I know Henderson is too dull to care about but since when did sporting bodies and the press become selective moral leaders for this country? Blasphemy suspensions in Gymnastics and reputation smearing for drinking on a day off? Since when did being drunk in an England top become controversial?

There are many reasons why we haven't won anything in 50 years, allowing the parasites in the press to consistently drag us down into fake controversies is one of them.

Drinking is detrimental to physical performance in the short and long term, but he shouldn't be vilified, particularly for an isolated night. Given his stature, the miles on his legss, and his lifestyle, I don't think many expected him to age gracefully as a player. The media do seem to protect some players whilst berating others. I’m a Newcastle fan but - take Shearer as an example. He was an excellent player (no doubt there) but he could be dirty. The media (and often the ref) didn’t see it though. He needed his arms for leverage. Barton on the other hand (and for the same act) was a dirty bast..rd and needed a life lesson. Perhaps not the best comparison, but I think the media have players labelled as hero’s villains and fools and write stories accordingly.
