Speaking of war, here is a spectacular (and horrifying) image of both sides firing mortars at each other at night back in WW1.

Looks like round about my gaff for a fortnight up to and on 5th November every fucking year!

What is the German word for the specific emotion involved in deriving sexual pleasure from the process of imagining one's own ex-wife being homeless?

feindselig

feindselig (hostile) is a deriving sexual pleasure that you get from wishing your ex-wife being homeless?

I'd gone with: "Wieichihrwehselig"

but Babylon is my friend and gets more literal - "Die sexuelle lust, die sie wollen, um ihre ex-frau, heimatlose."

"Die sexuelle Lust, die Sie bekommen, wenn ihre ex-Frau obdachlos ist" would make more sense in this case.

I know I'm the last one who should correct someones attempts in a foreign language because I have my deficits in english grammar, too, ......but: "Babylon (or google translator or similar) isn't your friend" when you try to translate an english sentence into german. The grammar doesn't match and so this doesn't make sense (and so I've "corrected" it a bit). ;)

That's what I was hoping for. I did a year of German around 40 years ago. I got 34% and was 34th in a class of 34 - virtually the only exam result that I can remember.......and the teacher matched up expectations of a german teaching spinster in twin set and bun. My vocab has broadened only a little since then.

40 years ago? So you are more my age (53....and tomorrow even one year older :ffs:). I know this all too well. I had French as 2nd language in school, hadn't spoken nor written it for more than 25 years and then I applied for a job in Belgium (and later even France) and had to learn the whole thing again because I didn't know anything except basics.

btw: The above sentence that I corrected a bit is only one of several possibilities to do it. He's now grammatically "ok" but tbh it doesn't make sense because what man gets "sexual pleasure" about it, even when you "hate" your ex-wife.

btw: I am astonished that you learned German in school in the 70's. I thought German were a "no-go" at that time in England (and even today ) ;)

edit: Habbinalan : Is this the way to the school where you learned German? The "German teaching spinster" is symbolized on the left.

I'm misleading you. It was fifty years ago. Only language offered apart from french (and latin).

Why would it be a no go? We were all big buddies in the 60's, especially 1966.

I came across this post on another website and thought it was fascinating
"Would you believe that this photograph was taken more than a century ago?
This young woman, who looks like someone who might accidentally spill PBR on your shoes at an Avett Brothers concert, was probably born around 1899 or 1900.
These photographs were taken on the beach at Lulworth Cove, England in 1913, a year before World War I shattered the placidity of Europe.

The young woman's name is Christina O'Gorman. The photos were taken by her father, Mervyn O'Gorman, a 42-year-old British engineer who was experimenting with an early form of color photography called Autochrome Lumière, which used potato starch on a glass plate as a color filter.
These are some of the earliest color photographs in existence.

Christina is almost certainly dead by now. Though there are no records of her life, we can assume that she probably died in the 1980s or '90s. In these photos, however, she's still young. Still pretty. She still has her whole life before her.
A life that has now come and gone. One that's been over for decades now. And all that remains are these few photographs taken on pleasant afternoon in 1913."

I didn't say it had anything to do with schadenfreude - at the end of that clip Homer says "boy, those Germans have a word for everything". It was a joke in reference to your feindselig comment!
