Need to sign some league two players and play a league two style of football when needed. Cooks stubborn football only tactics has killed us this season. Need a plan b with more strength and direct football when the pretty stuff isn't working.
Need a goalkeeper a goalscorer and more meat in the middle of the park to progress

I missed this game, did Plymouth seriously run on he pitch at FT?

If true then I hope they don't go up. I've never understood running on the pitch because you won a play off semi-final. Much like Grimsby did last season and then lost to us in the final. There's nothing to celebrate until you've won promotion, idiots.

I think it's more the done thing for the youngsters.

I much prefer to run to the pub instead

So with the strict pitch encroachment rules in place they can expect a lot of three year bans? Never did understand how a bloke that hops a sign and celebrates with the players can get a 3 year ban then the stewards openly let thousands on the pitch to celebrate

Poorly head this morning that's for sure! What a great day and absolute pandemonium at the end last night. As far as the game was concerned I think we deserved it. First half we stood off a bit too much and allowed Portsmouth to dominate possession as per the first leg but again never really troubled Luke in the goal. Thought we had scored in the first minute after that strike from Carey. Great save! Second half we came out a different side and kept pushing and pushing and the goal was a long time in coming after hitting the post, having one cleared off the line and Matt missing a sitter! Think on the balance of the 2 legs we just about shaded it, and it showed in the scorline.

Great support from both sets of fans last night contributing to a great atmosphere. Thought Pompey went a bit quiet for the last 30 as Argyle started to dictate play and rise to the occasion. Massive respect to the 15 or so that stayed behind and clapped our team on their lap around the pitch.

We simply have to win at Wembley to have any chance of keeping Carey next year. Class again yesterday and I thought Boateng was back to his best running the midfield.

Not surprised that Plymouth got promoted after watching the 1st leg. Plymouth's match winners found their form at the right time and that was the difference. Pompey play lovely football but they don't play League 2 football and we have realised this over the last 4 seasons, that you need to be able to have a target man to play off in some situations. We lost to Pompey 1-0 recently and I will argue that the goal was a foul, but they dominated possession yet never opened us up, yet we played poorly and still had some good chances to score late on.

Nice of you to concede the final already mate! (If you get there)

Congrats to Plymouth, commiserations to Pompey. That was a very close and nervy game which could have gone either way. Harsh to lose it in the last minute.

A Plymouth/Accrington final would suit me nicely as it would guarantee the removal of one side bloody miles away.

Very strong rumours that he will be our Dack replacement. Carey that is.

Only saw the last 15 minutes but from that, Argyle deserved it by as others are saying going League 2 football.
They put it in the mixer and had two good chances (post and save) before the far post winner.
Unfair to blame the Pompey keeper, it was a good deep corner that he would only have got if he started on the back post, the man on the post turning his back didn't help...

Keeper might have stood a chance if he'd jumped or even stood up straight for that matter. Should have done much better with all three goals over the two legs. Story of our season though mixture of shit decisions poor goalkeeping and an inability to see a game through its late stages.

Not conceding the potential final - Don't want to upset the Football Gods!

Don't forget we beat you 2-1 a few weeks ago and we are better defensively and more direct than they are so would pose a completely different problem for you.

After backing Wimbledon in here, I stuck Pompey in my play-off treble.

If we lose at Wembley, then this would be fair enough, however with all due respect if we do win and join you in L1 next season i'd be seriously disappointed (and surprised) if he was to join another similar standard L1 team that we would be looking to challenge with. If we went up and he went to a Championship side, or a 'big club' in L1 then fair enough eg. MK Dons, Shef U.

As much as everyone (including myself) dislikes them, it would be foolish to discount them from the promotion race back to the championship next season as one of the 'bigger' clubs in the league with a sizeable budget.

Will be an interesting final actually, whoever wins the second game.

Part of me wonders if whoever won the game last night thinks that's it. Pompey - Plymouth was undoubtedly the big semi-final, but I'd argue both of them have proved to be massive bottlers at various points during the season.

Accy and Wombles on the other hands are good sides, in form etc. and I wonder if the pressure will get to Plymouth. Will be a good game for sure.

Fair points, but we will be looking to challenge the top two. We were there for the majority of the season, only falling away in the last half dozen games or so.

Ah well...

In the cold light of day, I can't be too gutted. We lost to the better side over 2 legs, so can't complain. Good luck to the Pilgrims in the final.

We've endured far worse in the last 8 years or so, and still have our team to support. The club's in good hands, turning a profit, with the best manager we've had since Redknapp.

Already feeling positive about next season. Give Cook the summer to tweak his squad and we'll go again in August.

Play up Pompey.

If you lose Dack it would be a huge blow in my opinion and leave a hole that you're unlikely to be able to fill, making any challenge unlikely. To be truthful (and I don't mean this in a nasty way to belittle your team) every time I've seen Gillingham play this season (a few times at the start of the season and twice after christmas) Dack his been virtually a one man team for you with him in both penalty boxes doing everything, creating all your chances, breaking up opposition play, scoring, fantastic movement off the ball so you've got an outball, playing like a man possessed carrying passengers in your team (the likes of Jordan Houghton for example). For me, he's the only reason you've been anywhere near challenging this season, he's far too good for league 1.

Yes he is certainly far too good for the level, but to say we were a one man team is very harsh. He was our best player so we played a formation that made use of that fact, which worked for the main part, but he couldn't have done it on his own. The 3 million or so we'll get for him will be invested into the squad, so if anything we could be stronger next season.

I admire your optimism and will hold my hands up if you do get top 2, but in my time in football it's rare to see a club sell such an integral player and be able to spend the proceeds in a constructive way to improve the team overall, much more often it's wasted on high wages and journeymen despite the best of intentions. League 1 also looks quite strong next year with quite a few big clubs

I'd definitely dispute that for a start!

Palace supposedly. He'd be a good signing for anyone between top 10 of the Championship and the bottom 6 or 7 of the Prem.
