We have had a mad window, 9 in and 9 out incredibly.

We still have a first team squad of around 29, so needed to get rid of lots more deadwood. That being said we have shipped out a lot of experienced pros coming to the end of their careers and replaced them with youth and pace. Our team has already looked far more mobile and flexible. Of our last 4 we have drawn one away at Blackburn and won 3.

Because of that I am giving us an A. Major work was required and it has been done.

IN
Richard O'Donnell (GK)
Hildeberto Periera - LOAN (RW/Maverick)
Shay Facey (RB)
Jack Bridge (Winger)
Jordan Turnbull (CB)
Joe Bunney (LB)
Gboli Ariyibi - LOAN (LW)
Boris Mathis - LOAN (ST)
Kevin Van Veen (ST)

OUT
Lewis Mcgugan
Ryan Mcgivern
George Smith
Billy Waters (Loan)
Alex Revell
Dean Bowditch (Loan)
Marc Richards
Matt Ingram
Luke Coddington (Loan)

How would you rate your teams business this window?

What business? One in - Pigott from Maidstone who looks decent for £25K in the two cameos he's played so far. None out. Gazumped by Southend at the 11th hour for Ladapo, but no-one's losing any sleep over that. We did make an embarrassing video whinging about it though.

Shite. Lost van Veen and Madden and replaced them with Toney. Also brought in Marnick Vermijl, Ryan Yates and Cameron McGeehan. This league is shit. We haven’t played well all season and still find ourselves fourth

Ours started well, signed Whiteman on a permanent and ensured we kept Houghton until the end of the season plus Kongolo although the jury is out on him. The end of the window totally different having to draft in two centre half’s out of necessity due to 3 injuries within a week stopping us signing players in other positions we had targeted. Finally we have allowed probably our best youngster to go out on loan when he should be in our first 11.

Copy and Paste from the other thread.

Just ignoring our on field trouble for a minute our January has probably been meh, not terrible but not enough to take us to the next level (Results have put an end to that anyway).

Out:
Field
Hendrie
Barr

All squad cannon fodder, can only remember Luke Hendrie's first name such was their importance.

In:

Tall German striker
Ryan something an Australian defender
Can't remember their names and at work so not looking it up, but I expect Ryan to get game time, hopefully he's a decent right sided CB because we need one.

Other ins:
Matty Lund
Stephen Walnock
Callum Guy
I think Matty Lund will be our key signing, midfield has been woeful for the last month or so, hopefully he'll give it a kick up the arse. Walnock could be decent if his legs haven't gone, but with both full backs now back he'll probably be on the bench. Callum Guy is probably just in to replace Hendrie.

The best business of the window was probably keeping Wyke and McMahon.

Not McMahon's biggest fan but our last win was the last time he played, and our junior RB was poor then got ill and we've had to play a youngster from midfield there, plus he has 8 assists.

Wyke obviously the big one, top scorer we look dreadful whenever he doesn't play. Was supposed to be going to 7 championship clubs at one time or another ranging from £250k (lol) to £5mil (lol again), but our season was over if he left.

With injuries now coming back and hopefully one or two of the new players can stake a claim, if we get a couple of wins we could go on a run again to secure a play off spot. Feeling more confident for the next two days at least, lose to Oldham and fuck it seasons over.

A decent window for us.

5 in:
Cameron Brannagan (Midfield)- permanent
Rob Dickie (Centre-half) - permanent
Isaac Buckley-Ricketts (Wide midfield) - loan
Ashley Smith-Brown (Left back) - loan
Todd Kane (Right back) - loan

I suspect Kane and Smith-Brown could be made permanent if all parties are happy.

3 Out -
Jack Payne - recalled from loan
Charlie Raglan - loan
Xemi - released by mutual consent

Most areas of weakness (ie. Fullbacks) covered although could have done with a striker. Tbf, if reports are true we did try to sign a striker over the window. Also, we may finally have players with pace in the team.

Really good news that we kept Ryan Ledson and Simon Eastwood as well.

