We missed a lot more chances then you in that game, should have been about 4-1 up before you equalised. Think you were happy enough with a point.

I can see your point and share your concerns, however we played both of those games away - came from behind twice at FGR and played half the game at Dagenham with 10 men and a list of missing players as long as a Barrow unbeaten run. As a Rovers fan, I'm programmed to be cautious but I honestly believe we've got the best squad in the league.
I agree with you both. Forest Green were well on top in the first half and in both games it was a good point given the circumstances. However one of the signs of a side on the up is grabbing the undeserved wins. Rovers didn't seize their opportunities in that regard.

Does anyone know if this season Barrow have:
a) Knocked a Micky Mellon managed Tranmere side out of the FA Cup?
b) Beaten a woeful Eastleigh side in the league, 4-0?
c) Are currently 23 games unbeaten in ALL competitions?
d) All of the above?

I'd go back through a few threads but not sure it's been mentioned enough to get the answers required.

Luke Coulsen, Reda Johnson, Michael Green, Mika Mandron are all being saught after by Championship & Premier League clubs (Mandron either back to Sunderland or Newcastle) . So that will kill off our Play Off challenge & will allow Martin Allen to start building for next season.

You really are crackers aren't you?

I heard a rumour that they played them off the park in that cup game as well..... :animatedf:

Going to be a cracking title for once I feel. Us, Tranmere, FGR and Barrow ALL look capable of winning it.
With half the season left going to be plenty twists and turns yet.
Really looking forward to Saturday now with the FA Trophy farce hopefully sorted now.

Tranmere Rovers 2 - 0 Barrow AFC

Why do all Barrow fans conveniently forget about that LEAGUE match that actually counts towards the LEAGUE title? We're 3-2 up on aggregate so, with all due respect, pipe down.

To be fair, it's not all Barrow fans, just that chipmunx one. He has a strange obsession with pointing out that fa cup qualifier at least 2 or 3 times a week it seems.

I really hope that's just you having a laugh.
Otherwise I'd have to question your sanity.

I haven't seen much of the other sides at the top, except for Tranmere (FYI we beat them in the cup - they're clearly useless) so can't really say if one looks better than another.
So taking Barrow in isolation, I can't see us losing more than 2 or 3 league games in the rest of the season, but nor do I see us converting enough draws into wins to top the league. We will be a tough draw in the play-offs, just because we seem to be able to really step it up and do what's needed at home.
Again, with all the top sides still to visit Holker Street, that's got to be an advantage too. We won't lose more than one key player to the January transfer window despite the "rumours" (I hesitate to even label them as such, as it's mostly just bollocks spouted by one numpty on our forum), and we still have a few good players in reserve for when the fatigue kicks in for our regular XI.
Other teams will buy well too in a bid to get over the line, so I'll predict that whoever signs the best forward before Feb will be the one team to finish above us. I've got us down for play-offs final heartbreak.

We've done it already, Shamir Mullings, but he was cup-tied. Obviously I've had my scouts down in Chelmsford hence I can state this in confidence. :ds:

Not so sure January means anything? The window is never closed anymore as far as I'm aware.

We've signed Mangan, Tollitt, Almond and Dawson on permanent deals in between the "transfer window"

On that note can anyone confirm a sighting of Louis Almond? Last I heard he was struggling to get into the a team in our u15 11 a side practice.

FL teams can't buy outside of our window, though. Also easier to loan from FL Clubs because they can then replace any outgoings - something they can't do at the minute.

Be shocked if Reda gets another Championship club, great heart and great bloke but not a great defender. Top League One defender though absolutely shocked he's ended up at Eastleigh, no disrespect.

Looking at the striking options of the title challengers.

Tranmere have Cook, Mangan, Norwood, Jennings, Almond and Tolitt
Lincoln have Rhead, Robinson, Muldoon, Marriott and Arnold
FGR have Doidge, Moore, Marsh-Brown, Mullings and Frear
Dagenham have Hawkins, Maguire-Drew, Benson, Assombalonga and Okenabirhie
Barrow have Harrison, Williams, Bennett, Hannah and Hughes
Dover have Miller, Emmanuel, Marsh, Modeste and Lafayette

Who's looks the best?

I'd say Tranmere, just.

Muldoon is a winger who can play striker rather than being a striker per se, hence our need for a new one in January (or two if Robinson finds an FL Club at the end of his short term deal). I still think we'll be seeing Akinola at some point.

But yeah, I'd say Tranmere have the best on paper. Taking into account their options last season, too, I'm still not sure how they score so few.

Hopefully some scraps can be thrown off the table. Perhaps we can take him on loan?

We've scored 19 and conceded 6 in 10 league games under Mickey Mellon. Only criticism of our goal scoring is that our centre mids don't chip in enough.

dover for me. even without miller, they bang them in. it's only because they're so bad defensively that they're not romping the league.

You could and maybe should include Arnold for us the guy has got 8 goals so far this season, arguably our best player with Woodyard.
Granted he's a winger but an attacking player nonetheless.

Barrow have only used 3 strikers;- Harrison, Hannah and Bennett - the other 2 are wide men

Fair enough.

Williams seemed to be coming inside a lot at our place tbf, getting in the box and trying to get shots off. Only time I've ever seen him play.

I'll add Arnold, Tolitt and Frear to the lists then, as they are all attacking wingers as well. Most wingers can be used as false 9's anyway. Frear and KMB have been for us at times this season.

I seem to remember from listening in on the radio, Williams played most the second half as a striker at FGR, so it makes sense you'd view him as a forward. I think we'll see out the season with our three main strikers, and maybe bring someone in on loan if an injury crisis hits.

Dover have the best forward line, in my opinion, but I still think they're least likely to win the league.

Barrow beat Tranmere in the FA Cup. Therefore all this STRIKEFORCE talk is irrelevant.

Because Jennings is now always injured and can't score to save his life anyway. Mangan is a perma-crock and it seems Norwood only scores penalties. Cook is quality though, that's for sure.

Out of them all I'd still take poor, cash-strapped, little old Dover's strikers, who all play for a just tenner a match.

Haven't been to every game but: FGR looked very good for one half, but were completely outplayed second. Lincoln were very organised at our place, we struggled to break them down and they grabbed a 1-0. Brabin was still in charge then, but I'm not blaming him (for that defeat anyway), Lincoln defended well. Barrow were poor in the league game, routine 2-0 win, but dominated us in the cup, where I don't know if it's been mentioned but they beat a Micky Mellon team 2-1. Didn't go to Dagenham.
