I thought it was referring to the Goliath spider (which it seems I was mistaken about regardless, as it lives in Northern South America), but it'd be the Eastern Tarantula, and in that case, you're correct it does live in northern Queensland.

Not sure, I know they've got the most pointless bugs in the world that jump about 3-4 foot high and click as they do so. Make a great crunch when you squash them though.