Van veen was excellent for you and Paddy Madden is a proven scorer, trust he will start on Saturday and is not barred from playing in this match
Fleetwood have seen 17 transfers in and out during January and no complaints about any of them, Coley off to Wigan, we have got Morelli from Middlesbrough and looking at his goals he could be more than useful, the emphasis is massively on youth ( Madden exc ) so all we need now is a few 3 pointers as we are uncomfortably near the wrong end of the table. Lost 4 on the bounce at home, heres hoping its 5th time lucky !

Terrible. We lost our promotion hopes last season with a poor January window and we might have topped that. We sold our main striker with a day to go and no replacement in mind. We still have a very inexperienced goalkeeper until Gilks returns. We’re in trouble.

Without doubt our best signing of the window came yesterday when our manager signed a two year contract extension. He's taken us from being nailed-on relegation certainties to 10th in a couple of months and our away record under him is astounding.

In:
Callum Reilly - MF - (Bury -loan)
Franck Moussa - MF - (Free)
Rhys Murphy - ST - (Free)
Navid Nasseri - MF -(Free)

Reilly looked an excellent and very astute signing on his debut and also performed well last weekend. Can't comment on the others as they haven't played a competitive game yet. Personally, I think they've been signed to bolster the squad depth rather than to slot into the 1st XI, although Moussa could depending on performances.

Out:
Steve Arnold - GK - (Barrow - Free)
Jesse Starkey - MF - (Released)
Stuart Nelson - GK - (Released)
Sean Clare - MF - (Sheffield Wednesday - End of Loan)

The loss of Sean Clare looked to be a big blow as he was probably our most creative player, but we seem to have dealt well with his absence. Nelson; it's a shame he departed in the manner he did given that he is third in the all time goalkeeper appearances list for the club, but he had become something of a liability in the last season and a bit. Starkey and Arnold's departures are no loss.

Last year we got stronger in January this year a little weaker. Losing Toums was not ideal and Wigan clearly benefitted from his absence. Losing Edwards to testicular cancer clearly has an effect on the side. Think we are a bit light if we get injuries or suspensions to key players. The plus side is we did not lose Carey, Taylor or Bradley. I would not be at all surprised if Adams tries to find a player, like Toums, who has been let go by a Championship side, and six months contract is better than none.

I would give this month six out of ten (but that includes the loss of Edwards as well as the transfers) whereas last year it was eight. Seven is par for me.

Happy with all the 5 signings and the fact we have not lost anyone.

Typical Paul Hurst all signings pretty much under the radar, it will be interesting to see if Luke Hendrie can make the step up in a better team than the one he left.

Not really got a huge amount to add. Shame we didn't get Clare but it's not the end of the world - 6 months ago we didn't know who he was! Reilly has been excellent in the 2 games so far, Moussa has decent pedigree and Murphy is another option up front which we needed. No idea whatsoever about Nasseri but again, we didnt know about Sean Clare before we signed him either so let's just wait and see on that one!

We've definitely got a stronger squad now than at the start of January, more balanced certainly. We didn't really need 4 keepers...

Why have you got them trendy racing car bench seats? We still use an old fashioned wooden one.

11/10 for us. Biggest coup is powell turning down a £10 million transfer to Brighton. We have strengthened our squad, dont think we have strengtened our main 11 but at least we have decent cover when injuries and suspensions kick in...

Powell said no to Brighton

Wigan forward Nick Powell turned down the chance to join Premier League Brighton on deadline day, despite the Seagulls eventually offering £10m for the former Manchester United player.

The Latics - top of League One and with an FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester City to look forward to - were keen to hold on to their star men and twice rejected bids earlier in the day.

In the end though, it was Powell who took the decision to remain at the DW Stadium.

Got this from the BBC website.

Ours was a shambles let’s be honest. The only bonus was we kept Wyke.

We probably needed a good keeper (don’t trust Doyle and the German keepers are even worse; didn’t even hear we were in for a keeeper), a decent young right back (so we can bid adieu to Tony McMahon who’s messed us about for a year and isn’t even that good; we tried to sign Mellor from Blackpool, failed miserably and got a young loanee in), a centre back to keep NKP and Kilgallon on their toes (got rid of Thompson and signed McGowan, never seen him play but at least they’ve tried with this) and wingers (we’ve only got Robinson and Gilliead as recognised first teamers and they’re both injured; not heard us in for a winger).

