I like Jimmy Kimmel but while I don't think he made light of it, he was trying to raise laughs in what is a totally unfunny subject matter.
His intentions were good, just misjudged IMO.
I actually didn't get that from him. I felt like he was much more serious than usual and he was trying to raise awareness on the problems of poaching. He's an entertainer, he can't get too heavy. I don't think he was explicitly looking laughs either really he's just dealing with an audience that is used to laughing at his every other word and who were unsure how to react when he discussed something like this.
