We won 2-1 at Chesham with Sam Saunders and Craig Mackail-Smith scoring and a cock up from a defender on trial gave away the goal to Chesham.

.......Could be a cracker first up against Luton. They've been rattling in a fair few goals in pre-season.

Worryingly shipped a lot too - against ropey opposition on the whole. Tonight v Norwich should define things a little better. But a cracking first fixture either way

Already conceded 2 against Norwich! At least it looks the season might be quite entertaining!

With a virtual reserve team. That said, I’m surprised he’s not giving the first teamers more game time together in this game.

Depends who he likes as his defence really, Shea, Bradley, JJ of that line up could be termed as 1st 11 easily, especially with Stech being less than assured of the number 1.

Then Hylton, Rea, Shinnie also I’d call 1st team players who will play a lot of games this year. So 6 of the 11 are 1st team IMO and 3 of the back 5.

Only Senior and Read are truely not getting near the 11 this year of the line up that’s playing.

Finishes 1-3 with around 3000 in attendance.
Luke Gambin with the consolation for Luton.

I'm not the least bit interested in the results of friendlies. A couple of seasons ago we beat Brighton who got promoted to the PL that season while we fell away and lost the play offs so hardly an indication of whats to come. Of the starting XI only Hylton is guaranteed a place against Portsmouth. Shinnie, Rea and Justin will be on the bench although Justin had a good game I heard. Not sure about Bradley although you feel he needs further work before we see how he fits in to the defence.
The purpose of friendlies are to increase fitness and allow the management to test the work they do on the training ground as well as look at player combinations.
A good test therefore against an established Championship side. I'm sure we'll see a stronger side on Saturday.
The only worry for me tonight is Jervis. He didn't impress in league two and I can't really see him getting much game time in league one. A puzzling signing by NJ.

Hylton is definitely not guaranteed a place v Portsmouth. In fact he’s the only professional at the club you definitely isn’t going to be available for that game.

I'd completelty forgotten about that. Makes even more sense that Hylton is getting more game time then. A stupid rule that players don't start a NEW season with a clean slate.

The rule makes perfect sense IMO, because otherwise there is no deterrent. It was his own stupid fault.

As for the results of friendlies - I couldn’t really care that much either, but they can highlight trends. The defence needs work. That said, none of this matters come 9 days time - I have my ticket!

Your hope the defensive “issues” such as you can call them from ore season games, are simply because that’s the area that’s had the most change this season and therefore is taking some time to bed in. That’s the hope anyway!

Got to say though the marque signing Bradley hasnt really shown anything and has looked a little uncomfortable which is a concern IMO. Maybe we shouldnt sign anymore players from Plymouth!

Oh man, I'd love it if that was the case. Just imagine the end-of-season score settling that would go on! Want revenge for that achilles scraping you got from that snarky little full back in December? Wait for the final game and take him out at the knee, two minutes in. Off to the showers. Get a head start on everyone else heading off on holiday, and come back home with a clean slate. What's not to love!!

Bit like Grant Holt in his first spell at Dale. Normally got himself sent off on or about 16/12, to ensure a Christmas break...

We had Dave Kitson, the not so secret footballer, do that. Fans attitude to him started to change at that point. For the disruption he tried later he is generally disliked.

Beat Cork City away 4-1. We played 2 different 11's. They had a mixture of unfit first teamers as it was in the middle of their season. Chaplin x2, Jamal Lowe and Burgess from a corner

Beat Havant and Waterlooville 2-1 Nathan Thompson and Chaplin again. Again 2 seperate teams each half

Lost 3-2 to Stevenage. First teamers played an hour, then others got final 30 mins. Evans and Chaplin

Beat Gosport 3-0 The 2nd 11 played. Louis Dennis got 2 and One of the Academy lads got the 3rd

Beat Swindon 2-0 Hawkins and Lowe scored. First 11 expect Walkes played 90 mins

Drew 1-1 with Brighton. Strong team from Brighton. Was played over 3 x 25 mins. Pitman for us

Those who didn't start v Brighton played the same evening at Bognor. Won 5-1 , Young midfielder Adam May got a hattrick and two first year pros - Smith and Maloney scored

Just got Utrecht at home tommorow. KJ expecting the first 11 who start will be pretty much the team that plays Luton. Big test for us.

Hoping this season KJ and his physio have planned pre season and we don't get so many injuries

Kept our first clean sheet of the ore season today against Notts County. The starting back 4 would be the ones I imagine plays against Portsmouth and looked solid i thought. Quite liked the look of Pearson today.

Jorge Grant was very good I thought, and Pelly looks like he is continuing his form that ended last season, which is something of a revelation if that’s the case!

Very good draw against Utrecht at Fratton Park. Should have won it, but their keeper made a few good saves and we had a couple of offside decisions. Still 1-1 v a decent side. The lad from Ireland Ronan Curtis got MOTM. Really had a good game.