I get you can’t do all these in Jan and I’d imagine we might go back for Mellor in the summer. But you’ve got to chalk it up as a poor return.

The two areas we probably didn’t need anyone in as long as we can coach players back to form and fitness was centre mid and striker. We’ve signed an extra centre mid (Lund) on top of the 27 we already have and we signed another striker (Brunker) and put bids in for at least 2 more (Keiffer Moore and Kristian Dennis, both failed obviously). I’d question our priorities?

More than that it was the fact that we definitely had money available going in to this window and our glorious chairman and head of recruitment had been saying we’d be in for people and we had targets scoped out for weeks, which I don’t dispute but then they weren’t willing to pay for them?? It all descended into farce.

I’m not slitting my wrists as if everyone gets firing again we’ve got a decent enough squad for this league but the window itself has been shambolic and poorly handled. Wonder what McCall must be thinking!

Edit: just to tag a further failing on we didn’t manage to get any of the young uns out on loan, can’t see the point of people like Devine, Pybus, Patrick, Gibson sitting on the bench for 6 months personally.

We paid off a few squad players in Main, Bennett, Lalkovic and Talbot. Bought in 4 loans. Ronan and Deslandes from Wolves, Walkes from Spurs and got back Stephen Henderson to add experience in goal. Shame as I don't think McGee was doing too bad, although we've conceded a few late goals and some set pieces which maybe KJ has put on McGee. We desperately needed a tough tackling Central Midfielder and something different/more mobile up top. As it is, Walkes can play centre mid or at the back, but is only 20. Ronan is a play maker, but is only 19. Deslandes is a left back, but again only 20. I think we struggled having not being able to get rid of Bennett and Lalkovic sooner in the window. We missed out on Derby's Jamie Hanson who looked like a good option for midfield.

A very, very good window for us:

Ins:

George Cooper - Crewe - Undisclosed
Joe Ward - Woking - Undisclosed
Omar Bogle - Cardiff - Season Loan

Outs:

Ricky Miller - Mansfield - Season Loan
Jordan Nicholson - Barnet - Undisclosed
Callum Chettle - AFC Fylde - Season Loan

On top of some very good signings, we managed to extend Jonathan Bonds loan from Reading until the end of the season and most importantly managed to keep hold of Marcus Maddison and Jack Marriott. (We rejected a bid for Marriott of £4.75m with a further £2.5m in add ons).

With the squad as it is now, if we don't get at least a play off place this season will be a massive failure.

Fair enough to Powell for turning down the money to guarantee football, especially as he's playing well he could quite easily have moved, been stuck on the bench and his career would have stagnated.

However I'm not convinced that is the reason behind him staying, nor a love of Wigan.

Look at his career, more or less all in the North West, you see it all the time with certain footballers who care more about location than their careers at times. I'd guess he'll never permanently move to a club outside the North, but I thought the same with Dack and the South East so you never know.

Either way, it's great news for Wigan and probably secures the league.

Outs:
Joe Bunney - excellent left foot crosser, but still learning as a converted fullback. Better to get some money for him now than nothing in the summer, although if the Cobblers convert him back to a striker and he scores the goals that keep them up at our expense it will be a tad annoying.
Donervon Daniels - decent, solid defender - recalled by Wigan
Jordan Williams - struggled since his move from Barrow. A loan spell at Lincoln might end up in us getting a more confident player back next season.
Jordan Slew - showed only brief glimpses of form.

Ins
Ryan Delaney (Burton) - made a promising debut at Millwall
Billy Knott (Lincoln, loan) - can hopefully slot in just behind the forwards, releasing Ian Henderson to go back up front, where he's at his best.
Stephen Humphrys (Fulham, loan) - sounds promising, we were after him in the summer but couldn't agree terms, etc with the Cottagers. Hopefully offers more than Slew showed.
Sam Hart (Blackburn) - don't know much about him, but will hopefully provide competition at left wing/back
Alex Dobre (Bournemouth loan) - described by my friends from Gigg Lane as extremely fast but limited end product. We'll see. Strangely reminded of the old Posh/Southend? player Dominic Iorfa on that description - who I always liked watching as you never knew quite what would happen when he got the ball... :-)

In:

Michael Smith - Could be one of those strikers who just needs a bit of confidence in front of goal and could start firing the goals in and he will get better service to do that now surrounded by better players, could turnout to be a shrewd signing we shall see.

