Especially as it was behind closed doors at Cobham, so no gate receipts.

Chelsea lineup Kepa, T. Silva, Zouma, James, Barkley, Ampadu, Zappacosta, Chilwell, Hudson-Odoi, Batshuayi, Emerson.

No wonder they got caned.
The ridiculous thing here isn't the scoreline but the fact that Chelsea can put that team out the day after playing a Prem game. So much talent not even on the bench yesterday. Not even accounting for Lukaku in the stands and any injuries.

I know they're earning a fortune, enough to sort their families out for generations and I wouldn't begrudge them a penny but the waste of talent that should be playing first team football in the world's top leagues just strikes me as a gross waste.

Just a different world mate int it. Basically a different sport these levels apart. Imagine Weymouth striker being marked by 100 cap for Brazil Thiago Silva. Bet he felt like he was 5 again playing vs his dad

What were the Chesterfield fans opinion on us, if any of you watched the last friendly? Looked like we did alright after you lot dominated the start but I don't know if our highlights were just showing us our good bits and not yours?

Yeah exactly, both.

Also, I'm not begrudging the selection in terms of Chelsea keeping their squad fit either. A few of those players will probably start 20-30 matches if they stay fit (probably more in all comps for the likes of Chilwell and perhaps James and Silva). The likes of Ampadu and Hudson-Odoi might not feature much and could be out on loan at mid to lower Prem/top Championship sides as key players. Emerson is an especially bonkers one too, don't remember seeing him once in the Prem last season yet he featured a lot for Italy in the Euros yet he's third choice at Chelsea for his position.

And why are they even agreeing to play Weymouth with a team like that? They’d have harder practice matches against each other in training.

I watched the game, but was a difficult one to take too much from because we had a very mismatch line up with a mixture of squad players and starters etc (aswell as some trialists second half)

Not sure how you guys lined up in regards starters / squad players… but you looked pretty solid at the back and kept both Rowe and Payne quiet throughout tbf so I’d say defence was your biggest strength. Our attacking midfielder caused problems for you throughout though, with Mandeville in the first half and Clarke in the 2nd half, so that space between your midfield and defence is something I’m sure will have alarmed Hurst and no doubt give him something to think about.

Your midfield looked okay and seemed to have a nice balance about it, but up top you looked pretty weak and as far as I can tell, that’s something that’s concerning quite a lot of your fan base. Whoever it was that was up top was pretty non existent all game. As I say though, still pre season ain’t it so wouldn’t read too much into any of that, just a couple of observations.

Cheers, very much appreciate that.

Sounds like that's a spot on appraisal there, the players we're missing are definitely in those areas you spotted weaknesses. The midfield has two debutants in on loan and other than Coke all three of the others were 18, 18 and 21 I think and we'd previously been playing with three CMs so it's not surprising it was lacking a bit of bite.

Up top in the two was McAtee (an attacking mid/number 10 type) and Sousa (winger), so again, doesn't surprise me they didn't work as a pair. They've both been lively and scoring in previous matches in a three.

Interesting that Pearson and Waterfall started together, that partnership has the potential to either win everything all day long or get absolutely rinsed by pace!

Your first goal was a great strike, by the way.

No worries, always good to hear opposition fans opinions on your team!

Yeah Mandeville scored the goal, big year ahead for him. He’s always had the talent, but since Rowe came in we’re finally seeing the application match his ability! Challenge is for him to consistently do it over 44 games next season now…
