Our mad high line with a 17 year-old starting at centre back has been getting absolutely raided by Tyrese Campbell.
Just watched the highlights on Stoke's YouTube, I don't want to be too critical but Mahovo looked (unsurprisingly) out of his depth. With Bajrami playing in midfield today, where I'd rather see him tbh, and Baldwin out, Mahovo was 4th choice CB. Definitely need to get another in.

Mahovo is a young lad who will never play and probably go on loan to NLN or something. Brindley on the other hand looked atrocious, just like he was for large parts of last season. Not that arsed about the result, think we just overplayed and looked uncoordinated with a back 3 that will never actually be the back 3 but I really think we need a RCB. Rawlinson is ok but I don’t want him playing 40+ games and I think Brindley is just cooked and needs offloading asap.

also funny seeing the overreaction to Stone in goal, like maybe could have done better with the 5 as it went through his legs, but the other 4? Don’t think so.

Pretty much agree on all that. Brindley had an absolute shocker and really needs to step up as he's coasted for too long. Our best run of form last season coincided with him being injured and Rawlinson taking his place.
Mahovo despite his error has some promise as does Cisse I think.

Rovers drew 0-0 at Vauxhall Motors. Different line-ups in each half, with a number of trialists. Played much better in the second half though a thunderstorm and downpour didn’t help.

Brindley hasn’t been the same since he got that back injury, definitely the area of the pitch that is most worrying.

Was harsh on Mahovo, even we would’ve dropped that line quite quickly with how much Campbell was roasting us in a cup match or whatever, but I guess it’s about practising the way we’re going to play so we just left it as was for them to try and work out. Didn’t do much to dispel the idea we’ll be the entertainers, should’ve finished about 8-4 or something.

Beat Halesowen Town(tier 7) 5-0 in our first friendly. Goals from Chris Long, Shilow Tracey, Max Woodcock, Owen Lunt and Zac Williams.

Got local side Whitchurch Alport(tier 9) on Tuesday, hope it's mostly reserves and youngsters for that, don't need to be playing the seniors. Then it's the first of our "headline" friendlies against Burton at home next weekend. That'll be the first time we get to see something resembling the possible starting XI for the opening day.

Gills had a decent run out against a Dover club in turmoil. 0-4 and “got minutes into legs” as they say. 3 strikers off the mark which is always good.

Put different XI’s out each half plus subs. And both XI’s were pretty good L2 standard. This time last pre-season we could barely raise one “first XI” in pre-season and mainly included kids and triallists. Think we had 7 contracted players in July 2022. Difference a year (and some backing) makes.

Beat Rossington 3-1, didn’t go as I was on a birthday bash around Leeds but from reports we are still lacking some strength in midfield

Happy with the performance. Played some nice football and I know Bell asked for an energetic performance and it was noticeable how much they pressed and ran yesterday. A good start to pre season but tougher tests to come, the Burton game next weekend will be a good test.

Beat Reading 1-0 in a friendly in Spain, so we're obviously going up this year.

Workington's home friendly against Morecambe has been cancelled as the visitors can't raise a team. Riddled with injuries apparently.

"We regret to inform supporters that tomorrow night’s friendly with Workington AFC has been cancelled.

Due to having a number of players with minor knocks/injuries we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the match in order not to aggravate the injuries further and cause damage to the squad ahead of the new league season."

poor form from Morecambe.....

MKD are flying out to Germany on the 17th for pre season training camp. All their matches and the training sessions will be behind closed doors.

Why? Why the fuck fly to Germany, play some new teams and do it behind closed doors? They might as well have gone to Butlins in Skegness (Or Barry Island as that's abroad) and saved a few quid.

We played a game against our selves yesterday. So I suppose our pre season record is technically won 1 lost 1?

Acclimatising for playing home games in an eerily empty quiet stadium. :bg:

There is a 125 page spread about the game on Mansfield’s forum.

If you haven’t noticed, it‘a a pretty fierce rivalry between us and our non-league neighbours across the M1.

I like to see the videos of them singing about us most Saturdays during the season, I just wish they made up some new ones.

We've been doing that since 2007. Quite sad when probably the biggest football crowd we will get this season was the England v Portugal women!

When you're a trialist this probably isn't the best thing to do if you wanna impress.
