Huge game for the Vale and Morecambe tomorrow with both sides in poor recent form.
Vale and Morecambe shared a crazy draw just before Christmas when Morecambe took a 2-0 lead into the dying minutes with Vale barely threatening before 2 late goals saw Vale level from nowhere... Morecambe straight from kick off ran through the back line and won an injury time penalty only for Scott Brown to deny ex Valiant AJLS...
Vales form dipped since that performance and have won only once since.
John Askey takes charge of the Vale at home for the first time and will look to change the clubs dire home run, hopefully with a more expansive set up than Aspin, three points here would put Vale 7 clear of Morecambe and potentially 8 plus GD ahead of Macclesfield, defeat and Vale could be as close as 2 points plus GD from the drop zone.
Off the field a day of protests against the clubs owner Norman Smurthwaite is set to begin with a pre game march, fans fed up at the failure to provide the 400k promised in Janaury and the clubs continued decline. The Supporters Club and the Black and Gold groups have both united to protest "Black and Gold or We will Fold" Despite Millions of pounds of income off the field with the Jordan Hugill Sell on, sales of Jak Alnwick and Anthony Grant, plus four youth players going for big money, not to mention cup profits this season the club has failed to invest well enough to challenge and the EFL status is again at risk. Smurf has refused to sell and has set unrealistic values on the clubs sale as well as split the club from its ground. Failed foreign experiments have seen the club fall from League One's top 12 to the bottom of League Two in less than 3 years.
Ironically Morecambe came to town the last time we had a big march when V2001 were running the club and eventually forced out, Vale won that day 7-2! Would be nice for a repeat but highly unlikely!
As for the game this is massive, pivitol and up there with the key Chesterfield clash towards the end of last season. A win is a must, a draw keeps us floating a loss unthinkable for our survival hopes.
Hoping we can win this but will be tense 2-1. Pope gets his 100th Vale goal and Hannant.
