poor old devitt should have kept his mouth shut
Sounded soft. Roberts is getting some flack from our commentators, is he always like this??

Thought we were doing alright until the sending off. Created a few openings, got the goal.

The sending off was surprising. The first yellow was definitely a yellow, but the second was extremely soft IMO.

The ref has Ruined the game as a contest. It could end up anything to Pompey now. We're completely on the ropes, I hope it's not a cricket score because I don't think we deserve a hiding.

According to the Portsmouth Twitter the second yellow was for a shirt pull.

If that's the case then the ref needs to actually start penalising Burgess and get his yellow card out. Bit of consistency please.

Unbelievable!

That sounded utterly painful after the red card, but I'm over the moon with that result.

Superb start to the season.

Superb point. Totally pummelled in the second half, Pompey guilty of missing some sitters and some good defending from us.

The ref completely ruined the match with the soft second yellow, it was a good game before that. But Even though down to 10 I'd still rather we'd attacked a bit more second half, we nearly scored first half when down to 10. A negative backs to the wall second half but I'm happy with a point.

Pompey can blame our tactics when down to 10 but still they had the chances to comfortably win the game.

Well, disappointing not to get the win but an encouraging performance. To their credit, Carlisle were very organised throughout the second half but, equally, we really lacked that final pass.
I though Carlisle's goal was really good; I can't recall who got the assist but it was a great pass. I also though the keeper made a couple of superb saves in the last few moments and I couldn't believe his booking.
Positive signs for both sides I would say.

the second yellow looked like a verbal incident but could be wrong

Fair enough if this is the case, because a booking for the foul would have been very harsh IMO.

looked like a verbal reaction to the initial yellow from where I was sat. seemed too quick to be anything else. carlise excicuted the 10 man game very well just a shame the ref didn't clamp down on the clock running a bit sooner.

That's how it looked to me. I assumed it was the application of the new rules for questioning and arguing with officials.

To be fair, there was hardly any dissent after that incident.

Loving the meltdown by Portsmouth fans on Twitter, fans still thinking they're too good for this league despite being held at home by 10 man Carlisle playing with no striker at the end.

Very happy with the point after the ref screwed us over. Curle said he'd had a word with him but that it would be unprofessional to tell everyone what was said. The club are looking into any recent FA legislation changes to see if there's any way we can try and get the red revoked; I thought two yellows was universally non-revokable and can't imagine they'd change that.

All this moaning on Twitter/the Snooze/forums after the first game is hilarious.. despite it ending up the same a lot was different today, mostly in the form of far more long shots on goal, and the new players generally look pretty great, Lalkovic and Baker in particular.

Cookie just needs to gamble more, he left it way too late to bring on Chaplin and even then it was for Smith and not Rose, when we definitely didn't need two holding midfielders with Carlisle playing two banks of 5 and 4. Man needs to actually take risks sometimes. But the signs are promising and we'll get it together. Just wish people would get off Smith's back, he didn't have a great game but strikes me as a lad that doesn't have the same confidence as a Lalkovic type character, so to literally cheer him off the pitch was totally over the top considering it was his first game as a permanent signing.. we always need a scapegoat

Baker was the best player and the most threatening when we were down to 10. Failed to convert an easy chance just after HT though.

He should be the best player in this league and if you do win the league he'll be a big reason.

At least with Devitt's 2 yellows it should only equal a 1 match ban which is the cup match so not too arsed. He'll be back for next weekend.

Yeah Baker looks two leagues above, let alone one. Also have to give credit to Carlisle's infuriatingly slow keeper who made some fantastic saves under pressure

I'm actually going to tip my hat to the Portsmouth fans who refrained from withering "well at least we can 'learning' English" put-downs. Kudos

Good away point for us today.

Disapointed with the sending off, typical poor L2 refereeing ruined our chance of a win.

I've only just caught up with those comments from some Pompey fans on Twitter, pretty funny.

I think this could be a successful season for us, definitely bundles of character in the squad. I'm looking forward to the league cup game next week and then onto another tough league match against Plymouth.

Some of our fans at Portsmouth today seem to think this will be straight forward given their result today, but in a way I think it makes it tougher. They'll be absolutely desperate to avoid back to back defeats.

Absolutely, but the fact that they would lose 3-0 at home must show that they're lacking a certain quality. Devitt will be back and Jabo should be too so we'll have a full strength team barring any injuries against Vale. If we could get a good win against them then we'd be on 4 points 2 games in and having played the hardest fixture and one of the harder home ones already, going into an easier fixture the following week.

Left the ground fairly upbeat, the game as a whole was very like last season. The main difference for me was we didn't stop creating chances even with 10 minutes to go and Carlisle down to 10 men who had every man inside the 18 yard box.

Baker looked class and if not for the Carlisle keeper could have had 3 or 4 worldies, Danny Rose had a steady game and hit the post late on, even Doyle had 2 shots from distance which both tested the keeper. Lalkovic looked unplayable at times and impressed me.

Carlisle fans, was that Ibehre sat in the front of the away end yesterday?
