Thought we may as well get this started early as it's never dull (unlike the football Vale are playing)

Our 1st away game of the season after 4 home games on the bounce, and it's the short trip down the D road to Boslum duck.

We've had an ok start, still unbeaten in the league after two draws and a win, decent but still plenty of room for improvement, plus plenty os speculation means we may yet lose George Cooper.

As for Vale the knives seem to be already out for Brown after a couple of poor results/performances (personally I think if I was a Vale fan my anger would directed at the clown Smurthwaite)

I think it will be a close tough game. Vale probably can't get any worst than they been in the last two games, but we will certainly test them, and with Porter in the form he is atm we've got a decent chance. Think we're due a draw at VP though.

Port Vale 1-1 Crewe (Pyke, Porter) 6,688 (1,098 railwaymen)

Yes I know our away support is shocking before the Vale lot pipe up. For some reason many of our fans seem to scared to go Vale after a few chavs always throw bricks at the coaches. If we were playing Macclesfield, Stockport or Shrewsbury we would probably take more which is daft really.

Huge huge game for Brown and one if he loses could see him in an untenable position with the fan base after some damn right bizarre tactics, selections and excuses.

Played well at Chesterfield first half but paid for a mad few minutes for the third game in a row leaving ourselves too much to do. Mind you we could have Messi and Ronaldo and wouldn't get a result at Chesterfield.

I still have no idea what our squad is about, impressive result at Crawley, very good at Leeds for an hour, diabolical for 60 minutes at home to Wycombe then a mixed performance yesterday. some players are not performing notably Wilson and Pope and we have injuries galore again. Feels like 2016-17 again!

We need an attacking midfielder and a keeper to cover Lainton and hopefully we will sort that in time. Oddly rumours of Louis Dodds returning which seems highly unlikely as hes in the Shrews side at the moment, just offer Eagles whatever he wants!

As for the game think we will get something, possibly a draw but Browny needs a win really with three real tough ties to follow in Notts Co, Coventry and Luton.

Largely speaking that is the case. Am under no illusions nothing is going to change at this club until that idiot is long gone. That said Brown has had a fair few games as manager and without checking the exact record it is pretty shocking. Not to mention he has signed a lot of players and very few of them have worked out.

As for Saturday this is a rare occasion I could go to VP with being off work but screw it, they are just not worth the money or the effort to go. Hope Vale get something but nothing so far gives any reason to think they will.

VF16 I would dispute Crawley being an impressive result. More we see this year it will just be us beating up on a team that frankly are relegation fodder. I'd suggest Chesterfield and Wycombe are a more accurate indicator of where we are.

Hard to predict this one after just 3 games. Crewe have what looks like a regular goal scorer in Porter, while we can't keep a clean sheet. However, there will be extra motivation to win this one after some poor performances. I don't think Brown's job is under pressure yet, but it certainly won't help if we lose. If we get a new face in to bolster midfield then it's a winnable game, but I think i'll predict a draw which will be a better result for Crewe than us.

1-1

Probably way wide of the mark but I think there was one time in the Championship they brought just shy of 2000 from memory (Crewe won it 3-2). Other than that think they brought about 1500 about the time they got promoted with Ashton up front.

1st time I went in the championship we took around 2000, also the last time I went, I think it was 1400 we won 1-0 Ajose scoring.

It will be over a 1000 but not many more, our number's are poor.

I'm looking forward to it as they are rarely poor games, but having seen vale twice this season I'm not expecting a positive result.
Our midfield is just non-existent, the pope ain't been fed, our manager is making some bizarre decisions, and fans are rightly getting antsy.
My (ever fading) ire is directed towards the clown at the top as the op suggests it should, and I believe many feel the same, unfortunately he's going nowhere anytime soon.
There should be a half decent crowd for this, but a defeat and poor performance will see them turn.
Considering the last 15 months I would say the fans have been very patient but I can't see that lasting.

Only once have the Alex Army had less than a thousand at the 'Wembley of The North' (chuckle) and took over 2,600 down there in 97-98.
Not true our last when we got relegated there about 5-600 went and I've been before when 900 odd went. Also about 7-800 in the jpt.

Thinking about it its strange because we always travelled well to the brit. 1500 was the lowest in our relegation season, we regularly took 2500 + there, even filled it once I think.

Yeh,forgot about the day we got relegated but that was an exceptional circumstance and as for the JPT-well,that doesn't count.
Only played at the Shit,er...I mean Brit a couple of times haven't we and most we took was 2;203 when we won 2-0.

Crewe also had four figures when we drew 1-1, I'm sure of it?

Byron Moore for them and an Artell OG for us.

Yes we were. That 3-2 win back in the 97/98 season was are first win over Vale since the 1960's, our record was appalling until that win. That particular match at Vale Park had over 10,000 in attendance, Tony Naylor scoring for you after a couple of minutes from the spot right in front of us, and running up and kissing his Vale badge! The result barrage of 'Tony Naylor is a wanker' put him off his game for the rest of the macth and he got hooked. Shame really, as I liked Tony, was good for us, and he seemed to always dick Stoke for you, which is no bad thing.

