Having just seen your squad list in another thread, I fail to see how you can say that with any certainty.
Well I can understand you thinking that, you have not seen them and the players we have brought in are very much under the radar, and yes you could argue some unproven.
Comparing the current squad of players in Paul Hurst's plans it is a big improvement on where we were at the beginning of last season.

Think we'll have a very average season. Finish around 14th.

I think we will struggle this season and would be happy to finish between 15th and 19th unless we get the 3 extra players we need in.

I think we're very much an unknown quantity.

New manager in charge with his own ideas of how to set up.

Last year under Cook we were hard to beat. Didn't concede many, but rarely put teams to the sword despite managing the lions share of possession.

This year with a front two favoured by Jackett, we have the potential to score goals. Whether that means we ship more in at the other end remains to be seen.

We're weaker in central midfield having lost Doyle without replacing him.

Enda Stevens loss to Sheffield United is a big one, but the lad from Huddersfield has impressed in pre-season at least.

If I had to call it now, i'd say upper half of mid-table. In truth we could finish anywhere judging by the competitiveness of this league. Recently promoted teams from div 4 generally seem to hold their own, so I think we'll be alright.

Does anyone want Gary Roberts?

Want to say we'll do better this year and finish in the playoffs, but the League seems so much tougher and so a finish similar to last wouldn't be bad.

For anyone that's interested I've come across a relatively insightful 40 min podcast that discusses the credentials for each of this years league 1 clubs in a reasonable amount of detail and puts them in order from bottom to top of where they predict they'll finish at the end of the season

Been listening for 15 minutes and they've got Rotherham in the bottom 4

Edit: Fuck me, they've got us in 15th and Rochdale in 14th now
Have these clowns ever watched football? Turning off now I think. They'll probably have Bury winning the league or something.

Sounds more like they're heading for Blackburn/Wigan Top 2 spots

Bradford second - Blackburn first.

Would disagree with Bradford being second. Think they look weaker than last season.

Nick Hext @ sky whoever he is.. has Charlton at 15th too

Not saying we're going to win the league or even finish in the play-offs but there is not a chance that we are going to finish two places below last season's position with a better manager and squad.

Rochdale and Oxford seem particularly low too and putting Rotherham in the bottom four is also ridiculous imo.

Swap us and Wigan around and it looks more realistic, providing we bring in a good CB.

Bradford look slightly weaker than last season but won't take more than a player or two to bring them back up to standard again. Mowbray is a proven failure at this level so can't see them taking the automatics. Fleetwood have done good business again this Summer and I expect them to be in and around the play-offs. Southend have held on to their better players and have added some experience, so should compete again. Bristol Rovers are on an upward curve and I think anything other than a play-off tilt would be a failure. Don't know enough about Wigan under Cook but they look to have proven L1 quality. Charlton are putting together a decent squad, but it takes Robinson three or four bites at the cherry to get his sides over the line. Rotherham have some decent players for this level, but Warne hasn't exactly impressed so far and they might still be hungover from last season's disaster.

No standout teams this year IMO. Strength and quality evenly distributed across division which is going to make for an interesting campaign. Treacherous market for the punter.

Unless we make 3 or 4 very good signings before the window shuts we’re not going to be in for a very good season. Alexander has been using 5-3-2 over pre season and I really can’t see that working. Gonna be a long campaign for us.

As it stands we don't have the personnel to challenge the top sides, at this rate we'll be recruiting up until the last minute of the window. We have a better front two than this time last year, midfield roughly about the same but defensively we're miles behind.
Wigan and Blackburn a predictable top two based on their squads, MK and Charlton just behind, the rest a toss up of at least half a dozen clubs to make up the top 6.

Love how they consider us a "big club" :eyes::2thumb: . They reckon we'll finish as high as 3rd. I'm not so confident. Think we are well in the mix, but expect top 8.

Only went on it to listen to the bit about us and they've referred to us as "the second biggest name in the division". That'll get them a few one star ratings on iTunes. :D

11th is above where I expect to be, and there are some teams below us, such as Oxford, Charlton and Peterborough who I doubt will be by the end.

I cannot see Rotherham anywhere near the bottom, and indeed expect them to be above us, but the prediction does give one a slight frission of enjoyment wondering how SERNWA will respond.

On PaperCharlton have a good starting 11 but depth may be an issue.....as well as an insane owner

We've still got 4 out of the back 5 (Vincelot, NKP, McMahon, Doyle) that conceded fewest goals per game for us last season. As a team we conceded joint least goals in the entire league with Fleetwood. Kilgallon has also re-signed as cover who was here last year. Just left back where we've seen a massive change. Can't see how we're 'miles behind'.

Think where we will struggle is midfield. We relied on Cullen a lot to screen the defence. The defence last year conceded a big proportion of goals to what I'd class as 'fuck ups' (including when McArdle was playing regularly incidentally). I'd go as far as to say I don't think the defence was brilliant, but they can't have faced many shots due to the way we protected them with possession. If Vincelot is in defence because we haven't sorted a proper centre back and Reeves isn't up to standard then that's where will fail.

Surprised that Blackburn are clear favourites at 4/1 considering the serious issues going on right now at that club.

18 senior players, not enough fit to name a full match day squad, with the season starting in 3 days time. Just 4 senior defenders. Heavily reliant on Graham upfront. The obvious doubts surrounding Mowbray. Mulgrew widely expected to leave.

Big 29 days ahead as they need at least 5/6 new signings. Be an interesting month to see how things unfold for them. wouldn't surprise me if things kick off like at Charlton last season.

A strong midfield with depth but they seem to have ignored the remainder of the team.

I still fancy Wigan for top spot, anything after that is anyone's guess. I think Bristol Rovers will do well and don't want to rule out Fleetwood. I fancy us, Gills, Walsall and I don't know the other to go down. Might go with heart and say Northampton.

If it makes you feel any better, I had Leyton Orient to get promoted and Stevenage to get relegated last season in League Two...

I think you’ll find the Don club only consists of Don 69 (our leader), Don Tonberry and myself. We all talk about how big our clubs are.
