gate next season

Twas a terrible match, feltsorry for Southend heading to extra time as they should have had a pen, ref made most decisions great until that one.....seemed like they were running no luck with ref's in these play-offs.

thought they were out, but Wycombe undone themselves by being too interested in holding lead, but you cannot blame them and nearly nearly worked.

pens probably only way to seperate both sides, but must admit i expected a better game, but i think that 20 second injury completely disrupted Wycombe