I think in some of the above comments we have underestimated our following that day as it was at least 3,000. Think we cleared 2000 back in 2002/03 season, maybe took 1600 to the FA Cup ,match that season. Overall though our followings have been piss poor to Vale Park, as has been mentioned we take loads more to Stoke, I think this is more to do with the general Crewe residents mindset of despising anything with the word Stoke in it, people in Crewe who support other clubs (too many of these arseholes) or people who are not into football all hate Stoke, not just Stoke City, but anything Stoke, road signs with Stoke on it, Stoke media (you lads probably feel the same about those jokers) Stoke colleges, maps with Stoke on it, anything, it's a pathological hatred, and I think because Port Vale do not have the name Stoke, and in old money come from a separate town, I don't think the hostility is the same, I also think Wrexham, Chester and Stockport are disliked with more ferocity than Vale , or maybe we are just scared of the VLF, I'm not sure, but I really do believe that the Stoke factor has something to do with it, which in football matches is only a phenomenon of the last 20 years as before that we had not played them in decades, but I remember as a 12 a year old seeing an almighty brawl in Crewe town center between Crewe and Stoke in 1985 before a pre-season friendly, as well as crapping myself and proving why I could run like the wind back then, it also made me wonder where all of those Crewe thugs had come from, as other than the odd skirmish at Gresty Road or the usual FA Cup away riot Crewe liked to specialize in I had never seen anything like that before, but I know now, it's those 5 vile letter that send all Crewites into a wild rage!

Anyway, that's enough of me talking shite, I really hope the Alex win, I'll plump for 2-1 to us with Porter and Daggers netting for us before a late consolation from old Tom. A crowd of 6435 with 1321 Alex.

I do hope the Vale are all right this season though, all our other rivals have bottled it as league sides, we need one local derby to keep the fixture list interesting.

Still the best player we had off you!

He took some hammer off lower league center backs due to his size, but he never hid. I remember him hitting 5 past Colchester in one match. A golden era of finding non league gems and turning them into solid pro's who went on to have good careers.

I'm sure I have read that he scored for us against you, you against us and you against Stoke, not sure how true that is, it's not quite as complicated as Dave Brammer's career path!

Indecently, and I'm sure a lot of you might disagree, but it's said in Crewe that when we signed your player of the season and captain for half a million it was the day we became a bigger club than Vale. I think maybe for a period of 3-5 years this may have been true, certainly our home crowds went bigger and we had more money, but then it evened up, and now it's back to Vale being ahead, but the gap could close again.

Vale doesn't have the novelty of Stoke. Let's be fair, Stoke are a top 2 division club with a spell in League One whereas us and Vale are bottom 2 divisions with a spell in the Championship. If we played Stoke in the FA Cup this season we'd sell out I'm sure of it. Daytrippers would definitely be out in force for that game because of the Premier League lure.

Vale is a standard league game unlike Stoke. I enjoy going and some of our fans who compare it to a warzone are drips just because we ruined Vale's season in 2010 and they didn't take to it too kindly as you'd expect. Both sides have knobheads but it's a good old traditional lower league clash and one I enjoy. That said, we always travel better to Macclesfield and Stoke than Vale and I'd assume it'd be the same if Chester or Wrexham were in our league too. The reason? All four are better days out than Vale and we don't play the other four anywhere near as often as we do Vale. Plus us and Vale both see Stoke as a bigger game so it's not a fierce rivalry hence it's not to the levels of Swindon-Oxford and Chesterfield-Mansfield for example.

As for the game, if we sign a RB we'll be in great shape to give the Vale a hiding. But we won't and I fully expect them to attack down Perry Ng's side all game because he's already shown huge weaknesses being played out of position this season. That sounds quite farfetched but I genuinely believe with a fullback we'll have balance and it'll stop teams from attacking down that flank and causing us a myriad of problems like every side has done so far this season. Even Barnet's best spell of the game on Saturday was attacking down that flank because we lacked a natural RB. RBs don't win you games at this level, but a lack of a natural one can lose you points and in the case of the Bolton game, a place in the next cup draw, as has happened so far this season. We should've learned our lesson from playing the inadequate Ollie Turton there for 3 years but it seems we haven't...

1-1 (Popey, Porter)

Crewe were bigger during the early 2000's around our first administration when we hit the doldrums period despite being a steady league one club, beating Stoke. Likely a hangover from a long spell in the 2nd tier whilst Crewe's spells at that level ended a few seasons later with neither realistically going back there anytime soon. (Money talks far more now than then!)

Don't mind the Crewe-Vale games, a lot less hassle than Shrewsbury's were and Stoke of course so you can enjoy the day out usually without any hassle.

Ross Turnbull, Louis Dodds and David Worrall rumours so hopefully one of these comes off... Dodds seems unlikely, Worrall possibly the quality signing Brown hopes to sign. Need a big reaction after Wycombe. If we can avoid our 10-15 minute shocker that we've put in most games this season (2 in 2 mins v Leeds, 3 in 20 v Wycombe and 2 in 5 mins against Chesterfield) we may have a better chance!

All of this is true and it's a shame the club are busier pimping George Cooper's name daily rather than sorting the defence out. But after 20 years of being in complete denial of having a shite defence, no matter the manager, we should be used to it. Ng must be the new golden boy.

On (very recent) form, I'd be very disappointed to lose this. A draw would be ok and probably likely, as we're looking very middle of the road at the moment.

David Worrall rumoured to be done after his release confirmed by Millwall tonight. Could be the key to our main Achilles heel in the centre of midfield.

Good player so won't complain but isn't he a winger? Most importantly Brown needs to find a settled team and a good system of play quickly.

He is but played mainly in the central midfield role for Millwall last season apparently.

Fair enough if that's the case. I just hope for a change Brown has given it some thought on how he is going to fit in to this team and what role he has in mind for him. Too often before I feel with his signings it comes across as throwing enough shit at the wall and hoping some of it sticks.

Well he will become the 47th new signing in the last 13 months won't he? So you could say that!
