Beat Newcastle United U21's 4-1. Their goal and our 2nd being good wind assisted free kicks

Confidence for the strikers?

Was more competitive second half, but don’t know about you, to me there’s a handful of players that I think probably aren’t good enough.

Beat Solihull Moors 3-0, was 0-0 until the final 10 minutes and then a flurry of goals.

Relatively straightforward 3-0 away at oldham, who were, well shit

With the standard the conference has been the last few seasons it’s hard to draw any conclusions, though bowery most certainly shouldn’t be starting CB next week.

It's also a friendly so.......

Drew 1-1 at Shrewsbury but sounded like we were pretty dominant throughout with two goals disallowed. McGoldrick with another cracker, think we’re in a decent place going into next week.
Should be comfortable intro for you next week. We most definitely aren’t. Another loss to National League with a nil to our name.

We lost 1-0 at Fleetwood and going purely off Twitter updates it seems we played pretty good but just couldn’t put the ball in the net and also picked up another injury which seems to happen every pre season unfortunately.

McGoldrick, Langstaff and Scott have all been scoring and we're making chances. Good pre-season overall I think.

Haven't watched any of the pre season friendlies - which ones?

I understand that they don't expect it to be finished before the start of the season. Our first match is away at Doncaster then home to FGR, so a club not expected to bring a huge following. This is followed by two further away games with the next home match being Morecombe on the 26th August.

From the plans, it will be much better with improved facilities and an away capacity of 1100/1200. We are looking forward to welcoming you all to Wetherby Road. Why not bring the family? Book into one of our many hotels, B&Bs or holiday flats and make a weekend of it. There are lots of great restaurants, shops, gardens and places of interest like the world heritage site Fountains Abbey, Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Knaresborough Castle close by.

Finished our triumvirate of Champ team friendlies with a 2-0 win over Preston, tbf they probably weren't as close to a starting XI as Hudds or Blackburn were.

Powell looked excellent, new loanee Barry had real quality about him. Featherston clearly has a good footballing hear on him but is just leaving match fitness, he's not joining anyway apparently but I'm sure he could do a job for a mid-table side.

I’ve seen a couple of the friendlies now where we’ve won them both but certain things don’t seem to work for me. Obviously I’d be delighted to be proven wrong, but Ray is still the weak link in defence (caught out of position a few times, his passing is awful and seems more arsed about seeing what fouls he can get away with). Newby isn’t a left-wing back and crossing isn’t good enough, and not convinced by Tiensia yet. Duffus, unfortunately, is crap.

For whatever reason, Whitfield still seems short of confidence and can’t see him starting many games. Would’ve also added Acquah to the pile, but he showed some good footwork and a turn of pace in the second half today. Can see him being a frustrating one for our fans though as he doesn’t seem to have much fight in him.

Also got my doubts about whether Gotts and White are good enough to be L2 regulars.

It comes across as really negative, but the likes of Proctor, Campbell, Worrall and Spence are big improvements on what we had before, plus Feely seems settled in the back three now. Garner also looked good the other week too, like he had more confidence too. Hopefully we can add two or three this week or before the window shuts.

That was near enough their best 11.

Fair dos, we will see what happens. It feels like we've flipped a bit 180, where we didn't have depth in midfield and attack we've addressed that but now we are short of defenders especially if we are playing a back three.

Well we beat the butchers, bakers and candlestick makers that made up Bury’s side but other than that we haven’t won another game in preseason.
Playing a totally new system is going to take time to get used to but would’ve been nice not to have signed off with defeat to a non league side.
The defence as I’ve said a few times a massive worry, talk of Prem/Champ loan players to come but still concerned about gaps in positions and the quality we have (lack of) in certain spots.

Still find it very strange we're going with 352 when neither Ridehalgh or Halliday are comfortable as wing-backs. Don't think we've done enough to get the quality needed for a top 3 finish either.

Totally agree, feel we’ll score more as a team but concede more than enough to cancel that out.

They were definitely closer than Blackburn. A couple off what they expect to start next week I think.

That's what I was thinking too. Ash Taylor coming in and contributing five goals and us conceding twelve more goals because Ash Taylor can't defend.

Oyegoke looks to have impressed at RWB but it says it all when Gilliead has started the last two at LWB.

Beat Oldham 3-0 today but a week before the season starts and we already had to play Jordan Bowery at CB. I cannot be arsed with another season playing strikers in defence.

Think Oyegoke has been one of the better performers in pre-season. Didn't have much to do against Bury, but looked really handy against Getafe and Boro. A real shame he isn't able to play on the left instead of Ridehalgh.

Yep. We brought in Oduor to play there too and he's a winger. Seems we've messed up. Our left side looks really weak.

Proving to be the dog shit signing that it looked like on paper. Those who said as such are looking vindicated and the "give him a chance" brigade look like the clowns. Who'd have thought it

He looked pretty suspect against Bury which was quite alarming. He should be miles behind the pecking order. A scouse Zesh Rehman.

Sounds like Draper is having a good pre-season, Walsall fans? Suspect part of that is playing in the Irish season for a while and joining when he's already match fit.

We've also picked up a load of injuries but don't worry, we won't be banging on about it all season like the Mansfield fans.
