We actually have three decent wingers, so it doesn't matter who you play on the flanks.

Midfield battle will be key. I'd honestly consider playing Brown for this game and stick him on Bradley Dack.

Surely with Grants performances we should stick him on Dack?

I'd start Uche for this as they are a big physical unit so need someone to rough up their back line and cause problems.

You can stick who you want on Dack - the form he's in it won't matter!

Also, don't know where this bollocks about us being a big, physical side has come from. Our centre backs barely scrape 6 foot each, and I doubt many of the rest of the side are over 6 foot either. We scored 3 set-piece goals against Sheffield United as we had excellent delivery and they were fucking shite at dealing with them. The first one hit Norris on the knee when he was on the line, the second was lashed in on the ground from a few yards, and the third was an own goal.

Grant pocketed a better player Tuesday to be fair so if he performs like that then we will be ok... Its if we get to that level of performance again though.

It's good to see confidence is high in both camps, but as a Gills fan I'm used to having that scuppered at any moment.

So naturally I'm going for a 3-0 Vale victory.

Have a bad feeling we wont be able to deal with these delapesque throw ins gillingham use. Inniss has to start to deal with them.

Our attack is beginning to click so could be goals for both sides.

I'll stick my neck out and go 2-2, uche brace.

Pretty sure judging by our line up we'll be setting up:

Nelson
Jackson - Egan - Oshilaja - Dickenson/Garmston
Houghton - Wright
Williamson - Dack - Dickenson/Garmston
Norris
Osadebe hasn't returned, and too early for McDonald, Morris or Loft

Sounds like we haven't bothered turning up yet. Hopefully we'll come out the blocks quickly in the second half and win it, we're more than capable.

Dominating performance and out footballing a so far poor Gills side. Anwick picking up a pass back gave Gills a lead but we've put them under a lot of pressure. Gills are lucky to have 11 on the field with w flurry of yellows hacking us down when we get near the box. Their number 3 is being torn apart by Moore and Purkiss.

Great move for the equaliser too, ping ping chest down by Uche and drilled home by Dodds.

Have to keep this up! Anwick will be kicking himself.

Should of won really. Carbon of Crewe game a bit. Grant was outstanding again and kept Dack quiet, hit bar but a points a point against a side that came with spoiling tactics. Six or seven yellows!

Very disappointing not to win that.

Gillingham are a very cynical, dirty side. Grant got hacked down when running through at least 5 times. I'm amazed they finished with 11 still on.

Speaking of Grant, releasing him will be a very large nail in Crewe's relegation coffin.

Happy with a point, didn't sound like a great performance from us but no doubt we'll play better and lose

Their number 3 Garmston was dreadful he must be sat in the bog having a cry after that. Gills improved when he went off. I was laughed at for calling them physical but it was practically a jail term for some of that today!

I suppose it's a compliment that they had to resort to that today.

Hope Andoh isn't out for long, Kelly had a mare!

With half a side missing that's a good result thinking about it. Being called physical by a side containing Michael Brown is always fun too. Good that we have the ability to mix it up, would hate to be a side that's only got one style of play so it'll hold us in good stead throughout the season.

Onto Bradford.

3-0 on another day. Inniss' two headers that both crashed against the woodwork, and their farce of a goal never should have happened. Picking up a backpass, for fucks sake Alnwick you fucking clown.

Last half hour of the first half we tore them a new one. Purkiss and moore were running riot! Other than that it was 2 pretty well matched teams.
Dack and their right full back stood out for them.
Our defence looking strong again.
No chance are we going down and no chance gillingham will finish top 6.

We don't expect to be in the play-offs. We'll be between 8th and 12th and that'll be a decent season for us.

Glad to see Purkiss doing well, a lot of people would have kept him as a back up/starter for this season but Smith decided against us. Against a rapid winger he will get skinned and he allows a cross in far too often which can lead to a goal, However, he is good on the ball, decent in the air and quite agile for a big bloke. Smith did a great job taking him from a relegated to the non league Hereford reject to a steady competent full back in league one.

Purkiss has Moore on that side so that covers the lack of pace, they were immense first half. Garmston was ripped to pieces, got hauled off before being sent off.

We're physical but fair, Brown is barely getting in at the moment but that from Gills today wasn't mixing it up just purely dirty and could of easily saw red cards.

Disappointing goal to concede especially as yet again he had little to do all game in goal, Inniss and Duffy were superb (deserves credit after last season Duffy) and dealt with their long balls into the box with ease.

We're just a striker short of being a very good side!

Don't think I've seen a Vale team look so solid defensively, Swindon away next will probably change that. Unfortunately I've also never seen a Vale team look so toothless up front. Looks like we'll have a season of binary football to look forward to, probably finishing much closer to the bottom than the top.

I'd rather have the foundation of defensive solidity that we can use to first grind out results then push on and win matches than the resignation that we're going to have to score three goals to win a game, which we had for most of last season.