Matty Palmer - Looks a great signing with bags of talent at only 22 years old aswell but his contract runs out of the end of the season and must have thought we are the best option for him because theres every chance we could be swapping leagues with Burton next season hopefully.

Caolan Lavery - Only a loan till end of the season but adds something different to what we have, looks like a fox in the box type of striker by getting in the right place to finish and looks pretty quick on his feet aswell. I can't see him starting many games but great option to have on the bench.

Out:

Alex Bray - Only seen him play once for about 10 mins, he had one touch and crossed it into stand.

Richard O'Donnell - Surprised we let him go before Price because he's way better and the keeper we have now is only young and still learning and makes the odd mistake.

Johnson Clarke-Harris - Has all the attributes to rip this league to shreads but for whatever reason every manager we have had don't seem to give a run of games to try install some confidence in him. I wouldn't be surprised if bangs a few goals in for Coventry.

Lee Frecklington - What can i say other than club legend, score so many big goals at vital moments been a great 5 or 6 years or so watching him play. Unfortunately now his legs looked have gone now and suffers alot injurys aswell but he his back at the club where it all started for him now and i wish him well.

Meh! We got Pigott in who appears to be worth the rumoured £25k we paid for him. As said above we were gazumped for another player. No-one out yet and nobody else in. I'll live with that as long as the goals go in - no issues on the defence front.

OUT:
Zeli Ismail - End of loan (Bury) - Huge loss, started slow but was our best played in November/December. With his departure we only have one real winger who is horribly out of form. Forced into shoehorning Mr Versatile Joe Edwards onto the wing or going to a 3 at the back.
Shaun Donnellen - End of loan (West Brom) - Was backup, no great loss.
Dan Agyei - End of loan (Burnley) - Was average at best, no great loss.
James Wilson - End of loan (Sheffield United) - Big loss, especially since he's gone to League 2, left us in a bit of a lurch with only 2 senior (barely) centre halves for January.
Tyler Roberts - End of loan (West Brom) - Huge loss, destined for big things. Left our squad with a huge drought in quality now he's gone. Class act.
Simeon Jackson - Loan (Grimsby) - Was the butt of the joke since he joined at the start of last season. Has been poor in front of goal and was always caught offside for us, the fans got on his back a little bit and apparently he has been kept out of the squad since the opening day of this season because of this. Feel for him a little bit till I remember he is the highest earner of our tiny budget, then I lose that feeling quick. I have no clue if he will be good in League 2.

In:
George Dobson - Permanent (Sparta Rotterdam) - Had him on loan last season and he improved a lot over the year he was here. Went to Holland in the summer but is now back permanently. Good signing who brings what we've been missing in midfield in that he can pass and create from deep.
Justin Shaibu - Loan (Brentford) - Who? Young striker from Brentford. Their fans think highly of him but he seems like more of a squad loanee..
Jack Fitzwater - Loan (West Brom) - Backup centre half to bolster our short numbers there. No clue if he is any good or not, almost a like for like replacement for Donnellen as their both back up center halves from West Brom.
Krystian Bielik - Loan (Arsenal) - Centre half. Meant to be quality and will walk this league apparently. I hope so as we need some quality at both ends, injured for our six pointer against MK tomorrow though so that ain't great.
Julien Ngoy - Loan (Stoke) - Who? Another unknown young striker, this time from Stoke. Good be dog poo, could be world class. Though he is only one letter from Ngoo, the worst striker I have ever seen in a Walsall shirt, so that ain't a good omen.

Also apparently Luton beat us on deadline day to signing of Jake Jervis for £125k, he was driving up to sign for us but detoured to Luton when his agent called him of their interest. Would have really liked a wide player, and one with experience too, but for that price I'm oddly relieved. He'll probably barely play for Luton anyway with their squad.

Pretty poor window, especially with the board today coming out in a meeting saying that we had funds to spend throughout the window... only for us to make one free permanent signing and 4 young loanees... hmm. 3 out of 5 came on deadline day too, I know it ain't that simple but why do we consistently leave it so late?
