Well that’s probably all our business done for the summer, bar maybe a centre mid to replace flemo. My starting 11 for the Grimsby match would be -

Halstead

Buxton Lavelle Sutton Cranston

Alessandra Tutte Wildig O’Sulivan

Miller Stockton

A good starting 11, it’s the size of the squad that worries me a little, doesn’t help when 3 of our best players are made out of glass.
Was Miller playing in Crewe's pre-season games? Just wondering if he's gonna be match ready or not. 500+ tickets to sold STH apparently and on general sale from today, should be at least 1000+ of us there, I'd have thought.

Just the one friendly left, so pretty good idea of what our team will look like v Oldham.

GK

Rawson M. Mills McGinley

Bernard Dawson Morton J. Mills

Williams McCoulsky Collins

Bench will be the rest of the squad unless we sign anyone else before then, what with Shepard probably not fit yet by then and Winchester banned after being sent off in the playoffs. We're hoping to sign another keeper before then who will probably start, most likely be a loan from the Prem or Championship as has usually been the case in recent seasons.

That's probably our best side with the players signed up. Yet if Jules leave, Theo Vassell could replace him and if Jay Harris signs, he would replace Ntambwe.

Our strongest 11 now in my opinion now is:

GK: Alex Palmer
CB: Will Aimson
CB: Niall Canavan
CB: Gary Sawyer
RWB: Joe Riley
LWB: Callum Mcfadzean
CDM: Joe Edwards
CM: Danny Mayor
CM: Conor Grant
ST: Dom Telford
ST: Ryan Taylor

Subs: Mike Cooper, Scott Wootton, Ashley Smith-Brown, Antoni Sarcevic, Joel Grant, Byron Moore, Klaidi Lolos.

Still think we need another centre back, another CDM, and a striker. Lolos has impressed in pre season, but there are question marks as to whether he can do it in league football. Niall Ennis from Wolves and Zach Clough from Forest are the two names mentioned.
That seems pretty close to what it will be against Crewe. I watched both goalies carefully yesterday, as did my lad who is a keeper, and we were both more impressed by Cooper, but it was only a training session. Agree we are at least one CB light, especially as Aimson has not played yet. I suspect Baxter, who we signed yesterday, is pencilled in to play next to Mayor rather than Grant.

I’m sure he played a few times for them this pre season. And he had a good run out last night and will again on Saturday so would be pretty confident he will be in the starting 11, especially with AJ Leitch-Smith Injrued. Should be a really good game, think your and our squad is a big improvement on last seasons.

I would say this is our strongest 11 at present (taking out long term injuries):

GK - Scott Flinders
RWB - Sean Long
CB - Charlie Raglan
CB - Ben Tozer
CB - Will Boyle
LWB - Chris Hussey
CM - Rohan Ince
CM - Chris Clements
CAM - Ryan Broom
CF - Tahvon Campbell
CF - Luke Varney

Not a bad first 11 - still need someone in the middle of the park though. The big problem is that the bench has Connor Thomas, Rhys Lovett (one league game in his life), Dan Bowry and Josh Debayo as our only other professional players.

Apparently though we're not allowed to be concerned because Duffo knows what he's doing...

DISCLAIMER - I am a massive Michael Duff fan and I do believe we'll be ok, but the lack of numbers is a concern and any Cheltenham fan who isn't concerned must have their heads stuck in the ground.

Looks big, but a lot of those higher numbers are young lads. Think we still need a CB, CDM and ST, but we are pretty much done. Expect a loan signing soon.

Not a particular bash against Plymouth, but am I alone in hating this '12. Green Army/Twelfth Man' bollocks? Does anyone actually give a shit? Do the players or manager? Do the fans? Will it get more people to come to games? Will it lead to an increase in atmosphere or improve the game day experience? It just comes across as such a horrible tacky cliche.

You keep saying no strikers. What is Hope then? Because I thought he came through at Everton as one and played most of his time with you as one? McKirdy could definitely be one, that's where he played for us. Might lack the physical attributes to be a good one, but he can play there, if alongside a target man.

What's happening with Hope anyway? Any interest? Any valuations set and not matched?

Hope has played most of his time with us as a left winger, his best football has come from that position, but obviously the way things are he’ll be starting as our central striker as we’ve got no one else.

