Very sad news of the passing of Chris Barker aged just 39. Taken way too soon.

Chris made over 500 Football League appearances.

He started his youth career at Alfreton. He went on to enjoy a non league career with Hereford,Weston Super Mare and Aldershot Town where he went on to become assistant manager. A very sad loss. RIP

Chris was probably the nicest man you could ever meet in the game. The stuff he did for me and my family when my Dad passed away went way beyond anything any club manager would do. On the field, a fierce competitor but a gentleman with it. Off the field, the ultimate clubman and ambassador with time for everyone.

Today I am truly saddened to hear of his passing, the world is a lesser place for him not being in it. If the reports of him taking his own life are true, then if anyone else is struggling, please, please talk to someone. One person taking their own life is one too many.

Rest in peace Chris, thank you for everything, and massive condolences to your family, friends and those who had the privilege of knowing you.
