Unfortunately not. He managed one goal in 500 minutes for us. He's clearly got the physical capabilities to play at a very high standard and shows glimpses of very good technical ability, it's the thing between his ears that stops him being an effective player. His decision making is poor and he seems to posses no attacking instinct whatsoever.

Bizzarely Ian Evatt has likened him to Ivan Toney and it looks like we might sign him on a permanent this summer :ffs:

“I think Dan has so many tools and I have said to him that I’d love to work with him on a full-time basis because I think there is a real player in there. This is a massive comparison but I see him as an Ivan Toney type. He can have a similar journey, he just needs coaching and some time. Given that I think we can make him into a real player. He has bought into us as a football club, he has enjoyed playing here, and we have seen flashes of what he can do.”
He's capable of being special - but he's not a team player and that comes through more when you're struggling.

I lost count of the number of times in the first half of the season when he simply downed tools because we'd gone a goal down, or a player went for a shot rather than passing to him (when he's clearly marked out of a game). He also has this annoying habit of making a killer pass and then admiring it rather than busting a gut to get into the box for the return ball.

Despite all that, he scores bloody brilliant goals - his goal against Cambridge was on our shortlist for goal of the season.

You can see the ability is there with N’Lundulu. Unfortunately, doesn’t show it enough. Good luck to him though.

We saw both sides to N'Lundulu this season.
He looked like he was definitely playing for himself away at Cheltenham blaming everyone else and not trying to get the ball back when he lost it.
Then recently at home v Bolton he came on and scored a great goal.
Definitely a player there if he sorts out his attitude

Lots of clubs seem to have a lot of players under contract - 13 or 14. Seems quite a burden to be taking into the next season.

It all depends, really. Of our 14 retained, we're hoping to ship two out the door for small fees, and another 3 or 4 are youngsters who aren't earning much and may be sent out on loan. We've been told that they're looking to bring in 9 or 10 which would bring us up to 18/19 players, with a few loans bolstering the numbers.

Still a fairly big overhaul and gives Mousinho and Rich Hughes scope to stamp their mark on the squad. I'm pleased that we have a decent nucleus there with Bishop, Morrell, Pack, Rafferty, Raggett etc. Still a chance that we may sell either Bishop or Morrell when the window opens if a big offer comes in though.

A little bit more news from us today. Elliott List, who was already under contract for next season, has signed an extension to his deal and Josh March, one of five who were in discussions to stay, has signed a new contract.

Another one of the five question marks was Jake Reeves, he's decided to join Wimbledon which is disappointing news. We missed him last season when he wasn't available. I wouldn't have been fussed if he'd left us 12 months ago in all honesty but he played a significant role in our promotion. He provided a lot of energy and usually kept the ball on the deck but wasn't his best when under pressure. I figured he'd sign a new deal and be a semi-regular starter for next season. Wish him well at Wimbledon.

Interesting that we've given List a contract extension, he was injured on the opening day vs Tranmere and then didn't play another minute last season. Was with Steve Evans at Gillingham in League One when we signed him (I think) so a little surprising to see him sign an extension when on the face of it there was no reason to do so (he was already under contract and we haven't seen him since his recovery). He was one of our best players through our shite seasons so I'm not disappointed with the news just a bit surprised.

Of the five out of contract players yet to sign, March was probably the one I was least worried about signing on. Not a slight on the player, we just didn't see much of him. He signed in January on deadline day, played a handful of games over a 6 week period and then picked up a season ending injury. Bit of an unknown from our perspective, fingers crossed he can make a positive impact next season.

We did the same with Montsma when he did his ACL. Had 18 month or so left to run but we gave him another year (and has done his ACL again!).

Not too surprised, I thought it was a weird move to Bolton tbh and especially Evatt's comments. As you say, his football brain is pretty much non-existent, it'll be his physical attributes that keeps him at L1/L2 level long term but he'll probably not get too many chances to get a top L1 side.

