I'm surprised he's chosen to go back to Mourinho given the fact he didn't give him a chance to prove himself at Chelsea previously before selling him off to Everton. Then you have the fact he appears to be choosing a team that finished 24 points behind the other, who are also the current champions. One can only presume United are doing what United do in recent seasons by throwing the kitchen sink at him in terms of wages,

Unlike Scruff and Renegade, you're happy with what United have turned into since Ferguson left I presume? In terms of spunking money on success, they're little more than another version of City and Chelsea. The difference is that it's actually worked for them.

Been saying for a while that I need to start actually talking about football more on here, so why not return this summer while we're having a ridiculous transfer window?

I am surprisingly alright with this. Dont get me wrong, Im not saying Im glad he's gone or Id rather he go than stay, obviously in a perfect world Id rather he stayed. But he's had his eye on leaving since the day he signed, and it's always been a case of when he leaves not if. I said last summer that I was certain he would stay for at least one more year, because I didnt think he had done quite enough to justify being wanted by the kind of top clubs who could also afford him. And naturally nobody came in last summer so he stayed. And had his best scoring season of his career, so he has now opened a few eyes, and bigger clubs are now willing to pay it, so off he pops. Point is, even though he always had his eye on the exit, it turned out to be a phenomenal deal for us. I remember a few people, all over the internet, on here, Twitter and other forums I use mocking the deal at the time, saying £28 million was a ridiculous amount of money, he'd be gone in a year, he wasnt that good, and we'd lose money on him. Well look how that turned out? 4 years (one on loan), 87 goals including 2 hattricks and a 4 goals against Bournemouth, multiple club records broken, and the best goalscorer seen at the club since Tony Cottee. Yeah he was a lazy get sometimes, his first touch is frankly toxic, and like most of our team, had quite a record of not turning up in the bigger games. But then thats been an Everton problem for a generation or two. Overall, an unbelievably good signing for us, and the fact that he has now about to do a Stones and go to someone else after Chelsea have done their usual tapping up through the press for the last 2 years, Im even more made up.

As for how will he do for United, all that of course remains to be seen. Nailed on that Twitter will be full of virgins cryarsing about how lazy he is every week if he doesnt score (and sometimes, even when he does!) Its totally true that he is the definition of a flat track bully player. Scores 3 and 4 against Bournemouth and Sunderland, then looks like little boy lost at Anfield and Old Trafford. I think one of the reasons even when we have turned up in these big games and he's still been poor, is that on the big stage, he gets very greedy and selfish. The draw at Old Trafford last season being a great example. We had a lead, and were getting so many chances on the break to score a second and win it, only for Lukaku to try and score on his won every time the ball came to him when it needed teamwork. He was as much to blame for us dropping the points late on there as Williams was for that ridiculous handball. It remains to be seen though. Obviously playing for United and in the Champions League etc, every game is a big game, so we will soon see if he can cope with being a smaller part of a bigger thing, or if he still all out for himself. At Everton, he was the focal point of our entire style of play, everything we built was built around him. That wont be the case at United.

Overall though, we've got the deal we wanted. We've been very good at standing firm for what we want when big players have left us in the last few years, and we've done it again. Good luck to him, though I hope his record of scoring against us is as good as his record of scoring against United for us was!

Had this been the first deal of the summer for us, Id be gutted. Rooney isnt good enough to be top man in the Premier League anymore, but with the other signings we've made this summer and are still working on, having him as an experienced squad player is a great signing. Think about it, you're 1 down and need a goal or a spark from somewhere, who would you rather be bringing off the bench? Wayne Rooney? Or Enner Valencia or Arouna Kone? No brainer. The majority of our squad are good players, but they are mostly quite young, not much experience if any of playing in Europe or winning things, so having someone who knows all about that will be invaluable. If Barkley ends up staying (that whole thing has gone very quiet) it will be a great signing for him too, as Barkley has all the skills, but his attitude and knowing when and where to do things is dreadful. He could learn a lot from Rooney, as well as having him there will be motivation that he can lose his place if he's not up to standard.

We still need to sign a striker, I dont see Rooney as Lukaku's replacement, that was happening whether Lukaku stayed or went.

Im looking at all of this from just a football point of view, and not an emotional one btw. I dont like Rooney. He can win us the title, and Ill be happy but I wont thank him for it. My 18 year old self will never forgive what he did, and everything since. But then it also wont be the first time Ive supported Everton while we've got a player I hate! I despised Anichebe!

Honestly, I'd rather bring on Enner Valencia. Rooney is dead and buried as an impactful player if we are talking about a positive impact.

His experience might be of some value, though, and who knows - he might have a mini career renaissance at his boyhood club. I very much doubt it, but you never know.

Has the Giroud to Everton talk died down? I think he'd be a fine Lukaku replacement.

Valencia was poor. I used to think he was alright, but he's a different player after that injury at West Ham. He started the odd game last season and looked dead on his feet after 20 minutes.

Im hoping the coming back to us will give him a bit of motivation too, one last fling before retirement or shoving off the States. Definitely only see him here for absolute maximum of 2 years. Dont forget we've got Europe too, and our squad depth has been awful for years and has been the main reason we've never really realistically had a chance at top 4. Good enough to beat anyone on our day, but not enough quality in reserve when someone gets injured or suspended. No question Rooney's legs and impact as an explosive player have long gone, but he's still got the passing and the brain. Thats what Barkley needs to learn, and if Rooney coming can at least coax that ability out of Barkley (who right now, Im not the biggest fan of given his attitude) then it's been a good signing.

You sound so bitter

1. Jose wanted a striker who was ready to win him the title. Didn't think Lukaku was ready so signed Costa and Lukaku didn't want to be sitting on the bench so requested a transfer. Obviously he does think Lukaku is ready now.

2. The last two pl champions finished 10th and 12th the following season respectively. Hardly a great indicator of future success. And maybe Lukaku was put off by Conte telling one of his key players of last season that he was surplus to requirements by text. And there were reports of Conte being very unhappy with Chelsea's transfer window even before they were outmuscled in the Lukaku deal. They hardly seem like the most stable club at the minute.
