So the rumour goes.

SVH is in the know, y'know.

It's obvious many people will be underwhelmed with this however, I'm excited by the fact he has every chance of surprising us. We do have a good squad, hopefully he can inspire a few (ALL) of them.

A rookie manager with just a relegation on his CV. Magnificent.

All I can say is In Jez We Trust.

Hope he convinces Alan Smith to re-unite with him.

Abbott very likely.

Football was dull when we didn't have any pace or trickery on the wings. His signing record was fairly poor. I think that could have been partly down to our complete lack of scouting network at the time though

Joe Dunne is staying as assistant manager, rest of the previous coaching staff remain too.

He's the only manager to last over a year under the current owners so in that regard he qualifies as something of a football genius.

I think a few of the Notts fans on here have been a bit harsh, he turned round a side that was complete dogshit under Kiwomya into a really good unit, avoided relegation and then got us to third in the table about this time last year. Obviously went massively pear shaped then, as it seems to with every Notts manager nowadays.

I would have him back over the current idiot every day of the week. Good luck to him at Cambridge.

Under Abbott (dodged a bullet there Cambridge fans) we didn't have a scouting network either... I sense a pattern. It handicapped Kavanagh hugely in his bid to keep us in League One (although the more and more terrible decisions Kav made, the less he could use that as an excuse)

Anyone who'd have Derry back over Moniz is insane. Far from convinced by Moniz but I was bored shitless for at least the last six months of his reign. We are at least vaguely interesting and score/win at home every now and again this season.

I think you're being a little kind on the way he turned Kiwomya's team round also. He thought we were down so threw Hollis, Thompson, Murray and Spencer in who were all great. We were fucking terrible for the first six months of his reign too.

So Derry it is, think there's quite a few of us that need convincing that he's the right man for the job but I'd to think he'll get the support he needs from the terraces, he will from me anyway and obviously the board as its a 2 1/2 yr deal.

He's inheriting a decent side which is maybe a little short in certain areas but a lot of the foundations are in place for him to succeed, it's just a case of him walking the walk now.

This could go really well.

When I look at the alternatives, I don't see the same up-side. He'll do for me for now.

I'm reasonably open minded, it's difficult to judge him on his time at Notts County as he wasn't there long and they were relegated after his departure. It's got the potential to go well or very badly but we're relatively safe this season so it's the right time to take that gamble.

He's got my backing and I'm quite excited about his appointment. He certainly talks a good game so let's home he can manage one too.

Thats a very kind way to put it. The relegation was his fault, just because he left before the ship crashed like the Captain of the Concordia doesn't mean it wasn't

I obviously didn't follow Notts County's season then but surely Derry's replacement must have been partly to blame since County dropped rather than rose after his departure?

That said, it has little bearing on his appointment with us. As with players, managers do develop through experience etc.

No-one said Moniz was doing well, he isn't. Just better than Derry was.

Didn't Derry sign the best striker in the league for County? Jimmy Spencer.

That's only your opinion RB. PufferJacket's opinion is different as he said he would take Derry over Moniz every day of the week.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Derry is the messiah as I don't know if he's a good appointment or not. However I think it's not fair to judge him based on his results at County, as so far not one manager has proved to be a success there, and that means the problem isn't who the manager is but what's going on behind the scenes.

Derry is here now, and the question is if he's able to improve our results or not. No one knows, however I'm sure my fellow U's fans will join me and give him time and support.

Whatever makes you feel better I guess. That's quite clearly a completely wrong statement though.