That seems to be fairly normal at this level because you see far more longer deals handed out than in L2 for example. Obviously no good if half of them are shite but that's the risk with a longer term view of squad building!

Standard for Posh to transfer list players with a year left on their deal. Suspect they'll be happy to keep JCH next season and risk losing him if they don't go up next season.

Pym will definitely be gone, he doesn't get on with Fergie I don't think?

Yeah and also put a (now deleted) instagram post up criticising his tactics following the 2nd leg play off game.

We get 20% of any profit they make on JCH so hopefully someone will bid big.

I can't see it being a big offer with a year left on his deal. £500k max.

Maybe not. Currently the golden boot winner so may be a few teams bidding for him

Oh yeah no doubt they'll be offers but it won't be anything over £1m. DMAC may just end up keeping him but it was rumoured he wanted out in Jan.

1 million is nothing for a proven striker though and he scored 12 goals in the Championship for a relegated side so we are hoping its more.
Apparently we got a 5 figure fee for him winning the golden boot this season too

Proven striker with a year left and wants out. That set's pricing tumbling.

Ah I didnt realise he wanted out I just thought they put all players on the TL with a year left on their contract. That doesnt usually stop them getting good fees for their best players though

Josh Knight played for us on loan for a while, maybe we'll have a sniff. Decent player from what I recall, if occasionally a bit rash on the discipline side.

Think we’ll be after Nathan Thompson and Tomlinson. Pym has been mentioned but I reckon he’s crap.

Any info on whether Archie Collins is going to sign his contract extension at Exeter?

I'm hoping we have made an offer as he'd be a good addition, fit in with our style of play and wouldn't have to up roots!

Not a clue to be honest, but GC has said he'll be contacting them looking for answers after half term, to give the players some time to go on holiday and relax

He's been siting on that offer for some time so you would think he would have committed already if he was staying....maybe holding out for more but you have a tight low wage structure and I'm sure other clubs could offer a big wage increase

Ours is out. Not that many of you will have a clue who any of these League 2 boys are!

Players already contracted for the 2023/24 season: Jack Armer, Ryan Edmondson, Jack Ellis, Joe Garner, Callum Guy, Jayden Harris, Tomas Holy, Paul Huntington, Owen Moxon.

Players with clauses activated for the 2023/24 season: Gabriel Breeze, Jordan Gibson, Max Kilsby, Jon Mellish, Corey Whelan.

Players offered new deals: Taylor Charters, Kris Dennis, Morgan Feeney, Omari Patrick.

Second-year scholars who have graduated: Kai Nugent.

Players released: Lewis Bell, Jamie Devitt, Brennan Dickenson, Josh Dixon, Sam Fishburn, Mick Kelly, Joel Senior, Tobi Sho-Silva, Scott Simons.

Loan players returning to their parent club:Fin Back, Ben Barclay, John-Kymani-Gordon, Alfie McCalmont and Jack Robinson.

I’m quite surprised with some of the decisions to keep certain players. But I'm not going to question Simpson’s judgement after what he’s just done.

Did Hunts have a good season in the end?

He did. He had a few moments though and got absolutely burned for pace on a few occasions like against Bradford in the playoff semi. But yes overall an excellent season, capped off with a man of the match display (in my opinion) in the final on Sunday.

He’s injury prone, but Omari Patrick would suit Wellens style IMO. Quick, tricky and capable of scoring goals like he did the other day.

Just seems to always be injured!

How pacey/athletic is Feeney? He seems to be a solid young defender in a ‘head it, kick it’ sense from what I’ve seen, but not sure how good he is defending in space. Just wondering if he’d be one we’re interested in.

He’s sort of an inbetween as in he’s not what I’d call pacey and athletic, but I wouldn’t describe him as slow either. He reads the game well for his age, and just seems to get himself in good positions so that he doesn’t find himself having to be in a foot race with anyone. I really rate him and I’d be sad to see him go. He’s definitely one of the players in our squad who I think can step up to this level.
