He's capable of being special - but he's not a team player and that comes through more when you're struggling.Unfortunately not. He managed one goal in 500 minutes for us. He's clearly got the physical capabilities to play at a very high standard and shows glimpses of very good technical ability, it's the thing between his ears that stops him being an effective player. His decision making is poor and he seems to posses no attacking instinct whatsoever.
Bizzarely Ian Evatt has likened him to Ivan Toney and it looks like we might sign him on a permanent this summer
“I think Dan has so many tools and I have said to him that I’d love to work with him on a full-time basis because I think there is a real player in there. This is a massive comparison but I see him as an Ivan Toney type. He can have a similar journey, he just needs coaching and some time. Given that I think we can make him into a real player. He has bought into us as a football club, he has enjoyed playing here, and we have seen flashes of what he can do.”
I lost count of the number of times in the first half of the season when he simply downed tools because we'd gone a goal down, or a player went for a shot rather than passing to him (when he's clearly marked out of a game). He also has this annoying habit of making a killer pass and then admiring it rather than busting a gut to get into the box for the return ball.
Despite all that, he scores bloody brilliant goals - his goal against Cambridge was on our shortlist for goal of the season.