No one will be playing as a striker alongside a target man, we don’t play a formation with 2 strikers.

We've turned down 3 bids for Hope according to our football director Holdsworth (but it might be lies as he often doesn’t tell the truth), he says that if a club meets our valuation he’ll be sold.

Assuming we will start next week with the same lineup as today.

GK: Rory Watson

RB: Jordan Clarke
CB: Harrison McGahey
CB: Andy Butler
LB: Kgosi Nthle

DM: Yann Songo'o
CM: Matty Lund
CM: Regan Slater

RW: Alex Gilliead
LW: Adam Hammill
ST: Lee Novak

Defense, midfield and wingers are all class. Hammill especially should not be playing at this level Worry about the keeper and the strikers though.

The only player to walk into our first XI would be Hammill. You’ve a good core and I expect you to be up there, though.

The interest was from Blackpool mainly it seemed, don't know then if all three bids were from them, but then their manager quit and it hasn't seemed like the new manager has renewed the interest. Think they bought in a player in Hope's position the other day too.

Hope's problem throughout his career seems to have been that he doesn't really fit a 4-4-2 or 3-5-1 Neither a winger nor a centre forward but somewhere in-between, he's more like an inside-forward in a 4-3-3 that nobody really plays any more.

No squad numbers for us yet but we've been numbering players consistently in pre-season, with senior players getting their names on their backs so I'm guessing that's the numbers they'll be wearing (or we're wasting kits for no good reasons)

1. Adam Collin (GK)
2. Christie Elliott (RB)
3. Jack Iredale (LB)
5. Jon Mellish (CB/LB)
7. Nathan Thomas (LW)
8. Mike Jones (CM)
9. Hallam Hope (LW/CF)
10. Stefan Scougall (CM)
11. Harry McKirdy (RW)
17. Byron Webster (CB)
19. Jack Bridge (CM)
20. Keighran Kerr (CF)
21. Kelvin Etuhu (CM)
22. Louis Gray (GK)
23. Jarrad Branthwaite (CB/RB)
27. Nathaniel Knight-Percival (CB)

Etuhu hasn't featured in pre-season but I imagine he'll wear 21 again. I imagine Josh Galloway will be given number 18 as that's what he's been wearing after Dixon got injured but his name hasn't appeared on his back as yet as he isn't a senior player. Dixon likely won't be given a number seeing as he isn't expected to feature at all this season.

And you know this piece of information that isn't on the club's website, either twitter account or in the News and Star how?

My 9 yr old cousin wanted the new shirt with a players name on it (Hope but I talked him out of it because he might leave, so went with Scougall) so I asked in the club shop if the squad numbers that they’ve all been given for preseason are the confirmed squad numbers and they said yes. I wanted further assurance so emailed the club and they again said yes, the only one that was subject to change was Brunt as despite being allocated 14 he was only on trial with view to a loan.

The clue as you say is the fact they’ve already printed the names on the shirts as well as the skybet badges on the sleeves. It would be a complete waste of kit if they were to all change after that.

A lovely little insight into your family life. I take it your cousin is still waiting to attend his first United game once you've assured him there's a game we're not 100% certain to get hammered in.

Bradford must have some quality midfielders if a fully fit Matty Lund would miss out on a place. He'd certainly get in our first XI if we still had him. So, possibly, would Harrison McGahey and Kgosi Ntlhe.

How the hell did Scunny (and Bradford for that matter) achieve relegation last season?

Injuries mostly really. We did sign quite poorly the summer before though.

Don't think we had a player in the team that didn't miss at least 1 game through injury. Three of our best players, Lund, Colclough and Morris were all out for extended periods of time.

If we had all them fit we'd have done better but still not great as our defense was so poor. Charlie Goode, Rory McArdle and Cameron Burgess were simply not L1 standard. You could count on one of them to make an error leading to a goal every game.

I rated Lund when he was here the other year, but he’s very much in the mould of Matty Palmer, who I rate more.

Last season’s relegation was largely due to off-field shenanigans, which have now been rectified.

That should scare the shit out of most defences.

That’s because you’ve been hobnobbing it in L1. They’ll all scare you as they play in gimp masks.

Their scoring record is on a par with your front 2 over the past couple of seasons.

Ah sound, so they have recent Championship experience too.

Next season should be fiercely competitive.
